I think it's quite good in the right deck. Turn one thoughtseize, turn two Sculler, Turn three this guy or blightning. Actually, if this is correct, I think I'll make that deck. =)
If the card is what Xctu claims it to be, it's a damn good addition to decks such as vintage monoblack aggro or deadguy ale w/b variants that can empty an opponent's hand clean by turn 2-3. I like it.

I run suicide black in legacy but I'm not sure if he can even fit in. I already have Tombstalker as my giant beatstick creature and has evasion.
Every new card that's not even unpuzzled or unspoiled IS the new tarmogoyf.

No tarmo this isn't, it's a lot more difficult to find the right deck for him.
It's nice, that's for sure.
Probably one of the strongest black creature in the last 2 or 3 sets.
Agreed. Goyf was nice for his easy splashability and his usefulness in almost any aggro/midrange deck. This guy, while fun and possibly powerful, needs discard to make him particularly useful.
A mod needs to purge information, or otherwise the Thead-starter needs to address this situation because speculation gets out of hands too quickly and quite frequently here.
The spanish site could have done what happened with Countersquall: make up a card that's even close to what this will turn out to be.
As far as what this is, I don't know and nobody does. This puzzle/riddle HASN'T been solved. AND, it's ridiculously harder than any other puzzle/riddle has been for others to solve. I'd rather have the card flat and outright because then there is none of this pointless speculation that's bogging down the thread.

I cut & pasted into word, and I don't think I got anything more than a square. Unless this list of numbers helps anyone, it's the number of symbols across (from the left) where the snow mana icons are in each row.
With all, put the same thing except with / in front of what type of tags they are (like [/card]) to close them.
Card: [card]
Hybrid: :symub: = order doesn't matter
So, just to clarify, this thing's p/t remains constantly tied to the opponent's current hand size?
Yea, it's a continuous effect.
I wouldn't be surprised if it were originally designed during Shadowmoor block to use counters, then pushed to ALA block and changed since -1/-1 counters and +1/+1 counters are a no-no in the same block.
What use is that on turn 3? It'd just be an expensive 2/2. This way your opponent has to take it into account for every card they play and if your deck is built around it you'll be making them haemorage cards anyway
even in that situation I rather have the card as it is printed as opposed to with -1/-1 counters being put onto it when it comes into play. The way it is currently printed the opponent has to decide if they want to play any cards they top deck and risk making the card in question bigger, or if they want to hold onto the cards risk further discard, and yet be safe from an immediately larger threat. In otherwords, I think this is a far more effective version of Taurean Mauler especially since it is supported more thoroughly by its own color than the Mauler ever was.
And again, this is coming from a legacy player.

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -- Varsuvius, Order of the Stick
I'm really impressed with this card. It has a great deal of synergy with black's main source of card advantage and I could easily see this being slotted into some monoblack or BR discard deck. I could also see this being used in conjunction with symmetrical discard effects and Tombstalker.
The fact that this card makes lategame discard relevant is just fantastic. This will be huge in casual circles and has a lot of promise in constructed.

I think definitely the line shows a pattern exists, but don't get caught up on it going from the top-right because on my browser it is coming from top-left.
If you resize your screen, the line will move and the patterns and arrangements of the symbols will change. That's what I'm doing with it.
Y'all are getting too thinky on this puzzle. The snow mana symbols represent spaces. The regular mana symbols translate into letters. Not sure on the pattern though, but think w=1, u=2, b=3, r=4, g=5, ww=6, uu=7 and so on... that should give you an alphanumeric substitution cypher.

I know it forces the opponent to think more care when dealing with it since its base stats will change but it would probably have had a bigger body especially against other aggro decks. Against decks that have card draw on the other hand it will get weaker.

how many decks in legacy do you know of that actually have true card draw...? maybe one that I can think of?

My H/W list
I tried breaking it down into two symbol pairs and seeingif that was a sort of cypher. Didn't work.

Anyway, I think it's useful to compare this card to Nihilith, which was (with some success) supposed to make Discard.dec/Mono-Black Whatever big.
