totally weird. looks something that came out of a x-files episode.
it could have something to scale up the baby... this way it just looks like a baby..

ugly. looks like some one in high school painted it. we have no idea how large the child is and the whole thing is just epic fail for a number of reasons.
Who says it has to be some monstrously huge baby just because it's 6/6? It's supposed to be contain enough power that destroying it would obliterate everything. If such destructive force were focused, it could merely be as big as you or I and still be powerful enough to level one of Naya's gargantuans.
Think Akira, or even Dragon Ball Z.

EDH/Commander is a social format, right? So why don't people use their social skills to discuss what they like and don't like, instead of adopting a list with 60+ banned cards?

As a rule of thumb, don't insult another's work unless you can do better than it. And also, you might offend a few high school students (heh). I really like the art, personally. And the card itself is ridiculously powerful.

What would you attempt... if you knew you could not fail?
some people don't understand that art without beautiful women and cool-looking creatures can have just as much, if not more of an impact on viewers. not that the baby isn't cool.
i don't know too much about the story, but i think the art fits perfectly. just because it's a 6/6 doesn't mean it has to be enormous, like someone said above. it's concentrated power. i really can't get over it, a baby born out of the maelstrom is just too awesome!
Absolutely phenomenal art. Love it. Was shocked to see some people hate it, but thats how art goes. If you think there's no frame of reference for it's size you have forgotten how to use even marginal amounts of your imagination. Art is there to inspire your imagination, not just to look at and criticize.
The card itself seems good, but unfortunately reveillark's leaves play ability completely outshines how good this card might otherwise seem (aka we've been spoiled by it). Leaves play is just light-years better than goes to the graveyard. This is purely due to the insane amounts of remove your game from the game cards being printed now. Whats a graveyard again?
That art is just sick. I don't mean it being sick as in insanely amazing but literally sick. It looks like an aborted fetus of some sort seriously, I like the lighting and stuff but it looks like hell's spawn. God for an actually good card what an awful artwork.

Why you assume i can't do any better? another rule of thumb is not to assume things because you know what they say about people that assume... they make an "ass out of u and me" of course im just playin, but it is something to consider.
seriously though, i did not mean to insult HS students, they just are not known for their award winning artistic pieces, and plus its the internet every one is allowed to be a critic. but yeah, they should have sent the art back, id put it up there withReverberation

I was a college art professor for most of the last 7 years and my opinion has nothing to do with my ability as an artist. Your own skill has nothing to do with how successful you think a piece of artwork is. No one has critiqued the illustration on anything except that it is creepy (valid) and strange (very valid considering how few babies have been in the game and even more valid considering a typical baby doesn't take 6 grown men to take it down).
The funny thing about art criticism is that everyone can participate, no one is wrong if they have evidence/observations to back up their opinion, and most importantly: No one really cares what you think.
As the day has gone on, I keep coming back to this one and I have flipped 180 degrees. I want to own a few of these cards because the strangeness that repelled me at first is now what I find interesting about it. But to quote myself: No one really cares what you think.

i know what you mean! at first, i didn't know what to think of it, but i kept wanting to see it again and again. now i just love it. but about the whole "no one really cares what you think" i'm not so sure. because don't forums exist for the sake of opinions and what others think of your opinions? or what would be the point of posting what you think, when people don't care what you think. i came to this thread to see what others thought about the art and am quite amazed by the amount of negativity.

edit! i think i know what you meant though... that in most cases, people like to throw out their opinions without caring for the others'.
Sooo creepy! i love it and hate it! Its like an ultrasound in color with a unhalfdead Glowing in radiation baby. haha I love it even if it is disgustingly creepy, its also soo oddly intriguing i keep looking at it out of pure curiosity.
As I have expected, the Child is the embodiment of the spark being born among the uniting shards:
I guess the playtest name must have been Fluorescent Fetus.
Not sure if I like it or not from a Casual point of view. The only problem I have with it is that you almost have to play it fairly. There are much better reanimation targets out there, and the card kills Sneak Attack. Furthermore, I'd rather play a Bringer for that mana cost. The -1/-1 doesn't mean much if I get a free Inspiration or Vampiric Tutor each upkeep. That leaves, what, Through the Breach? The Avatar tribe is interesting, though. Maybe an Avatar Tribal deck?...
There's really nothing that I would play this over, even in 5-color (OK, maybe Fusion Elemental). With that said, I still want one for the massive WTF factor it has. Go Fetus of Doom!
And what does the world of Alara have to do with Urza, he has nothing to do with the story right (besides, bringing him into the story would just be to much, heck if they did that then they should bring back Yawgmoth too and Serra and.....)
I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the word "reincarnation".

So looking at this baby I say Alara was a human-alien hybrid. I really would like to see a goblin baby there you know, just for the shock of it: "Soooo Alara was a goblin!!! Interesting..."
also don't putrefy it or you are a "Child" killer. You can safely O-ring it though; think of it like a premature ward.
By the way, the art would have been better even while keeping the baby concept. Work more art department, please us better!

Personally, I really enjoy art like this. Gotta get a Japanese foil!
I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the word "reincarnation".
.
WRONG.
I don't mind expressing distaste because someone doesn't like it, but I think using words like "ugly" is unnecesary.
"Baby" is a nice nickname, but I don't think it will stick. Who knows, though?
<_<
>_>
Don't judge me.
Magic cards typically have the worst nicknames. Whoever first started calling goyf "Goofy" should be shot.
But Baby Boomer, I can not only laugh at, but get behind.
Art. Is. Incredible. This game never ceases to amaze me.
