Well, they push 5CC even more. So much rewards from playing multicolor! And so much hate for monocolors...
Hope they create more uncommon nonbasics... CON nonbasics is pretty meh to me... But, seeing ARB like this, Unstable Frontier will see more play post-rotation.
...Damn. I forgot that Alara will still be in Standard next year.
Pay 1 life: target creture gets +3/+3 and Flying until end of turn.
"Elspeth begged The Forever Serpent for mercy, and in turn received his cruelty."
sounds like enough of a plea to me
sorry but that needs some other restriction, you must have meant that to be once per turn, because otherwise you just broke U/W aggro or U/W anything, or Bant.
Anyways, sounds like a fun set, but I hope that there's lots of U/W ads those are my favorite colors! and a planeswalker or two.
"Lack of One Drops" is not a serious design flaw in an expansion set. Many from the older larger "small" expansions did not have one for every color, or didn't have one for every color at common. (Planar Chaos, Future Sight, Dissension, Fifth Dawn, Darksteel, etc.) With all the CIPT mana fixing in the block, you often won't have anything to do on first turn anyway. Most 1/1s are borderline irrelevant in limited, and constructed has the other legal sets to fall back on. (Plus, I'm pretty sure they are dailing back the aggro speed compared to Lor/Sha)
While I almost expect a 1-cost artifact mana fixer, this is not a significant hole that they'd have to dredge up hybrid just to fix, especially when it was already said this block won't use hybrid.
Its probably an all multicolor set; MaRo clearly was leaving a hint.
Regarding the one drops, I'm actually more worried about two drops... how many possible 2 drops could there be for each color combination? Alara has used a lot of the good designs Tidehollow Strix, Goblin Deathraiders, Agony Warp.
One one side, I'm excited about seeing new gold cards.
On the other hand, I'm worried about poorly designed cards that are just forced to be gold.

So basically if I attack with any creature and you don't block, I can pay 6-7 life to do instanteous lethal damage with a 20+ boost? AND Flying for easy evasion?
This pretty much puts Hatred to shame, and it is completely BROKEN. This thing would result in easy turn 3 kills in Type 2. If anything, that card needs some kind of mana cost, or a "once per turn" restriction.
They can make gold 1 CC cards. They just have to state in the card's text box what color it is and make it gold bordered. Like Transguild Courier, or the opposite of Ghostfire.
Goats! Jacob van Lunen was right. If I had to choose between killing people with goats and eating ice cream, I'd definately pick killing people with goats.
Every time someone says "The opposite of Ghostfire" I end up drifting off into a reverie in which I contemplate possibilities such as corporeal water. My brain is weird.
If they really use this trick to get gold 1 drops, we're going to need a better name for it.
This won't in itself have too much impact on SCA drafts, other than eliminating all the fringe archetypes like mono-red or WB exalted. But AAA drafts will be interesting.
If we're mostly or entirely allied-pair, drafting the set could be very similar to drafting a core set, with the five pairs acting a lot like the five colors. The difference is that the equivalent of multi-color is much more awkward.
Ardent Plea, hmm. How about,
"Whenever you are attacked by more than one creature, untap target non-artifact attacking creature and gain control of it until end of turn. Its owner gains life equal to its power." Only minds frozen by etherium injections could resist Elspeth's call for unity.

I'm going to call them "Goldies." MUAHAHAHAHA
No, but seriously if they use a gimick like that for an excuse to make a monocolored spell cost a multicolor spell I think I'm going to call them....
For those talking about the numbering being different for ARB...go look at the numbers on the bottoms of the preview cards of M10 given to us by Aaron Forsythe. Should give you a clue that the numbering system stays. No mono-colored cards in this set.

IT IS Elspeth. I have to say i wasn't expecting her to be having that kind of hairstyle under the hood. She now really looks like a Serra-derivative for me.
I think she actually looks like the Princess Leia... And is that a lightsaber?
On Topic, this should be real fun in limited : everyone will be at the same level, caught with a lot of multicolor stuff and things will be really unexpected. Let's just hope for a little more fixing in the last set as the games could turn to "who draws the good lands wins".
Hm. So, unless we get an oddball colorless artifact to fit the bill, this means there are no 1cc cards in the entire set. Unless of course they decided to splash in a little bit of Hybrid, but we're just barely on the heels of a hybrid set so that seems unlikely.
Really giving Ranger of Eos a run for his money heh.
The funny thing is, I see a group of riddles inside the text when looking at the card.
First the ability: "What?! I should say not! Feels like this enchantment could sac to either Counterspell something or remove something.
Ironically because of the second part of the clue..... I feel that we will have the first enchantment with persist for enchantments, or the creature that is destroyed/Countered comes into play on your side. I'm going to assume the lesser because it's uncommon so.......

they almost HAVE to put in 5 color lands either at common or uncommon just to manage something this insane. Limited would suffer terribly from that thought alone. and limited is where most people even play.drafts are the only way to gather lots of cards easily. (albiet expensive) i can imagine how brokenly stupid (no, not Broken as in Super Overpowered, but broken as in omg wtf were they thinking?!) limited events will be without proper fixing.

We'll need better fixing, but don't go crazy. These aren't all 5-color spells, in fact I'd guess the majority will still be 2 colors, much like the preview card.
By pack 3 you have a pretty good idea what colors you are in, even if it's just one shard, that leaves you plenty of options.
Drafting may be more difficult than Ravnica block. Difficult in a good way though. It is going to interesting to see how this pans out.
Looks like all of my mono-colored decks are going to miss out on this set. Don't know whether to rejoice or shed a few tears. Well, you win some & you lose some, right?
I am surprised, yet not surprised. It seems Magics R&D keep trying to trump itself. They keep, somewhat, reinventing the wheel. Gets the gears moving, wondering what can be next?

There was a time in Magic when gold cards where something special...that specialness is gone imo. Gold is common now.
While i like gold cards, i think there are to much over the last years.
that time was also when cards like armageddon, winter orb, counterspell were the norm. although i would prefer those days too, i cant complain about good gold cards.
