-'Golden Lotus' is 'Sunpetal Grove'...still almost surely a multicolor land, IMO.
If that's true, then the promise of having 2 types of mana in turn 1 is still valid.
Maybe:
Sunpetal Grove
Mythic Rare
When Sunpetal Grove comes in to the battlefield, choose two colors.
Tap: Add X or Y to your mana pool.
And still, we have a lot of overpwered cards in Standard.
For exemple Path to Exile. Costs W and removes a creature from the game. Bolt deals only 3 dmg. I know, on a burn deck, 3 dmg for R is too powerfull, but think about it.
you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.
And I'm still in "I'll believe it when I hold it in my own two hands" mode. Reason of course says this info is legit, but I'm still flabbergasted.
I guess this is WotC's way of saying, "We cut the NUMBER of combat tricks you can pull with the new M2010 rules, so we're making up for it by increasing the POWER of them."
So, Magma Spray or Lightning Bolt? It doesn't make sense for them to reprint bolts. Incinerate is far more balanced. I'm reserving judgment despite the ridiculous amount of evidence people are throwing in my face. I just can't believe bolt will come back. But if it does I'm glad I have my "coolguy unlimited/beta" playset!
I don't think so... it's indeed powerful and maybe 1st pick material (sometimes), but not that broken. I could see it at common rarity, as it was once printed. Pauper players would be really happy as well.
In limited, bolt is only a little better than Incinerate.
The one mana makes a much bigger difference in constructed than limited, IMO. (Not like you T1 burn someone in limited)

Alright, with red getting Lightning Bolt and black getting Duress, I'm not going to be satisfied with anything less than blue getting Counterspell and a decent 3-mana card draw spell...
...and if they have the NERVE to deny this by claiming that countermagic is too annoying; all I can say is they're giving two other colors the closest equivalents to one-mana countermagic in terms of power, annoyance and ability to remove threats.

Oh yea and Bolt is not in any way overpowered. Without Bolt, I think that Red is underpowered, flavor-wise. A red mage should go totally havoc among his enemies. Without really good burn spells, he needs cheap efficient beatsticks. There are almost none in today's T2. RDW should be a viable archetype, but it isn't, because red does not have the best beatsticks and burn around, which it should.
How is it that this sort of comment goes completely under the radar, yet the next paragraph will probably muster pages upon pages of blue-haters with torches and pitchforks?

MUC should be a viable archetype, but it isn't, because blue does not have the best countermagic and card draw around, which it should.
Feel free to crucify me. It's not like you've never done it before...
People hiss and grunt at Mark Rosewater for the state of the game. Few realize, though, that it is Aaron Forsythe who is directly responsible of the current state of affairs due to negligence as head of Magic R&D and a completely skewed view of the game as a whole.
So next time you want to make an avvy with Rosewater pissing on something, take a deep breath and consider pasting Forsythe's face there instead...
well i am shocked to say the least that WOTC has reprinted lightning bolt. This card was though to be way toooooo powerfull ever to be reprinted again. I hope this turns out to be true and it is not arc lightning or something similiar.
I was really hoping that there was some way it could be a translation error....but nope, its right there in english *sigh*
For constructed decks I only play casual, and there is no reason I couldn't play the lightning bolts that I already own, but since they stopped printing them I've felt kind of honour bound not to use them. Even though I adore fast red assault decks, I've not felt too bad about it.
The thing about lightning bolt is that it is so good that any deck that can generate red mana tended to play them. That creates two problems: one it is boring, and two it makes any creature with toughness three or less weaker. In theory you can balance out creature costing, at the risk of making the game stupidly quick, but not so much with the boring factor. I really don't like it when they print one unequivocally best card in a category, as it makes deck design less interesting, and play more repetitive.
So I'm accepting that this is real, but still hoping that somehow it isn't.
Is there anyway that this art is for some promo for judges, possibly in the next from the vault(even though it does not belong), or even another duals deck we have not heard about. I just cant see this card in extended again.
If Bolt's presence in Standard is offset by the removal of Incinerate, I certainly can't see red becoming too powerful. The fact that you can play LB on turn 1 is basically irrelevant, since in RDW, you would rather play a creature turn 1 anyways to apply pressure; and if you're on the draw, any creature your opponent could have dropped on turn 1 would die to Shock just as easily as Lightning Bolt.
The consequences of LB in Extended may be more pronounced; but it's not like there aren't a ton of cards in Extended that couldn't totally smack down RDW if it became too prominent.

Let's keep this up. Lightning Bolt, Silence, Duress... keep those blue mages down. I wouldn't be happier with blue gets totally shafted. Just give green something totally saucy.
I still don't understand why people think lightning bolt is too strong. Firstly, RDW has gone under since Shards of Alara was first released. And secondly, Incinerate always felt a little overcosted; the anti-regeneration clause was probably relevant 1% of the times it was used.
Secondly, LB will 90% of the time just be an instant speed Lava Spike. In today's standard, If you want spot removal for creatures, it would more than likely be Path to Exile most of the time- Due to Persist and most of the good creatures in standard have 4+ toughness.
Lash Out > than Incinerate- especially if your thinking of red for removal, and No one uses EITHER. seriously, open up a couple of your decks that have red and pull out an Incinerate. None? I thought so.
As for Extended, I could see LB knocking a couple blocks off- It will more than likely be removal against Zoo and the other light creatures that float around there, I really doubt it will warp the format.(considering Extended is so broken anyway that t1 wins are possible in dozens of ways, would a warp in format be that bad?) then again, I dont play Extended.
Alright, with red getting Lightning Bolt and black getting Duress, I'm not going to be satisfied with anything less than blue getting Counterspell and a decent 3-mana card draw spell...
I agree with you on the Three mana draw spell. That's supposed to be blue. regardless, counterspells were supposed to be use strategically against potential serious threats, and not against any spell that would progress the opponents gameplay. Its annoying. Period. Probably more than t1 Dark Ritual into Mind Twist. (at least you can topdeck and play, permission does the opposite) If anything, thereshould only be three functional counterspells in standard at a time. (Right now, Negate, Remove Soul, Cryptic and probably Flashfreeze would/should have been enough.) The shaft will be removed from Blue's ass as soon as Lorwyn rotates. Counter/Control still = top decks in standard, so not much complaining for blue would be answered. (Well, except that they need to show that blue is capable of more than countering, and in a competitive sense- Bounce, Tapping out, Mill, etc...)
It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.
Absolutely. If they're reprinting Lightning Bolt, they have no reason to not reprint Counterspell. Maybe in Zendikar and not M10, but if standard can tolerate Lightning Bolt, then Counterspell is 100% justifiable.

I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
I honestly have been looking for Red to get some major boosting (since Alara block only put out a few really good cards for Red compared to the good cards for each of the other sets and put out a lot of cards that hosed Red). I run Mono-Red Burn in Extended, so I'm really excited about the Ball Lightnings and the Lightning Bolts.
I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong here, that the artists are given the card names to design cards of before they start making up the art, because the artists are commissioned to do certain cards.
Also, sad that Spark Elemental will probably be going away in Standard, but Lightning Bolts make a really nice replacement. Perhaps the core set will drag us a little farther away from combat and closer to actual direct casting?
