I don't know if this has been pointed out, but this card goes great with boggart shenanigans . Three damage per goblin is fun fun fun.

"Equal to twice"? How does that work? You choose which one?
Ummm did you start playing yesturday?Take however many goblins he devours and x2 to get the damage.
1 gobo=2damage
2 gobos=4 dmg
3 =6 dmg
4 =8
5 =10
and so on and so...

Stifle, STP, Path to Exile, Terror, Trickbind, and ect. This isn't going to be an extremely good finishing move. It probably won't replace Siege-Gang, simply because the dragon doesn't drop on Turn 2 with Lackey.
Not if the damage kills them, besides you can counter/remove good 'ol commander to.
Please elaborate what that has to do with Voracious Dragon.

booooring... do we really need more goblin cards? Start working more on underserved tribes, like illusion saproling, kobolds ect.
I agree. This card was a good opportunity to help Saproling tribal along - Alara had a few good Saproling producers. Shame Goblins get the nod yet again. This card could have been designed to care about Goblins and Saprolings; or, even more interestingly, token creatures.

Because Vexing Shusher is a goblin and it allows the dragon to come into play without being countered.
It's not broken at all. I like to overuse the word to mimic how overused it is. But either way, it's a combo in some respect.
Yes, Vexing Shusher is a good card to toss in with the dragon. Besides for just ensuring the Dragons arrival it helps all components of your deck. I'm really thinking about a R/G goblin deck with Sarkhan Vol right now.
yeah this card will help a tier 2 or maybe even a tier one goblin/burnish type of deck make a stand...i really hope they give us some more goodness for this type of deck...so far i am most excited to about this card

Even though I would like to see other tribes be represented, this set, and the next one are not tribal themed sets. We may have to wait at least 2 years until we get a set that is tribal themed. Until then, se la vee bizz's...
Voracious Dragon -
Creature - Dragon (R)
Flying
Devour 1
When Voracious Dragon comes into play, it deals damage equal to twice the number of goblins it devoured to target creature or player.
4/4
If that's right, holy crap, a good Dragon! Looks better on paper than Tarox Bladewing - easier to cast, devour instead of haste (decent trade-off), not legendary, extra toughness, comparable non-keyword abilities.
Could end up a win condition for red decks in Standard.
This to me seems like the kind of card that used to be able to devour anything for the effect but in testing it felt too swingy. I remember WOTC talking about Outrage Shaman and how it used to hit players as well but in testing you'd have the card fling 16+ points of damage at your opponents face turn 4-5 and similar stupid things. To keep the card sane, they probably restricted the damage trigger to Goblins (rather than say making you do X damage for X creatures sacced instead of 2X). Cause, let's face it, the effect is really powerful and goblins kind of got shafted in Lorwyn.
It seems to be pretty solid, especially as an alternate finisher for any goblin tribal deck, especially a token based one. The only thing I'm disappointed with is that every new block I wish for a different tribe out of red (Dwarves, Orcs, Beasts, even a continuation of Elementals) but they keep going back to goblins. It's unfortunate really; Goblins are popular since they have made a ton of great Goblin cards and they have to keep making more Goblins since they are popular.
No, I'm just not a native English speaker, so the wording confused me. I'm used to cards saying weirder things like "deals damage twice the number of..." I'm also sort of a philologist.
The phrase "equal to twice" has many interpretations. It can be: "you choose either equal, or twice (of course everyone would choose 'twice'. 2 is better than 1)", "a number between the original one (let's say 2) and the double of that (in the case of 2, it would be 3, because the double of 2 is 4 and 2+4=6/2=3)"
Yeah, I know, I analyze things waaay to much. I play U, not R, but thanks for answering my inquiry.;)
I don't know if anyone already mentioned this, but if this card is the real deal Dirty Kitty decks (Extended Goblin decks splashing green for Fecundity) have just gotten that much better.
Unlike the infamous Elves! deck you don't even have to attack to win with this card - just sack 10 or so goblins and it's Good Game. Don't know how long it would take to set this whole thing up but I would be really surprised if it took more then 3-4 turns. With Chrome Mox it would take even less then that so I'm guessing it will see sufficient play...

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.

But how often are you going to have 10 Goblins and not already winning/won?
But how often are you going to have 10 Goblins and not already winning/won?
In Dirty Kitty decks you usually play all your goblins on the same turn, so they're summoning sick. It's better to kill them in all one big turn rather than exposing yourself to Pyroclasm or Cryptic Command.
I like this dragon a lot! Regardless of whether it sees play or not, I will probably make a fun casual deck out of it. Even just sacrificing one puny Goblin to get a 5/5 Dragon + Shock is pretty nice. I'm also glad it doesn't make Elves even more bonkers.
But how often are you going to have 10 Goblins and not already winning/won?
When you don't have Goblin Warchief and you are forced to give them an extra turn to reset the board. Seriously, it gives Goblins a win condition that does not involve turning creatures sideways. Along with Grapeshot, this should give the deck quite a few new nice things to play with.

You wouldn't even need Shields, you could just Mirror Entity with x=1.

At least goblins have the rudimentary intelligence to worship dragons and bathe themselves in a mouthwatering sauce.
ManPlaneswalker, you don't get to choose your food. 'S how it is.Do any of you think this card might replace Predator Dragon in versions of Extended Elves running Mirror Entity?
I don't.
Still another bomby rare to swing with in Limited.

Not all goblins give you gas, just Goblin Ringleader. *rimshot*

Cool!
Hopefully R/G will become competitive by the end of this block, giving Sarkhan his rightful time in the sun.
I forget, was he ever used?
