I am on the mailing list for Magic Arsenal, and they were kind enough to send a scan of the second 2009 judge foil, Bloodstained mire.
All I can say is WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
It certainly means that the other 4 are going to be this year too.
WOW.

Are you kidding? It doesn't even have alternate art. It's just a regular foil except you have the unsightly DCI logo over the text box. Hardly jaw dropping in the slightest but suit yourself I suppose.
i think this card is Freakin' awesome just imagine zoo with this even on the draw u flex "Nutz" any mana drawing the extra card u can pitch and turning up the gas on tempo and it still taps for mana easily a 3 of most likely a 4 of

The fact that it's not new artwork is kinda meh, but that's okay. It's in the new frame, and I particularly like the DCI logo and will happily accept this when I judge big events this year. : )
I'm also kinda wowed that they finally did a marquee cycle like this one. Unless the faithful manager of choosing such promos (<3 jOO) is going to do something weird like release one of the cycle a year, along with other cycles similarly (RB fetch, GW shockland, WU real dual land, other things??).

Yeah I'm a bit surprised it doesn't have new art if it's a judge promo. Also, does this mean we'll have to sit through 4 more until we see something new? I'm a little disappointed, but not like I own any judge promos anyway...
I'm happy to see fetches as promos, but without alternate art it does make the card far inferior to the previous printing. All I see this card doing is lowering the value of foil Mire's a bit. Hopefully they make the rest, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sure, may not have alternative art, but still... That gets 5/5 "Wowwwza's" to me. Could be a sign from the Magic gods of enemy color pitch lands.
It could be one way to regenerate interest in those lands. Just sayin' "mayyybbbeee"...
You're complaining about promotional fetchlands? Seriously? Be honest now, how many of you are disparaging this card because you don't think there's any earthly chance you could get one for cheap?
This is equivalent to Wizards tucking a 50 dollar bill in each judge's pocket and saying "Keep up the good work there, Ace.". If a foil promo Bloodstained Mire doesn't get you excited, why the hell are you still playing this game?

pretty snazzy i have to say. but for 150 bucks, there are a bunch of cards i would rather have.
Also, i guess this means the long rumored and "confirmed" judge FoW is not coming
yeah but the other decrees are not as played.
That's not true at all....There are 5 other cards that are coming out this year as well if we are to believe that the 5 fetches are here. There are 10 cards coming out as promos this year, 2 for each of the big events (3 PT's, Nats, Worlds), so I would figure that each event would have a new fetch land and a new something else. Given that the cards are now not going to be in rotation after the end of the year, I would imagine that we are actually MORE likely to see a Force of Will now. At Worlds they could be given out, and thus being near the end of the season, that would pretty much be the extent of their circulation (along with probably Polluted Delta, since that's the 'chase' fetch.)

Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
not only that, but leave it to wizards to do something flavorful. i.e. judges getting a card named Decree of Justice.
This is very true, they occasionally like these hooks. They also once did a promotional Balance for each judge (I became a judge right after the mailing of credit card ID's and promo balances.. ). Though, if Decree of Justice was a gosh-awful unplayable card, I don't think it still would be a judge promo.

I've already ebay'ed the Mind's Desire and Regrowth, and this Mire would be awesome to pick up for my Eternal decks. I should really work on becoming a Judge.

Since there's no alternate art, I expect these to be worth less than the regular foils. Anyone who thinks this a step closer to foil dual lands or FOW is dead wrong.

I think this is one of the worst Promo-Judge foils to come up in a long time...
This is not to say that foil mire is a bad card, or not a desirable card. But the entire premise behind a "promo" is to be special in some way. This card is simply an updated 8th edition templated mire.
Lets examine the reasons people might want a Judge Foil.
a) It is a foil of a card that never before existed in foil. (Yawgmoths Will, Sol Ring, Regrowth etc). A lot of people have Cubes (type 4) that they want to "pimp out" with all foils and these revised (or beta if you are so inclined) cards stand out like a sore thumb. Some people also just have decks that they want to be all foil, and these promo's help with that.
b) Alternate Art (Balance, Decree of Justice, Demonic Tutor etc). Alternate art cards are cool. They are exclusive, and usually, they have better art than before. (a matter of opinion). The entire point of foils existing in the first place is to add an air of exclusivity to ones deck or collection.
c) Iconic Reprint. Some cards from Magics history are just cool, well known, and bring a smile to peoples faces when they remember them (or a frown if you were on the losing end of things) Shivan Dragon is an iconic card. Black Lotus is iconic.
d) Promo Collector. Some people just collect promo's. No biggie.
e) Cool factor. People like Dragons and Angels etc. Eternal Dragon (while not a particularly nice picture) was a cool promo.
This card is not a card that was never before foiled, it does not have alternate art and is definately not iconic. It is a promo, so for those who collect all promo's, i guess this qualifies, but if I were one of those persons, I would be pissed off that I have to trade for one of these just to have it in my collection. Oh, and it definately isnt a dragon.
Look at Cunning Wish for example. There is a card that is both powerful and desired which was given the new template AND some beautiful art. Balance, same thing. The only thing stopping this Mire from being an FMN foil is its rarity. I think another problem is that this might be a "4 of" in a lot of decks that would run it, so collecting 4 is a pain, and not only that, having 4 promo's is less special somehow.
All in all, very dissapointing. I guess if/when they drop down to 30 bucks in a year or so, I might pick one up to replace my original foil mire in my cube, but I wont be trading/paying highly for it thats for sure.
Also, I am sure everyone would agree that foil Dual Lands would have been a WAY more popular choice. And really, a foil mire and a revised badlands are probably worth about the same, so no problems upsetting those collectors when you think about it.
A foil Sylvan Library, Maze of Ith or Thawing Glaciers would, (while not more powerful or playable) have made a better promo.
There's no reason to make a judge promo that doesn't have alternate art as it will strictly be less valuable than its foil counterpart. This decision is mind boggling.
Why does this certainly mean that the pther 4 are going to be this year too? That is one of the most uninformed statements I have ever heard. Please explain.
I may have been a little quick to jump the gun in saying that all 5 will be absolutely be printed this year. It just seems VERY plausible, seeing at there are 5 events to which new promos are coming out this year. Each event could premiere one fetch and one pther card. Given that Living Wish is the first pther card that is coming out during Kyoto, it doesn't seem like the slot where the pther card would be won't have a direct cycle correlation (Cunning Wish has already been done).
It's hard to deny that it seems likely that the entire cycle will DCI'ed out. Bloodstained Mire just isn't iconic without the pther four cards in the cycle.

Anything...
Not necessarily. They've done Decree of Justice, but none of the other decrees. They could probably get away with doing just one or two fetch lands.

I dunno how excited one can be about judge promos considering that....they're pretty much given to judges. I don't expect to get my hands on any.
