[CON] Reliquary Tower and Ancient Ziggurat

  • #1
I think I'll go back to the more traditional riddles this time.

    So, card name:

    1. What do the following have in common?
    • A non-rare tournament staple from Ravnica
    • A common from Urza's Saga that got reprinted as an uncommon
    • An Odyssey sorcery that can be played twice
    • A green card from the days the game started that is now banned in its format
    • A green card that does the same as the green card above apart from the place it puts something in
    2. What do you normally do to ice-cream? (you need to tweak this one a little bit)3. What is something we can't live without?
    4. What is the most common question, other than "What?" that people tend to ask?

    5. If something that gets you places breaks down, what do you do to it to get it off the road?
    6. What is the sound a person makes when thinking loud?

Join them up and you have the name of the card!

    For the type:
I can't do much with this, so:
    It's a permanent.

    Rarity:
    1st card from Eventide.
    3rd word.
    2nd letter.

    Ability:
Think of a card of a different type that many people love even though they know it's rather janky. A better hint would also be saying this new card obsoletes the older version quite a bit.

And what is the most common ability on cards of the same type as this? That's it's second ability.

    Guess away!

    Reliquary Tower
    Land (U)
You have no maximum hand size.
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.

    And Ancient Ziggurat:

    Ancient Ziggurat
    Land (U)
T: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to play creature spells.

But second card from eventide is Ballynock Trapper... there's no third word.

Do you mean 1st card? If so, it's Archon of jUstice, so the card is uncommon.

It's a land, with "T: add 1" - but as for the actual ability, could be ANYTHING. I'm not sure we can narrow it down without more help.
  • #13
If the card's name is Reliquary Tower, it's probably a land that comes into play tapped (I think that's the most common ability of a land except of tapping for mana...)

The clue for the ability is a bit too vague. There are so many janky lands from all over the place. If you could narrow down the set it's in, that would definitely help a lot.

    It's a card of a different type.

Simply enough - think of abilities that could be put on lands, as if they're free Rolleyes

#1 has to be lands...and its rare....im deducing lol

    It's not cycling.

The second land ability is clearly (Tap: Add (1) to your mana pool.

As for the first, there are so many loved janky cards, that this is frankly impossible...

    Zur's Weirding?
    Howling Mine?
    Coat of Arms?
    Doubling Season?
    Underworld Dreams?

I could go on all day...

I mean... seriously....at least give us the card TYPE of the card that the "janky but loved" ability is from...

Just read one of my posts here - it gives more away than many people are giving it credit for.

I love the final version of the card. No maximum hand size and taps for a colorless is pretty nifty!
  • #43
Look at the first post people, riddle has been solved.

I like this land. I have a few casual decks that I could see putting this into. No maximum hand size is perfect for a land, imho.

It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.

Just in case people want to know, here's the riddle answers:

    1. Cards are Remand, Rewind, Recoup, Regrowth and Reclaim. All share Re.
    2. You Lick your ice cream.
    3. Can't live without Air.
    4. Question is "Why?" or "Y?"

    which makes Reliquary.

    5. You Tow your car.
    6. And the sound is "Er"

    ITS SOLVED...No more guesses!

The Janky ability is Spellbook. Boo-urns to this puzzle. How was spellbook even hinted at all?

    Right here actually Wink

Woo, bad land is bad. I'm glad it's uncommon though, otherwise there'd be stacks leftover from drafting in the evening.

Note that we have the image already. Spoiled as a playmat.

Looks like the cycle of lands has nothing to do with the fact that the shards are coming together.
  • #56
And another land in the set:

Pick a land everyone loves and has been reprinted a fair few times.
    Remove its restriction.
Choose another land from Champions of Kamigawa that everyone hates.
Get rid of the restriction and turn the bonus into a restriction (with a little messing around).

    And voila, here's Ancient Ziggurat.
  • #58
Looks like the image has nothing to do with the card's ability. lol
