Are we seeing the dawn of casual play actually being metagame play come conflux? We have Progenitus, Thornling maybe and now Child of Alara. sweet. fun decks are getting fun-er
I'm considering trying this in 5CC as a win condition instead of broodmate. It puts them on a clock they have to deal with, and when they do, it leaves the 5CC player in a dominant position.
horde of nations, fusion elemental, child of alara with prismatic omen, kaleidoscope and ancient ziggurat plus dramatic entrance, is this deck viable in tourneys?

Assuming those cards were all as powerful and reliable as you wish they were:
5 drop, 5 drop, 5 drop, must hit 2 drop, 2 drop that only replaces itself until turn 5, land that can't help you set up any of these things or activate kaleidostone, 5 drop.
Decks need more than just 5 drops. You can only cast one a turn until at least turn 10.
Fusion Elemental might go into 5 color elementals alongside Horde of Notions, and Ancient Ziggurat almost certainly will... but they don't all belong in the same deck.

I guess I don't see what's so casual about Child? 6/6 Trampler for 5 alone would make it tourney playable. Add the BOOM and you've got T2 gold. The ONLY drawback is it's 5 color cost, and that's hardly an issue these days.

I don't disagree at all that Child of Alara is T2 playable, as he is awesome - I love the card.
Unfortunately, being a 6/6 trampler for 5 isn't good enough to be playable on it's own anymore. Such a card still needs good support, as is evidenced by Deity of Scars, who is arguable better than spirit monger and has seen no play at all. regeneration, sadly, is a very bad creature ability currently.
On a happier note, killing everything when you leave play isn't bad at all. I will be getting a playset of these just for the coolness factor.

The leaves play ability will be what people use it for if it sees play. It nukes planeswalkers. That is a definite plus. You can play 2 to trigger it's leaves play ability. And this is definitely the best 5 colour, non-sliver, EDH genral ever.

That's a little disappointing. I like the look of the Child itself, but it seems like it would be better to see a scale relationship that would truly describe his size and power.
...That's gonna look sweet in foil. I'd have liked to see more detail, though.

Wow! Reminds me of the baby at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And strangely this is one of the few babies I don't feel freaked out by. It is a little creepy but at the same time screams "HOPE HAS COME" or something. >__>
ugly. looks like some one in high school painted it. we have no idea how large the child is and the whole thing is just epic fail for a number of reasons.

5th turn - Child of Alara
7th turn - Spearbreaker Behemoth
8th turn - Realm Razor + Giant Growth
As I have expected, the Child is the embodiment of the spark being born among the uniting shards:

that's just creepy.
God that is awful. I was hoping Child would be interpreted a little more elegantly and not so "over the head" literally.
WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
I was expected to see the spark personified, and personified it is. It's a child, what would you expect? Something like Fusion Elemental?
Creepy, yes. But OK for me.

Look at his forearm... you have the ulna and radius showing separately with no flesh inbetween... definitely creepy...
