Alara Reborn might have mono-color activated cards, mainly cycling. If they bring back older stuff we could have Forecast and Channel.
I for one think that the 'Gold Set' can't pass the chance of doing split cards, so probably the split cards would fill the 1 CC spells as hybrid is very unlikely to appear so soon.
Ghostfire-like spells are an option but I think they would break the feel of the set. There are subtler ways of doing these mono cards.
I don't know how much this information will help, but here goes:
Some background first. I am the creator of The Magic Sock podcast (www.TheMagicSock.com) and I have a working relationship with the PR firm that promotes products from Wizards of the Coast. Last Thursday I received a package in the mail from the PR company. The package contained an Ultra-Pro Deck Box, 10 "gold" chocolate coins and a note. I took a snapshot of the box and the coins and then a close up of the note.
After seeing the picture of Ardent plea, I'm wondering if the enchantment card has something to do with 10 counters. Maybe remove a counter and there's some sort of an effect?
The funny thing is that my son wanted to eat the chocolate coins, but I had him hold off (giving him other candy instead) as I thought the number of coins was somehow important--but that's just my guess. I'm still confused. Maybe it has nothing to do with counters, but that's my best guess.
Of course, the gold coins might have only been a way of letting us all know that the set is all gold and has nothing to do with the Ardent Plea....
Oh, I'm so excited!!
And I was actually right about an upcoming set theme (or gimmick or whatever you want to call it)!!!
I love gold cards and I'm really excited to see what an entire block of gold cards will be.
A set full of multicolored cards? I dont think it is really a good idea, some people, including me, are tired of multicolored cards so a set full of them doesnt excite us... I hope there will be interesting cards than actually help my alara decks, and not crappy ones like conflux.
You can't please everyone. I'm stoked! Maybe I will finally get enough enemy-colored commons to fill out my mimic decks
Is it just me or does the background appear to be Esper? It may very well be Elspeth in the picture, but the background appears to be full of metal objects which reminds me of Esper.

No it's Bant, you can see the Bantian Castle burning in the very back.
Okay. I'm sure none of you will be surprised when I say this is insane.
I think this is very cool. Cracking a pack and finding nothing but gold? Swee-heet.
But I wont lie. First reaction was disgust. And I still dont like it. Its cool, but I'm honestly sick of multicolor. Again, no surprise. Would've been nice as the first set. Take that for a surprise. Tho I dont see how they'd follow that. So yeah.
But at this point, I just want it to go away.
Oh, and a prediction for Live? IT'LL BE MULTICOLOR.
...
No one would see that coming.
Some pretty exciting news alright. It will make number crunching quite fun. Also, while yes it'll be a pain to get used to, I don't think it's entirely a bad idea. Especially if they follow this set up with a block that is hugely mono-colored.
... Wow all multi-color? Is WotC trying to make one of the worst sets ever? I mean, Leigons was quite bad and the way this block is going it looks like it will be another Kamigawa. That said Saviors + Leigons does not look like a pleasant combination. Oh well I guess I'll wait till I've seen the set before I start making more judgements, all signs point to not good.

Love these kinds of posts that are backed up with solid reasoning and not just pointless doomsaying.
We know one thing about this set.
The block so far is fairly well received and a good portion of the cards are played.
Yes, wait until we know the set before calling it 'the next kamigawa'.

This looks like a great idea. They took the mutlicolor theme and ran with it. Unlike a whole creature set a la Legions theme, multicolor could be feasible. Already the environment is situated to be multicolor anyway with the availability of all the filter, pain, trilands, ect... so why no go to the logical extreme where Magic rarely ever went.
ah...the rise of never playing a monocolor deck in standard for a whole year.
Ugh, I don't like this. Being a fan of mono-color, this set will not have anything to help with my mono-color decks, and I am rather tired of the multi-color themes. At the most I play 2 colors, so hopefully it may spark some dual colored ideas in me, but this seems a little on the extreme side. Looks like I will likely save my box money for M10.

Edit: A quick gatherer search shows that there has never been an expansion without a one-CC creature. I wonder how they're going to do it.
I hope it isn't a sacrifice enchantment. Though Suicidal Charge does lead credence to this being a sacrifice enchant as well. We have so many permanents maskarading as instants via sacrifice already. A ton of artifacts doing it (Armillary Sphere, Courier's Capsule, Dispeller's Capsule, Executioner's Capsule, Protomatter Powder, Scourglass) and all the panoramas
I would much rather something with a continuing effect.
holy ****..

So, if any, what reprints do we expect to see?
Hellhole Rats, Overrule, Pain Magnification, Palliation Accord, Pillory of the Sleepless, Putrefy, Mortify, Skynight Leggionare, Souls of the Faultless, Watchwolf, Wreak Havoc, and Wrecking Ball.
I made a list of multicolored cards that thematically or flavorfully would make sense outside of their respective guilds.

Regarding ALR - freakin' AWESOME.
It's alara, not any of the shards. The place is reborn, y'know.
