Ahh you know what? I did misread it. I was under the impression that he got a +1/+1 counter whenever he used the ability for some reason. he seems...better now.
As for goyf not asking you to use basics: that was a counter to an earlier implication that goyf had dominated standard. I dont see std. being a friendly place for him atm. I would rather have a "shard drop" over this guy.
I like it. I think half of a Terravore is an interesting card at the very least, and combined with Sylvan Scrying INTO PLAY, it could see some play somewhere. Of course, it would be more powerful with first strike, and "Sacrifice: Do ~" instead of tap. As of now, tacking cool tap abilities on what should be attackers is bad. See Visara the Dreadful and Avatar of Woe. You wanted to attack with them!
Yeah he's pretty bonkers actually. I used to play a fun G/W mill deck that abused Terravore to surprising successes. Needless to say, this guy is very happy to join in the fun.

I knew something was broken... thank god you've come to your senses man! I shake my fist at you for forcing me to write long frustrated posts!!!
Fetch Lands adore him. Panoramas as well if you go cheap. Even Terramorphic Expance has a knack for this guy.
Potentially, if you use any of the above, you got a 3/3 on turn 3. Pretty sweet already. A knight as well? "Haakon The Horrible" will love this guy if someone goes Doran colors! Same with Dredge techs...Great colors too. You can do a WHOLE LOT for this guy and he can do a whole lot for you by himself.
He's gonna be pretty good in almost any format, I can tell. Casual the most, imho...They will just go bonkers for him and his fixings.
Even as a 3/3, this guy is good. As a 4/4 it is golden. 2 fetchlands is all you need for this. I like it, but as a lot of cards before it, it is printed in the w/g combination, the safest one to print pushed cards in.
It will see some play for sure.

Once Lorwyn rotates out, this little Knight is going to perform far greater in Standard (no vivids, filter lands, reflecting pools...), as will the entire Shards of Alara block. However, in particular, this 2/2 for 3cc does wonders.
Mana ramp? Yup.
Mana fix?Hmhm. Grow bigger by doing both?Yessir.
Mutavault, Treetop Village, Terramorphic Expanse, Panoramas, Tri-Tap lands all love this fella.
What makes this card truly great is that it pleases both the Johnny and Spike crowds: Johnnys will love the mana-fixing; Spike will want to break it to create a new metagame.
This is the one card that I need a playset of ASAP. Everything else can wait a little bit.
Why? Read the ability again. Unless you are fetching Tron or something.
Mana fix? Hmhm.
Doubt you'll need it, but ok.
I think it's strong if there are any better ways of getting lands into the yard outside of Retrace and... erm... Terremorphic? It's a pain in the ass to support Worm Harvest in standard, despite how hard I've tried to make it work. (it's an awesome card, and obviously is good enough in extended)
Extended play looks likely, even though it dies to every removal spell on the planet. Like I said before- tap abilities on a fattie are pretty useless, but in a stalemate, you could keep fetching Treetops, I guess.
really cool card I like it a lot. probably won't be amazing in standard but definitely good in limited and could be decent in extended. Overall it just looks like a fun card and the art work is pretty decent to boot.

Vorthos will like it for the awesome art, timmy will like it because it gets BIG, :toot::toot: even if it doesn't have to.
This card is slow. Its a 5/5 for 3 with a bit of help, but that's not really that outstanding considering Thoctar and Doran are printed and aren't exactly tearing up the metagame. It doesn't do anything until turn 4 and turn 4 is very late in this meta.
Unless you Thoughtseize or Raven's Crime x 2 TEPS by turn 4 they can easily go off, and by turn 5 it's pretty likely. Burn also goes off around then and Zoo/Affinity can goldfish around then. A 5/5 for 3 mana isn't all that good in extended. If it had shroud, haste, vigilance or even trample the card might see play, but its definitely not Terravore and Aggro Loam as it was last season does not have a real shot at coming back once losing both Terravore and Devestating Dreams. MJ's Aggro Loam is more like a Rock deck that happens to have Loam in it.
This card wants Vigilance so bad and I bet it used to have it and they nerfed it. Having a tap ability along with Vigilance is the cool thing to do lately and this card screams for it.
This guy just isnt that good. Too slow for extended, and, as foxbat said, standard is not about basic lands.
Standard is not currently about basics. And add in that it doesn't require you to sac a basic, just a forest. So if shocks are in 11th that changes more. This guy may not see standard for a few months, but he will. He is nuts.

But this guy isn't just a beater. He is a deck thinning non-basic land fetching machine.
Why? Read the ability again. Unless you are fetching Tron or something.
Tap Forest/Plains for mana, then sacrifice it with Reliquary, the new land comes into play untapped (which you can then tap for 1 mana you couldn't have had without her). You mana ramp with it. I suggest you read the card again.
As I see it the tap ability is gravy on a creature that in the right deck is starting as a 4/4 or 5/5 and getting much larger from there. You only use the tap ability if your opponent is just chump blocking, in which case you can tap to thin, and possibly dig up an answer. I really like the idea of this guy vs Fae, as it can dig up Ghost Quarter to stop Riptide shenanigans. I'd try playing it in Zoo just for that.
Black makes sense as a second color for aggro, but consider a version with blue and a handful of tron pieces that can beat with cheap guys early, and drop titan or slaver later?
Oh I don't know, Bloodhall Ooze won't give himself an instant pump with a block. Also, it's nice to get rid of a plains and get a Tri-land or Mutavault at end of turn... The ability of have options is always a good ability.
For some reason I'm a lot more impressed by the last few days worth of cards. It looked like Conflux was going to be complete garbage, but now not so much.
So I logged on the computer today and saw the spoiler at 114. I was like, bad-a. So I skipped clicking on the direct links of the new cards because there were to many new cards. I went to the bottom of the page and worked my way up, rereading all the cards in the spoiler. I got to this little beauty and stopped. I read it, re-read it, read it a third time. Checked my pulse, wiped the tear out of my eye and now I came here just to make sure it was a credible card.
My Johnny sense is tingling!
My Timmy sense is tingling!

The idea that you misread it had occured to me, since you seemed to not think you could drop him late game as a huge creature.
For those unaware, the difference between gaining counters and statically gaining bigger is the difference between Tarmogoyf and Quirion Dryad... what sees more play? Now apply that to this card and Countryside Crusher, which already does see play... yeah this baby is a staple in standard and EXT hands down.

That's why you wait for all cards to be revealed instead of making up your mind when you see 80 cards out of 145 or something. This card is insane with Life From the Loam for sure.
Another T2 interaction people are not commenting on is this guy and Seismic Assault obviously colors might be a problem but that has potential.
I like this card. It's strong, and innovative.

Usually there's a couple of cards out of every new set that might have an impact on the eternal formats (Vintage, Legacy). This is one of them. Seriously HOLY cow. Deck thinning that works even better with fetches, AND a late game fattie as well? Sign me up for sure! And even for extended, it's pretty solid. Whoever thinks a 5/5 for 3 in extended isn't all that great is seriously mistaken. There's a reason why Thoctar and MoE are played. It's because they ARE great. Plus this card actually has a relevant ability on top of it that pumps itself! What's there not to like?
Tap Forest/Plains for mana, then sacrifice it with Reliquary, the new land comes into play untapped (which you can then tap for 1 mana you couldn't have had without her). You mana ramp with it. I suggest you read the card again.
...That's still not ramp. Unless you consider sacrificing a land for a land is ramp, it will never be ramp.
"Ramp", is having more land drops than you should be able to. Rampant Growth, Fertile Ground (land on top of a land), Mind Stone.... That "boost" of 1 mana is hardly qualified.
....Plus this card actually has a relevant ability on top of it that pumps itself! What's there not to like?
Extended simply doesn't exist to me, so your argument is lost on me.
So everyone arguing for Standard: I seriously can't see this being that great. If you drop her on t3, wait to tap until t4, can't attack until t5, and she is how big? It just seems that I'd rather invest that 3 mana in about anything else. Someone please tell me how this creature really pushes your board forward or ramps you more than 1 mana per turn. Even your tapped lands come into play tapped, so I don't get why this thing is THE CARD that people are humping legs over.
