I dunno, I dont think it's damnation because Damnation doesnt leave any creatures. I guess that could be the player but with so few cards actually depicting the player I kind of doubt it.
The first art is quite obviously some sort of protection spell, from the shield-like aura to unscathed green beneath the victim's feet. That person is the focus of the image, so try to imagine what it would look like cropped to fit onto a card. A board sweeper wouldn't have a creature under a clearly protective aura as the artwork's point of focus, and I imagine the art would show a larger scale of destruction than the impact area of a single meteor as shown here (think: the caster protects him/herself from a large red damage spell).

So Im super late to the party here, but I really like the idea of that first art being Cataclysm, theres the creature (the dude standing there), the land (the tiny patch left), the enchantment (the shimmering white shield thing), and... maybe the cloak is an artifact? With the rest of the world all destroyed.
As for the second art, I dunno, doesnt really give the effect of Sphere of Reason to me. I say thats the new card, that has something to do with stopping time or something, it looks too much like water to me. So if it is water then those foot prints would have to be done during a time stop kinda deal. But with the "spell" going off after the footprints Im not sure.
You're trying WAY too hard to make these cards something they're not. Sphere of Reason HAS a ton of water in it. What card are you looking at??
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
They seem like some runic symbols that would suggest that this spell is some kind of destruction ritual. Also, notice the objects going in circle in that hole. It looks like a tornado-like destruction spell to me O_o Though i might be wrong, it's a theory.
Okay.
I took a look at this on two occasions: A couple days ago, and just now.
I still don't see them.
If I can miss them at this resolution, who would see anything at card size, and thus, in what sense are they part of the art?

I think I found what he's talking about. They're REALLY TINY and you're right, not noticeable at card size. Even if they were, they're shoved off into the corner and not part of the art's focus AT ALL.

A) Hes negating the water from coming ashore
B) He is canceling the effect of a blue spell
C) He is shapeshifting the land, he is drawing the water up in an attempt to flood while shielding himself, or he is pushing the water away, the stones look mighty smooth to me.

One of these pieces of art is featured on a brand-new card in Magic 2010. The other is a new illustration of a reprinted card from Magic's past. Which is which? Good question!
We already got the NEW spell which was the white spell Indestructibility. One is for a blue spell thats a reprint of an OLD spell.
It's not necessarily a blue spell. But it probably is, given the art.
It's definitely not a creature. It doesn't look like a counterspell to me, but it doesn't match any of the other possible reprints. But it fits a counterspell better than the other options, unless there's an unrevealed green card that it would fit on, which is unlikely.
So it's probably Negate or Cancel. The other possibility is Flashfreeze... if the art is meant to depict the wave freezing in place. It doesn't look like it is, but...

well we already have convincing mirage's art i think. its that merfolk parting the forest to reveal an island.
with the whole footprints thing, Time Warp does make sense.

It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.
Nope. Convincing Mirage is definitely the art with the forest and the merfolk emerging from behind it as if it's an image on curtain. Even if that's not the case, there's certainly nothing illusory about this art.
Yeah, cause there's a load of countering going on there. /sarcasm
I swaer blue mages are tarded' sometimes. Mirage might be it though.
I'm not a U mage FYI, I am more a mage at heart. Its merely my OPINION on art.

Really? Huh. I haven't seen that art, oh well. I will be right back.
Yes, ignore the fact that I said it didn't look like a counterspell to me, and call me a tard.
What exactly does it fit better?
It doesn't look like Convincing Mirage - I would assume that card art would give some indication that it's overlaid some other kind of land. That looks like a wave about to hit a beach - no indication that there's any illusion going on. And someone said that there's a more likely candidate for that card.
It definitely doesn't fit any creatures. It doesn't match any of the non-blue reprints.
It's definitely not Divination - what would a giant wave and forcefield have to do with predicting the future, seriously?
I wouldn't put that art on a counterspell, personally, but it's the only thing that remotely fits.

Target player takes an extra turn after this one. Just when you thought you’d survived the first wave.

So is the flavor text the last piece to this puzzle? It seems we have a winner!
Yup! That must be it.
Although I find the flavor of that confusing. It looks like the guy about to get hit by the wave is casting the spell, of course.
But the flavor text suggests that he's making the wave, while the art suggest he's using magic to freeze time in order to react to it, not so he can make a second wave. Something about the combination seems off to me...
But oh well. I thought it needed new art (the old art isn't that evocative, I think) but this seems a little strange for it.
The flavor text to me is like being said to the opponent player. As for the art, he's shielding himself from the wave but there seems to be another one coming.
@Masked_Legend you get a cookie for your great detective skills! nice catch on that!

Time Warp seems like a decent candidate.
My guess would be Negate, but even that's kind of a stretch.
Hes not flying though, thats the problem

Negate
