I don't think I outright said it wouldn't happen, but I did agree the one drop issue would have made it unlikely. Now I see that they must have found a way.
Somebody said it was confirmed that there's no hybrid in this block? The most likely option, but maybe not. Also, this means no mono green or red one drop artifacts are possible, right?
Anyway perhaps we will have:
-Alternative casting costs (but must be done in a multicolor way)
-Colorless one drop mana producing artifact creatures (like myr)
-Transguild Couriers that CIP chose a color(s). (I can't see a one drop being all colors)
Now that we know there will be so many gold cards, I really think they will print wedge cards. If the hook is "all gold" they should have all combinations (maybe even 4 color).
All cards are either mono-colored or multicolored. Complaining that multi-color is a bad idea is like complaining that even numbers are bad. WoTC is bound to print monocolored or multicolored cards at some time in time, simply because they have to make cards. If you don't like multicolor for some reason, look on the bright side: next block is more likely to be mono colored.
I think multicolor 100% is a good way to further expand on domain and the shards. It fits well. Lets hope the cards are good.
I don't think casual crowds are shafted. Casual decks tend to not pack $$$ lands but 2 colors is perfectly fine. As long as a good chunk of cards are 2 colors, casual crowds should have lots to ogle at. 3 colors isn't that much of a stretch either. We got some good color fixing in the block via not just lands.

"Wizards could put $100 bills in packs and people would complain about how they were folded." - from Dr Jeebus's Sig
I'm certainly looking forward to the insanely powerful vanilla creatures we're likely to get. This block's had serveral per set and all the multicolored ones so far have been off the charts powerful without looking like power creep since there's no established curve for 3+ color vanillas.
I'm certainly happy to see a massively multicolored set, too. I was one of the people that was disappointed that Wizards didn't go 100% hybrid for the whole Shadowmoor block. Sometimes, pushing the envelope can be fun.
This does very likely mean that we'll see lands, though. With this level of multicolor, we'll probably need another 4+ five colored lands.
As for the 1 drops, I haven't really seen much happen before turn 3 many games and I draft every week. With the raw power of multicolor in this block, you're probably going 3+ colors so there's a decent chance you couldn't cast your 1 drop the first turn even if you had one in your hand.
One thing people might be missing, too, is the possiblity of colorless cards that aren't artifacts. I don't mean weird ♥♥♥♥ like ghostfire. Afterall, they almost did it in Fifth Dawn before the slivers got cut from the set. Something like this would be cool:
Scion of the Maelstrom 4
Creature - Avatar
~ gets +1/+1 as long as you control a plains.
~ gets +1/+1 as long as you control an island.
~ gets +1/+1 as long as you control a swamp.
~ gets +1/+1 as long as you control a mountain.
~ gets +1/+1 as long as you control a forest.
1/1
Afterall, we know from artifacts and lands that colorless cards come after colored ones. It's always been entirely possible even though it's never been done before. You could even have 1 drops, although they probably wouldn't be something you'd be dying to drop on the first turn.
As a drafter who often does triple smallset drafts, I can't think of a worse scenario. Seriously, drafting ARB/ARB/ARB will be a complete waste of time. Not happy with this news at all.
Somebody said it was confirmed that there's no hybrid in this block? The most likely option, but maybe not. Also, this means no mono green or red one drop artifacts are possible, right?.
Yes, there is no hybrid to separate it from Shadowmoor.
No one drops, unless they do something wacky with artifacts...
The next block is not going to be multicolor.
WoTC cools it on the multis after pushing them for several sets. (See post RAV)
To the above poster, you haven't even seen the set. You don't know what kind of fixing is available. Conflux had plenty, this set will likely as well.
Not to mention that with the smaller set sizes, triple small set drafting is not intended to be done ever.

I expect some multicoloured stuff in the next block, as WotC likes consecutive blocks to have synergies with each other (can't remember the quote, but they thought Ons-Mir was a bad Standard format due to the top decks either having 45+ ONS block cards or 45+ MIR block cards, as there was so little cross-block synergy).
Triple small set drafting is encouraged at least on MTGO for the first two weeks - it's usually silly, unbalanced and fun for 3-4 drafts then not fun any more.

The card itself is actually far too similar to a Conflux card to actually see print. I just made that one quickly as an example of what I meant by a colorless card that's not an artifact.
Oh no, Magic is going to die just like it did when 6th edition, Urza's block, Mercadian block, Legions, Kamigawa block, Mirrodin block... Did I miss anything?

By the way, I laugh at the people saying that Shadowmoor was a multicoloured block. If anything, hybrid ENCOURAGES monocolour. The last TRUE multicoloured block was Ravnica.
All of this talk reminds me of when we found out that ALA would be 3-colored. "oh no's! who's playing more than 2 colors other than 5CC? Looks like Fae will rules the roost for another year because there simply cannot be anything good to come out of 3 colored cards!"
Really people, haven't we learned by now that WOTC knows enough about what they are doing that they'd give us some work arounds and tricks to make an all multi-color set usable?
Not sure what the implications are really. Otherwise, draft is gonna be awkward. Nice idea on the one dropper there. I'd like to make it competition for the gouger's position, though. Like 1br for a 4/4 you may pay 1r to make it a 2/2 with haste. (neg counters might not be in the set, but yeah)
I am going to reiterate on my feelings on this discovery. I believe that I was unclear.
Having an all multicolored set isn't inherently bad. I just think that having the "theme" of "multicolored" beat over our heads like a frozen salami bores me of the "theme". Let's not pretend the "hybrid" theme and the "multicolored" theme result in about the same thing. I'm just wishing and praying for a theme that does not feature creature types or COLOR for a few sets.
Oh, and on what Ardent Plea might do I'm hoping for a Triggered effect over an activated effect.
I'm ok with this, as long as the next block has very few, or even no multi-colored cards
I really like stuff like Teferi, Cryptic Command, Ball Lightning, Nantuko Husk, etc. that are not only monocolored but capture the essence of the color the represent (blue = control and draw if u can, red = burn baby burn, black = sacrifice stuff to win, and so on for the other colors). The costs of mono cards doesn't need to be something extreme like WWWWW or w/e, just cards that perfectly represent their color
I think "all multi-color" is a trick statement. They'll probably use the Kird Ape and/or Kedrekt Parasite mechanic to make "gold" one-drops and others.
Well, nothing much left to discuss about the fact that this is an all-multicolor set... I'm much more intrigued about the fact that it's very likely there are no non-artifact cards with CMC < 2 on the set.
That fact has some important implications in limited and even constructed; for one, the format lends little to no aid to fast aggro decks unless it's filled with powerful 2 and 3-drops, and those on two or more colors. Aggro decks will have to make do with what the current environment offers, at least as far as openings go.
Second, this will bring a strong incentive towards a slower metagame; with almost any possible bomb card costing at least two mana in different colors, there is a strong incentive to play comes-into-play-tapped lands on turn one, and possibly turn two as well. Personally, I hope ARB places a strong focus on 2cc spells so that the rift doesn't grow unmanageable. Right now the block metagame has little in the way of answers to fast aggro, and I wouldn't want the situation to grow any worse.
I think the limited format is well equipped to handle an all-multicolor set, so no worries there. As for constructed, anybody who's somebody is running at least two colors right now, so it's very much guaranteed to be treats for everyone.
Just one word of advice: if you don't have at least a reasonable collection of standard-legal mana fixers, I'd advise you to get them ASAP; their price is about to skyrocket!

People hiss and grunt at Mark Rosewater for the state of the game. Few realize, though, that it is Aaron Forsythe who is directly responsible of the current state of affairs due to negligence as head of Magic R&D and a completely skewed view of the game as a whole.
So next time you want to make an avvy with Rosewater pissing on something, take a deep breath and consider pasting Forsythe's face there instead...
I don't know how much this information will help, but here goes:
Some background first. I am the creator of The Magic Sock podcast (www.TheMagicSock.com) and I have a working relationship with the PR firm that promotes products from Wizards of the Coast. Last Thursday I received a package in the mail from the PR company. The package contained an Ultra-Pro Deck Box, 10 "gold" chocolate coins and a note. I took a snapshot of the box and the coins and then a close up of the note.
After seeing the picture of Ardent plea, I'm wondering if the enchantment card has something to do with 10 counters. Maybe remove a counter and there's some sort of an effect?
The funny thing is that my son wanted to eat the chocolate coins, but I had him hold off (giving him other candy instead) as I thought the number of coins was somehow important--but that's just my guess. I'm still confused. Maybe it has nothing to do with counters, but that's my best guess.
Of course, the gold coins might have only been a way of letting us all know that the set is all gold and has nothing to do with the Ardent Plea....
Crazy Alternative Ideas:
Each ONE of those coins is like a Gold ONE-Drop? Making, 10 Gold ONE-drops for ARB? Conflux had only 18 colored One-drops, + 1 artifact One-drop(Except that those look like 50-cent pieces, crap!)
Possibly a Gold mana symbol that must use colored mana, or mana from only basic lands?
The Gold Coin symbols (blings?) would allow 5-color 1-4cc possibilities, that also reinforces the basic-landedness they've pushed with conflux.
(Except that it might confuse the idea of what gold is supposed to convey.)
These seem a bit iffy, but I just wanted to throw them out there.
Not sure what the implications are really. Otherwise, draft is gonna be awkward.
For draft, assuming the standard ALA-CON-ARB format the third set brings, by the time you hit the third pack you should be basically locked into your colors. Since ALA and CON push multicolor (specifically three color and more decks), ARB should be little complication to layer on: you have your colors.
With all the multicolored goodness one can safely assume that great color fixing will continue to be present: Armillary Sphere, Rupture Spire, CIP tapped lands, and even Ancient Ziggurat are all decent options to color fix. Ultimately, Sealed would be where I feel the biggest problems may arise (open a completely out-of-your-best-colors bomb) but, with the switch to booster packs instead of tournament packs, there will be enough variance and opportunity to off-set it... or so the theory would seem to go. Obviously, it's a little early to make broad assumptions on much.
One-drops are important because most draft theory looks at putting pressure on an opponent early and often. Evasion and card draw make up the rest of the best decks: this is why you see Esper being the "deck to draft" by the pros: you get it all in an allied set of colors.
To put one-drops in ARB it may take some work. While artifacts may be the way to go, five to six one-drop artifacts would seem awkward and especially out-of-character for Naya and Jund. Could this be the place triple-hybrid comes to life? We've seen it in the FCC forums. We've dreamed it up ourselves.
Consider some of the following:
Drafted Civilian (W/U/G)
Creature - Human Soldier
Exalted They have the will to fight but lack the disciple to stay in formation.
0/1
Hungry Worm (B/R/G)
Creature - Worm
Devour 1 Even the bottom of the food chain in Jund can rise to the top elsewhere.
1/1
Lurking Gorgoyle (W/U/B)
Artifact Creature - Gargoyle
Flying They still stand perched, waiting their master's return.
1/1
Restless Goblin (B/U/R)
Creature - Goblin Zombie
Unearth B Even the lowliest of forms can sustain the will to live.
1/1
Nursing Gargantuan (W/R/G)
Creature - Beast 1G: Target creature with power five or greater gets +1/+1 until end of turn. The protection of their young can drive a gargantuan to even greater strength.
1/1
Are these great options? (Protip: No.) Some better than others (and I'm sure one is broken). I believe Rosewater would like to see hybrid be as much as part of the tricks in Design's bag as multicolor is: ARB would be a great start to introducing it. (If he's actually said this does anyone have the quote? I may just be hallucinating.)
All said: if they want to slow the environment down, keeping one-drops out of the third set would help do this.
Yes. A thousand times yes. They lured me in with Ivory Tower and Zuran Orb, and I kept telling myself "I can quit whenever I want...just look at that untapped disk". That was ten years ago man.....
This might have already been said, but the set is more of a "no mono-color" set than an all "multi-color" set. The card numbers from Conflux go multi-color, then artifacts, then lands. So we're getting artifacts.
I think the set could also be like half multi-color, half colorless too. There was some talk about the 6th land type nonsense for awhile, so maybe that was a hint that we're getting a lot of colorless stuff. There's already a nice artifact sub-theme from the last 2 sets.
I think "all multi-color" is a trick statement. They'll probably use the Kird Ape and/or Kedrekt Parasite mechanic to make "gold" one-drops and others.
Please pay attention.
The card number is 1.
That means there are no White, Blue, Black, Red, or Green cards in this set.
Only gold.

I think that the coins simply say "Nothing but gold".
My idea for a gold mana symbol would be a symbol that has to be paid with different colors of mana. So, if we mark it "O" (since G is taken and O resembles a coin), a card costing OO could be paid for by any two mana of different colors, OOO with three, and OOOO with four different mana. O by itself would be almost equivalent to 1, and OOOOO would be the same as WUBRG, so they would only occur in groups of 2-4.
I had similar idea for Q-speculations in Shadowmoor, except there I was considering a symbol that can be paid by mana of any color, but all such symbols in cost must be paid with the same color.
