I like that Ooze. I mean sure it won't start growing until turn 3 but think of it as a Figure of Destiny that grows by itself. It will demand an answer on Turn 5 and if they don't have one it will keep beating until they are out of chump blockers.
Mmmm. I want to go build a deck right now. The Ooze, some Volcanic Fallouts to clear the way, I have no idea what else but I'll think of something.
It does. It's just that Bolas fits in the standard card frame. Because he's that awesome.
While I agree that he is that awesome, I must say that I, too, am disappointed that Bolas doesn't have an out-of-frame experience...maybe a few pieces going out of the frame, just because he is so incredibly powerful...it's a shame they had to break that rule for PW art so soon, and on the best 'Walker yet...(flavor wise, anyway)

Hmmmm, I think Ooze has the potential to be very good in Constructed. Kinda like a FoD. Everyone will ignore it on turn 1 but, in multiples and as you play more permanents, the oozes will start becoming a threat and mid-game, your opponent will be put in the difficult position of dealing with your mid-game threats on top of new ones like the growing Oozes.
Yeah the only color that can kill it quickly with a card that is built for it is red really (mogg fanatic shock effects). Black can technically but it would have to waste a terror or something which means your later threats are tougher to stop.
White similar problem sure you can use good old Path to Exile on it but definilty gonna give that guy a major boost if you do that early. I guess black still has peppersmoke which works well against this card but it doesn't run that anymore really.
The Ooze will not be played in competitive standard. Feel free to sig this.
Here we go again I don't know anymore why people even bother, haha. Thought about ooze some more, and being a 1/1 for one red mana isn't bad in the first place, it's just 'normal', and the potential to grow is a very good bonus.

Bolas doesn't fit inside the frame. The frame conforms to Bolas's dimensions, lest it draw his wrath.
As for the Ooze, I actually think it would be best in a deck with heavy control elements. There just isn't enough time for it to grow otherwise. Goyf was absurd because each one came into play huge and (barring a Crypt) either stayed that way or got bigger. This one has to do its own growing every turn, and I think that's going to hurt it, at least in the short term. It might be better after the abomination that was Lorwyn block rotates, assuming said rotation slows the format a little.

Thats true if a RGB or RGBU control deck can utilize this that would be possible. Give it plenty of time to grow until hes far too big to deal with. But even if hes killed off its not like you paid 10 mana for him odds are they have to tap more mana to get rid of him then you did to cast him.
I agree with the guy kogepan. Ooze will likely not see competitive play. Compared to Figure of Destiny it's absurdly worse. Historically, cards requiring other cards to be in play are bad. Topdeck it and it sucks. RGB is not a T2 Competitive archetype. Etc.
On the other hand Nicol Bolas is awesomely badass and I want.
i like it. it may see play in a domain type zoo in standard, or a 5 color agro control. its never bad, lategame you will likly have a green and or black permanant in play to make it grow to be big by the time it attacks. even in extended i think it will make zoo builds with cards like confidant and shadow guildmage which are already played.
also when reading the article on bolas, you know it was originally written to say
he cant do that,
sure he can hes Nicol ****ing Bolas,
and the list of names must have been along the lines of
Nicol ****ing bolas
Nicol Bolas, Badass
Chuck Norris 2.0
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker so great that a title worthy of his summoning would circle the card several times over so we will just have to make him Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, for he is the only true planeswalker and his might will be seen by all.
Nicky B.
Dear god, that Ooze is just uncalled for. Talk about a powerhouse! Wild Nacatl was great, and this is like him but just keeps growing. But then again he doesn't hit for three on turn two and is only a 1/1 late game. I'd put him on even grounds with the Nacatl overall, I think.

i just hope each other color has one of these 1 drops that care for other colors
turn 1: lotus petal for red, ooze, bayou and cast a black/green hybrid 1 drop.
turn 2: taiga, rancor, rancor, swing for 7.
it even sounds sick in vintage
Yes. It sounds like, using vintage cardpools, you can sacrifice a chance to disrupt your opponent for the turn it takes them to kill you, to double enchant a one drop not as good as the cards in the already limited pool of played aggressive creatures.
If you activate Treetop Village during your upkeep, your Ooze will get counters without need of any other permanents. Just sayin'.
The card doesn't seem that good but it's still one freaking mana for something that can get really big. Figure is 5 mana for a 4/4, and 11 mana for an 8/8. This has no costs attached.
The ooze is good, I'm not going to comment on whether it'll be goyf good or limited good as I'll probably be horribly wrong and It'll end up in someone's sig. But I will say this; it's a well designed flavorful card. I especially like the fact that they previewed it on the same day as bolas as the "blood of the first dragon" text makes me think of bolas.
As for the tokens yick yuck yeagh, that art disgusts me.

Saemar is not a wizard, is not fighting on a battlefield and is not casting spells.

They had to differentiate him in some way from all the others. Consider that this is the first planeswalker card featuring one of the pre-Mending planeswalkers, thus his remaining entirely within the frame may be in regard to that. Also, you have to consider how epic Bolas really is. By having one part sticking out, you declare that part more epic than the rest of him, which isn't really right. If he were going to be outside the frame, he'd have to be entirely outside of it, as in covering up all the text and stuff. He's just that badass. Finally, consider than he himself might find the whole popping out of the card frame thing a little tacky. The others might do it out of some insecure need to show that they're not confined by boundaries, but he's Nicol Bolas. He needs no such visual cues to display his power. I wouldn't be suprised if he coerced the visual guys to keep him in the frame. The card itself is just the right amount of awesome for an eight-mana card, and I think they did him justice without making him unfun. Probably also his doing.
Bloodhall Ooze is good, but I wouldn't call it Tarmo 2.0 just yet. Still, I'd be snapping them up while they're cheap.

Still, you have to admit that the initial investment of one red mana for a potential 5/5 by turn 4 is super awesome.
Playing tower above on a Manaplasm and beating for 11 seemed really awesome too.
But it never happened.
The card is not atrocious but I don't think its much for constructed. Its very easily dealt with, and youve got anywhere between one and several turns before it even becomes a threat.
I would really like to see a Nicol Bolas in Alara Reborn. im not farmiliar with the storyline so if he doesnt develop more powerful or find he can return to his might with the spark, then whatever, but to see an ultimate bolas costed at something along the lines of WUBBBBRG still 8 mana but with the mana of all alara at his disposal. not exactly sure how he could make a game possible at that mana since hed have to be so much stronger than this, but give him shroud, and maybe a comes into play effect (akromas vengeance) we could have potential.

I just wish the tops of his wings werent cut off, i mean if they were in the frame, that would be one thing, but they are just cut off, which didnt happen on the other planeswalkers.

I may eat these words, but: There is a 13 year old right now going crazy about his Bloodhall Ooze deck much like the 13 year old who brags about his Manaplasm deck that I play every week.
I like the ooze and I think there will be some way to make him useful in standard. He looks really good at first glance but then you notice how slow he can be. Like someone said, it is almost a dead draw late if you're behind. However on a stalled board late this could be a game changer.
