But when was the last time a creature with CMC > 3 was played in Standard based on the strength of its tap abilities?
Seriously, can anyone think of an example? The best I can do is Visara, but she was better at beating face and harder to kill, and also she was like 8 years ago.

I wonder if the art for this is the that guy riding the large gargoyle... I can't seem to find the picture for it, but it would explain the 4/4 body. I also believe the art kind of depicted the guy judging something, which makes sense for an adjudicator.
I fear I am probably wrong. The adjucator apparently doesn't have flying, and this art most definitely depicts a creature with flying. Maybe Sphinx Summoner?
But Arcanis could protect herself, Kiki-Jiki was instant win, and Dralnu also just won the game.

Very strong abilities. Limited this is a house. At a 4/4 body this is already somewhat difficult to handle in the current ALA format. I see this seeing play in a lot of esper. Martial Coup, then drop this the next turn to hold down the fort if something else wants to jump in the way of all the tokens
I loved it the way it was but now it it by far my favorite card in the set!
I am glad the art is good too, I can just picture that guy on the gargoyle mount blasting creatures and enchantments. I gotta get a foil of one of these!

a small sentence for you to read while you ignore my post.
One thing bothers me though. The flavour text is ambiguous, and so I don't know which impression it's trying to give: Is it saying the Esperites made their war machines such that war seemed pointless to them, or is it saying that they made things to give the impression that war was pointless to their enemies?
It's probably the latter; it makes much more sense. But it bugs me the ambiguity is there, on a crucial story-telling piece of flavour text.
It is expensive to both mortify and swing on the same turn cycle.
You wouldn't mortify and swing on the same turn (at least your own). It would pretty much be an end-of-turn mortify, most likely, and you'd have the mana for that from having played this guy prior to swinging.
He might well get picked over Oona as a control finisher, now, because of the fact it doubles as removal, even if it's in Flame Javelin range.

probably not, due to the insane amount of efficient creature removal in standard. oona actually represents multiple threats, as compared to the singular threat represented by the adjudicator.
If that's accurate, definitely beats Stratozeppelid. Feels like a rare rather than a mythic, though. The card isn't legendary, isn't something that only happens every 5000 years, etc. Urza's Rage would be mythic if printed today, imo. This larger and more expensive assassin is no mythic, that's for certain.
Wow, so it flies? Suddenly this guy has gained quite a bit of oomph in constructed. Still, if it's used, it will probably be as a 1- or 2-of, which is good news, since it's mythic.
This is a very nice card, although it requires a 3-color deck to be effective. I think people are giving it too much credit though. Compare it to Visara that sees next to no play and you get a card that will be used a bit in T2/block but not outside of it.

Holy schnikies, it flies now? Damn, even better - a well-costed fatty for blue (yes, 4/4 for 5 is good in blue. Remember, they normally don't get efficient fat) with evasion that can also Mortify at will, or can be untapped at will so long as you can pay the cost.
So very, very nice :D.

That...
wow. Huh... that would be a powerful statement if true.
I have to load up Gatherer for this.
... Hell's Caretaker?
Were Tar Pitcher or Goblin Clearcutter used?
Did Magus of the Disk do anything?
Ah, here we go: Brion Stoutarm. That made a mark. Or was it just Block?

Holy crap. Air Elemental must be feeling a bit silly.
Just noticed. Also, the creature type update means that the Aether-Lich is NOT a Vedalken, as the spoiler currently indicates.

I seem to remember Goblin Clearcutter being playing in Onslaught-Legions block (no Scourge) to cast the Amplify Dragon. Visara too.
Yeah, that's about it.
Air Elemental has now been pantsed. Also Vigilant Drake.

I always assumed Arcanis was a dude.
Or, you know, without gender. With the raceless typeline and all.
's still an artifact.
But yeah.
Love how quickly perception turns around!
