Efficient creatures? Enchantment and flyer hate? Protection from an enemy colour? Mana acceleration? Two decent card-drawing spells in three years? In green?
Wow Spectral Procession will be taking a lot of collateral damage from Scattershot Archer's attempt to neutralize Bitterblossom.
The good news is that the Archer is pretty narrow in application and may not be flexible enough to make the cut even in the sideboard. Unless you are absolutely dedicated to beating faeries or 1/1 flying spirit tokens, you might want a more flexible card.
I've never seen a set so blatantly hose a deck archtype. I guess they learned their lesson from when they tried and failed to hose Affinity. Cool cards! I'm glad to see we still have some nice surprises waiting!
I am one of those Forum lurkers that rarely ever posts, but come ON!!! I played faeries since they came, and i love them, i cannot believe how many hosers they are throwing at us, it's amazing, as a faerie player i know the deck can be beaten, even with the tools available, and even then i can't do but be ashamed about a Game (magic) that keeps kicking the fallen, too much hate for my taste, cannot believe it. At least make it uncommon. Anyway, on the cards, horrible design on the archer (i mean it's a superb card but cost/PT/ability are way above the curve, and at common).
Squire is super nice for limited, constructed nay.
Scattershot Archer is cool if you can make it stick, but that will be hard considering the amount of quality removal Faeries usually runs, plus its inherent vulnerability to Spellstutter Sprite. Long time since I see a one-mana "you lose" card for an entire archetype; not even Extirpate had this kind of effect against the decks it targeted.
As far as 5cc cares about Faeries hosers, Celestial Purge fits the bill perfectly. I'm growing more convinced that the Purge should be used maindeck, seeing as how it solves pretty much every problem posed by the current environment. Between four Celestial Purges and four Esper Charms, 5cc will have enough redundancy to improve the faeries matchup quite a bit.
What REALLY worries me is game two against most aggro-control decks, since Mark of Asylum turns all non-Wrath of God sweepers into blanks. So many games will be decided by a lucky initial hand that it's going to be annoying as hell.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
People hiss and grunt at Mark Rosewater for the state of the game. Few realize, though, that it is Aaron Forsythe who is directly responsible of the current state of affairs due to negligence as head of Magic R&D and a completely skewed view of the game as a whole.
So next time you want to make an avvy with Rosewater pissing on something, take a deep breath and consider pasting Forsythe's face there instead...

1. I agree. Make it an uncommon.
2. I see it as fair that the hosers being thrown at fae are all in the opposite colors (red, green). And that's it. Looking at the color wheel and all the other things, I don't think that the color hosers are out of line:
a. Red and green killing those that fly is not a bad thing.
b. Blue controlling mana and creatures on the board is not a bad thing.
They have created the true balance between them (or are working on it at least). Each of the colors should have a chance at winning.
In my perfect dream, the colors will depend on the player who knows the strengths and not the intrinsic power of a set of specific cards.
This might should be a part of a different post, but:
How balanced would the following card be?
Bitterawesome
1G
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, Bitterawesome deals one damage to each creature with flying; You gain one life.
We can't get a Rumor Mill tread to be strawman free, can we. :/
Sigh.
Nope, sure can't.
Perhaps I chose my words poorly though.
People are angry about the rarity of this card being a common while in the same set there are people angry about a card being a rare.
To me, this is very strange behavior and worth pointing it out as such.
To me, it seems like if WotC pushes a card to rare it's a problem and people complain. If it's deemed 'too strong' to be common, it's a problem and people complain.
EDIT: Also, in order for it to be a strawman, we'd have to be debating.
Nowhere did I say that anyone was wrong for being upset that this is a common. Feel free to re-read my post you quoted. That post was a comment that WotC is damned if they, damned if they don't.
Scattershot Archer is just cheap. That ability shouldn't be on a 1/2 for ONE MANA. And at common. Jeez. Come on, wizards.
The Aven, however, I can approve of. Awesome common that will definitely help make exalted be a force to be reckoned with in block.
What I fail to realize is how making this card uncommon would make any difference. It's not a card I'd want to be main boarding in limited. Are you upset that people can actually afford a reasonable hoser for your overpriced faerie deck?
Anyway, it's definitely not cheap. The only deck this card is playable against is fae and maybe shooting down random spirit tokens from Kithkin. It's merely a narrow card that does a good job hosing the best deck.
i think this card is Freakin' awesome just imagine zoo with this even on the draw u flex "Nutz" any mana drawing the extra card u can pitch and turning up the gas on tempo and it still taps for mana easily a 3 of most likely a 4 of

This is actually pretty obvious... and they know it. That's why they have player psychographics, for example. Some subset will always be annoyed by a card another subset loves. It's how their business has always worked, and always will.
And also, the fact that such a mass effect on a very effective weenie is common is just the icing on the cake. The card itself is such a blatant hoser against a deck that is already damn well beatable that it probably shouldn't even have been printed in the first place.
Fantastic. Make them go three color. Make them mess up the mana base. You don't 'just' go three colors.
With the fixing from both LOR/SHM block and SoA block, I see it being completely feasible and viable. It will slow down the deck by one turn, but that is probably exactly what Wizards want in order to level the playing field without completely destroying faeries. That is, of course, if Fae players wish to continue playing that deck. And its not like Wizards didn't give Fae players any answers to all this hate. And its also not likely that a person will run 4 archers, 4 celestial purges, 4 volcanic fallouts, 4 jund charm, etc...
As for B/W token and Kithkin decks, just hope they don't drop the glorious anthem or ajani goldmane in time for their spectral possession tokens.
However, still, with all this hate, I am interested in seeing what new archetypes will rise after this set.
The good Exalted guys are costed like they don't have Exalted, so this guy is missing a point of power and/or toughness. Bleh. A 2/1 flyer with Exalted for WW would have been better.
This also represents the fourth of five instances of Exalted. I know Hierarch is pimp sauce and all but I'm really hoping for a very playable non-creature permanent, like Angelic Benediction but, you know, good.
oh yeah green card green card hallelujah take that faeries dert n dert n dert
Is that why the top decks in standard are currently things like Vengeant Lark, Kithkin, Merfolk, Faeries, Mono-red, BW Tokens, and 5-C Control?
I think everything is protecting itself against green just fine.
Efficient creatures? Enchantment and flyer hate? Protection from an enemy colour? Mana acceleration? Two decent card-drawing spells in three years? In green?
i prefer akrasan squire, and scattershot archer owns it.
I cant believe this is only cost G. A 1/2 and with this sweet ability. Get owned faeries
thanks Spiderboy4

Why do I lurk so much? Really want another non-testing noob posting suggestions?

"NOBLE HIERARCH IS RARE?!?!?!"
"SCATTERSHOT ARCHER IS A COMMON!!??!??!"
Make a good card rare, and it's a money grab.
Make a good card common, and it's an unfair hosing.

It's green. If I've ever seen a downside in Magic since Urza's Saga, that would be it.
Nope, sure can't.

LoL... 3th? Sorry, that just made me laugh.
Yeah, you're probably right on the 3rd-6th pick. I would say the Archer is actually much stronger in Constructed b/c of Blossom/Spectral.
