The drawback is that you HAVE to have the permanent of the proper color in order to get the benefit. Without them it's a vanilla 5/3 with no resistance to removal. Having Ajani V in play with this around will be annoying though. Or Woolly Thoctar. But aren't the good four-drops removal resistant, which this creature lacks?

Found myself agreeing with most of this post about Cavern of souls and countermagic.
Planeswalkers are just about the only safe cards to use to boost things like Behemoth because creatures will just make sure you give the opponent a 2 for 1 with wrath of god. Wizards is trying to encourage people to overextend.
This is also partly because there are very few good enchantments. Bitterblossom might help something, but that is about it.
I play double headed format with some friends usualy, and my partner uses a shroud deck. so gwa + shrout (most likely diplomatic immunity) = pretty awesome i could imagine, just gotta hope DI doesnt get counterspelled.

I'm, personally, liking Gwafa. It sounds like people expect to pacify the whole board with him. Try using him at announcement of attack to lockdown a nasty fatty coming at you. Also, when you attack to deal with their one guy who can block your dudes in a pro-color, evasive deck. He's like a counterspell, you have to know when to use him, and not overuse him. They won't always draw an answer.
I hate Cliffrunner Behemoth, but only b/c I didn't draw one at the PR. :/ I saw a total of 4 the entire day and they all came from the same box! (Each of the people were early enough in line and I was the first). So bomby it isn't even funny. I actually played 3 out of the 4 but 2 of them weren't very good deck builders. *whew*
I think Gwafa is a bit situational, but i still like him. Sure, your opponent gets to draw, but shrouding him gives you an answer for consecutive huge creatures. And if/when he gets killed, the counters don't go away. Managing to drop another one neutralizes those creatures all over again.

I think Gwafa is fantastic from a flavor standpoint. Bribing is cool, but man, bribing is pretty a pretty hardcore drawback when your opponent gets *cards* for cards. I mean, if you use it selectively against only the imminent threats I bet it works out quite well.
Cliffrunner is sick, I wish I had one at the pre-release, but one guy that did get one did really well with it and highly recommended it.
A friend had this guy down with Battlegrace Angel.... 6/4 double LifeLink anyone? Nasty...

Funny, after looking over this thread I played a sealed with a friend and pulled Gwafa.
He is pretty awful. I ended up running pretty hard Bant deck (ripped one Rafiq and 2 Rhox War Monks) and Gwafa didn't even make the cut.
Easily the biggest drawback is that after he leaves play his effect ends. In order for him to be playable IMO he would have to have shroud (sure make him a 1/1 or whatever). Even with shroud, you are still giving up cards to your opponent, and that is never good.
I really like this guy too, but he is just flat out garbage for play IMO.
