Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
Lavaball trap is still not playable. If it were free, like the blue one, then yes. But even at 5 mana, its not very good.

I think that that undefined would be the perfect power for the flying spaghetti monster.
Player A: "I hit you for an undefined amount of damage."
Player B: "I shock FSM."
Player A: "Does it do undefined damage?"
Player B: "No."
Player A: "Then it doesn't die. Take your damage *****!"
Player B: "How?"
I'm going to remain skeptical until I actually see one of these.
Though, I guess they needed some sort of fetch land for extended.
Um, don't be skeptical. I took the original pic and the words here have always been, "Pics please." WotC employees were standing by the over sized card waiting to see people's reactions. It's real, very real.
So the part of me that remembers Onslaught wants to start dancing. A cycle of enemy colored fetches should effectively replace the Shadowmoor/Eventide filter lands, while making enemy colored and Shard decks more viable.

I haven't changed by signature since Mirrodin Besieged spoilers started!
I, for one, am completely down with this idea. It's a cycle that's been begging to be completed forever, and it's not like there hasn't been demand for them - just look at the rampant speculation threads that start around here every time we're on the eve of a new expansion. What amazes me is for all the people that are excited to see these, there are just as many, if not more, people complaining like it's the end of the game. And the whole 'Wizards is just doing this for money' thing is just weak. Of course they're doing this for money - they're a business - earning money is kinda what they do. If you hate them for trying to make money, stop buying cards - but don't fault them for it. No one's got a gun to your head forcing you to buy cards. If you can't compete in a particular format, your life is not going to end, trust me.
I never said they wouldn't be used, just that they aren't the 25$ powerhouses people are hyping it now. I agree with the 15-20 at the start but they will go to 10-15 later
I was considering getting the various fetches needed for a GB deck. Now I can invest in Zendikar instead.
now comes the speculation of old fetchlands reprented and enemy m10 duals? you all realize that hopeful reprint/cycle completion threads will never end right?
5 mana to sweep the field, and blow up two of your opponents lands at instant speed, yeah not very good.
Except that's only when it's trap condition is met, and if Lavaball Trap ever did catch on, which it probably won't, smart players will lay their fetchland and bust it during their opponent's turn, if they have 5 mana open and it looks like they are fingering a Lavaball Trap.
But Lavaball Trap still sucks.
As for new fetches, at least people will stop making threads about whether or not they'll see print, 'cause now they have. I'd dare say they are more important for Extended than Standard, because of Shocklands, but they definitely add a lot of valur to Zendikar.

RW control could like it. Even if your opponent sees it, it makes path a simple "exile target creature".

I would have to agree with you on the higher value for extended cuz this keeps archetypes that were going to die alive * looking at you ZOO*. But this will not stop me from using at least 4 in my standard BGW once zendikar is release.

with the nice little point out that is represented below there is the possiblity that there is more than just speculation?
I don't know if anyone else noticed this but Arid Mesa is #211. There are 249 cards in the set 20 are basic lands. 229-211 is 18. We only know of supposedly (3) 5 cards land cycles, the fetchlands, the Valakut cycle, and the Teeterin Peeks cycle. So apparently there's 1 more cycle if not atleast 3 other non-basic lands.
No, since you shouldn't keep 5 mana open for that small chance he plays a fetch and uses it
This sweeper is too expensive, too bad
Keep 5 mana open + Magma Phoenix.
Keep 5 mana open + Counterspells.
U/R Draw-go style control is better than ever with this new more robust sweeper. It has one of the best finishers in the game in Bogardan Hellkite. It has Jace, Lightning Bolt, Volcanic Fallout. I think it could work out.

Oh joy! The end of a cycle of rare duals that aren't exactly duals and only reach their peak of effectiveness in a format where they can fetch OTHER rare duals!
At least they can cross this off their list now.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.

Except Magma Phoenix really isn't very good. If I were worried about a Lavaball Trap, I'd be so excited that they dropped a Phoenix.
I'm amazed that these are finally being printed. I guess they figured that they HAD to be done at some point - and the interaction with Landfall and who-knows-what-else is too good to pass up. Auto-include in my Cube
By the way, the art for the Arid Mesa is gorgeous.
I dont know if I must be happy about fetchland in T2 or terribly sad about how my wallet is going to hurt after Zendikar... Oh well still waiting for some dual land in Worldwake
I think you're overreacting. This will hardly change Extended, which used fetches willy-nilly because they found Shocklands anyway.
That's exactly my point. I was really excited about fetches leaving so that Extended can try some new venues of deck construction instead of "I like these three colors, so I'm going to play them. Oh yeah, I should just splash the other two colors anyways" model that we've been seeing.
If they would have printed these in the NEXT block, I wouldn't be nearly as mad about them.
C'mon, Wizards. Give us a chance to MISS the fetches before making them again. One year in extended without them I thought would have been nice.
And about the Rock, it's always been a running joke that Wizards only wants the rock to be the best deck in extended. Now there's a GB fetch. Meaning, more rock cards.
. Its nice but without allied color support, its a spit at the unwritten rule of "allied > enemy".
I don't see this as a rule at all, W/R was a very powerful combination at the very beginnings of magic- definitely as powerful as W/U and certainly more powerful than R/G or B/R. Allied pairings are just more common is all, and a historically easier fix.
With all the Zendikar limited I plan on playing, I guess I'm eating Ramen for the next year.
I'll +1 on the ramen (or other cheap eats). Fetches are awesome, but didn't someone from wotc mention that they are moving away from lands dealing you damage? Fetches would contradict that statement.
