Well, yeah, I guess it's not the place and I'm not the first one who says that but... what's the reasoning behind giving out cards of a different format of the one you're playing in ? FNMs are Standard, why making extended Promos in the first place. The boy who's been playing for two months doesn't even know what "Format" means. Give him a card he can play everywhere.
Maybe that reason you gave is exactly WHY they give out extended promos...so that boy can read Myr Enforcer and ask one of his friends "What is affinity?" and when his buddy tells him, and explains there's a deck in a different format based around that strategy, that boy who got the Enforcer might want to collect the cards for affinity and start playing it

While I wouldn't put it past Wizards for thinking that, it doesn't really help them. They don't really see money from sets that are out of print.

Limited enthusiast, Legacy miser, and begrudging Commander.
Makaro has given you a reasonable answer, greymon, although I see what you mean.
Also, I checked back because I noticed nobody to said thanks to ukokusanzo for sharing; this attitude surely won't make him come back with pleasure next time.
Thanks
Yeah if you are going to print an affinity card print Thoughtcast, Atog, or Plating. Also haven't fnm promos been uncommons so I don't know why they'd start printing commons.
cmon guys who doesnt like the card for one reason or another? i loved his design and hes not bad either. and its the first common fnm promo right? well...thats a collectors item then =-)
There have been a number of common FNMs, Granted some that were reprinted were uncommons like Kird Ape. Here's a few: Disenchant, Duress, Sparksmith, Counterspell, Brainstorm, Wild Mongrel, Mogg Fanatic, Armadillo Cloak, Blastoderm, Rancor, Deep Analysis, Elves of Deep Shadow, Firebolt, Force Spike, Goblin Legionnaire, Seal of Cleansing, Terminate, Wall of Roots.
There have close to the same amount of common FNMs than Uncommons. And some of the commons are more valuable to players than the uncommons.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck *********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like to to occur and validate you.

exactly. you get something like rhox war monks and even newbies would be inclined to buy more new packs to support their "cool new promo" with bant cards or what have you. supporting old sets seems counterintuitive on multiple levels.

But the Gateway Promos are always of a current set. I believe the current ones are Woolly Thoctar and Sprouting Thrinax.
I still agree that standard promos at FNM would be welcome. These days at FNM either people don't want to trade the foil they win (Scepter) or they can't find anyone who wants it (Serated Arrows).
back when they were giving out standard cards ppl complained as well (smother, willbender etc.). I'd rather have them give out uncommons from extended that are hard to come by. Eternal Witness was a good example of this.

Yeah you've got a point here, I thought about this while re-reading this thread, and basically came to what you said.
I'm not going to use the FNM cards, but at least I can trade it to someone who will. And besides, even if they made a crap uncommon in Standard a promo, no one's gonna want it any more than Serrated Arrows, and when the set rotates out, it WILL be a Serrated Arrows.
Still... if there were FNM Kitchen Finks with new art... *drooooooool*
GB Elves <-man I hate this deck, it has a 50/50 matchup against Tier 1/2 but loses to jank aggro most of the time. UB Faeries <-only reason it's good is because of all those people that's still playing 5CC. WB Tokens <-so boring, there's only 2 ways to play this deck. RB Blightning <-Autopilotting you to victory 0-2 drop.
???B Super Secret Tech <-dude, this thing is nuts! 90/10 against all matchups.
Why would I want a Rhox War Monk promo when I only draft and open shards packs since its new?
I agree that it is nice to get promos of older cards that are hard to come by. The standard promos are worse anyway. Resurrection, Serrated Arrows, Desert, etc. Some of them may have had nice looking art, but that doesn't mean I will want to use the card.

Except that Serrated Arrows already rotated out of Standard when they were released a couple of months ago.

That kills me how the first day we were eligible to get the Serrated Arrows was the first day Shards was legal to play, making Serrated Arrows rotate out. Hilarious.
That myr enforcer art is awesome...but yeah print thoughtcast in FNM form that would be cool and is due for new art
I don't complain about the FNM promo's they give out that are extended legal extended > standard because a lot of standard crap when it rotates out is worthless in extended and legacy.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
Most likely that was an art commissioned for Mirrodin block but was unused, and found a home when they took the opportunity to use it for this promo. It happens all the time with unused art.
Au contraire to what most people are saying here this to me is WOW and it actually might get me to play in FNM this February. As an affinity lover, I truly think that enforcer is representative of this deck and I am happy to see the great alternate art.
