Got a promotional e-mail from one of my local tourney organizers, asking people to preorder boxes of ARB, and they had images of 5 cards which will be made into playmats.
Mistvein Borderpost by Pete Venters
Fieldmist Borderpost by Michael Bruinsma
Wildfield Borderpost by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai
Firewild Borderpost by Jean Sebastien Rossbach
And finally Veinfire Borderpost by Ralph Horsley
Looks like some sort of dual color artifact cycle, possibly manafixing.
I like how the border posts get simpler the farther you are away from esper. for example, the mistvein one is very intricate, laced with etherium and infused with dredgescape. while the wildfield borderpost is just a lump of stone
Seems pretty clear these are allied. Especially with the info we have so far.
Can these be enchantments? Is that a stretch?
Yes, they most likely are, but if they are allied artifacts, that does make Firewild Borderpost an RG artifact, which is weird, but fine. I just thought the branching out of themes/mechanics would keep one foot in a color of origin.
They could be enchantments, but they do evoke the obelisks...
I honestly hope, and think it is within reason, that these can possibly be lands. They have a very land-ish feal to them. If not lands, im pretty sure they will be artifacts, and will probly be simmilar to the Guild Signets.
Please do not flame me for thinking they can be land. I do understand the whole land are colorless blah blah blah. I also belive that WotC can be tricky, so A.) Gold could have been refering to the color of the card not the entire "rule" behind gold cards, as a way to get hype going... which if true worked very effectivly... and 2.) They could find a way to make land colored... or like i said if not they are more than likely artifacts.
it probably won't be something as simple as mana-fixing considering the obelisks. although, they could just be Obelisks with wedge colors for example:

Current post- Grand Prix KC Modern Postmortem (7/7/13)
These definitely look like mana fixers, probably tapping for mana as opposed to fetching lands...
A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
Mistvein = U/B
Fieldmist = W/U
Wildfield = G/W
Firewild = R/G
Veinfire = B/R
...not that it isn't clear from the art anyway
edit: right, shards work too
Mistvein Borderpost - Esper-Grixis
Fieldmist Borderpost - Esper-Bant
Wildfield Borderpost - Bant-Naya
Firewild Borderpost - Naya-Jund
Veinfire Bolderpost - Jund -Grixis
well another strong hint on how shards would ally each other in the new alara..
ChibiSwan! YOU ROCK!
...........Shin on the textless Cryptic Command
Not that "Esper" exists in Alara, but if they produce wedge colors or 4 color, they'd still have W,U, and/or B in them.

Mistvein = mist + vein
Veinfire = vein + fire
Firewild = fire + wild
Wildfield = wild + field
Fieldmist = field + mist
From this, and if darkhiroki is correct, we can assume that:
Mist = Esper
Vein = Grixis
Field = Bant
Fire = Jund
Wild = Naya
And so:
Mistvein = Esper-Grixis
Fieldmist = Esper-Bant
Wildfield = Bant-Naya
Firewild = Naya-Jund
Veinfire = Jund -Grixis
Thanks to PotN at Solar Flare Studios for the awesome sig!
If colored artifacts are spreading beyond Esper, I think that more or less conclusively proves that the other "shard mechanics" are doing so as well.

Well, the card has to be multicolored somehow, so probably not this

Not functional when they cost colored mana.

Mistvein: WUR
then again, they have to be multicolored.
in anycase, the mistvein one has outstanding art
