I have an idea for a Magic TV show, and here it goes.
You take 15 random people and have them do some recockulous Magic type reality show type events. Like the first even could be like a huge stack of cards and they have to build in EDH deck in like 15 minutes or they get partnered up for a multi-team chaos multiplayer.
To create more hilarity, some of these people could have no previous Magic experience, and you have judges to judge their decks before they have to play them out.
lack of interesting content??? Would no one like to see a reality show with patrick chapin, mark herberholz, and nassiff playtesting for an upcomming pro tour. We would have bar shenangans, PAt comming up with crazy ideas and mark shunning them. OH and then they would have a Real World style closet cam with Pat crying about how hurt he is and that Mark should be kicked off the team. Special guest appearnces by Gabe Walls and the like. I would love this show. A reality MAgic TV show.
I would totally watch that!..
On a more serious note, I wonder if this will have anything to do with WoTC's supposed new marketing campaign that was mentioned in MTGcast's interview with Elaine Chase.
If they actually do make a magic show I really hope it doesn't involve that jackass Chapin in any way. He apparently hasn't realized that being a good magic player and being a decent person aren't mutually exclusive.

What the hell are you talking about? Nobody has ever said anything about Chapin being a jerk.
Urza forbid that for being the outcome. I wouldn't mind even if its a 1 mini-series consisting of 12 cartoon episodes of Gerrard, Crovax and others that follows the book and is 45-or more minutes per episode.... that would just be my 2c.

I was thinking the same thing about a cartoon show in the same vein as Pokeman and Yugi ho (sp?). You most likely wouldn’t get shows though about Gerrard, Crovax etc… because that story line is about 10yrs old and those cards have 0 relevance to today’s Standard game. Remember kids want what they see and want to play with what they see. What’s the point of a cartoon promoting a game if you can’t play with the people in the cartoon in the game that cartoon is based upon?
Wow, as if reality tv wasn't stupid and played out enough as it is, we need a reality tv show based on Magic pros. G4 is the worst network I have ever seen.

I would agree. Most experiences with pros I've had have largely been negative. Having a fun personality on tv does not necessarily mean they are fantastic human beings IRL. I will never forget listening to people go off on how awesome certain pro players were years ago when I had just seen the same dudes at a Grand Prix event acting like pompous jerks and cry babies in person. I saw one Pro shove their way through a crowd looking at new pairings SCREAMING "I HAVE TO GET THROUGH AND SEE MY PAIRINGS NOW!!!!." I never met Patrick IRL mind you, but I take any "good" things I see about Pros online with a grain of salt since.

Chapin as the voice of Urza in a Brother's War miniseries.
I have. I've met him. No one I know that's met him has anything nice to say about him.
Very few people are all good, or all bad.
I'll break your chain right here, then. I was sitting at a table at the Shadowmoore prerelease, reading my way through "The Moon is a harsh Mistress", and waiting for my flight to start. While I'm sitting there, this guy walks past, and is set upon by a small group of teenage guys, asking if they could take their picture with him, and get a couple autographs. He smiled, joked, shook hands, obliged their requests for pictures, and autographed just about everything they stuck in front of him.
As the crowd broke up, asked one of the kids who that was, and went right back to my book.
While I've also heard a couple of horror stories, I can't say I've seen any of them in person, as opposed to having seen this... granted, I've little actual idea what the guy looks like, and I'm soley taking the kid's word as to who it was, but if all of that is correct, that's not exactly the actions of a completely terrible human being.

So...creating a reality show for gamers, about gamers, by people who understand the game is bad. Thanks for your opinion.
This is about as silly as (9 years or so ago) people immediately dismissing "Yet Another Star Search Clone" which quickly became the biggest TV show in the US.
Now I'm not saying this is American Idol by any means, but what I'm saying is that everything is based on how well you execute an idea, not on the idea itself. Entire movies have been made in one room and were awesome ("Tape"), while untold millions gets spent on absolute garbage (Alexander, Speed Racer, etc).
I have. I've met him. No one I know that's met him has anything nice to say about him.
I've met him, I know him, and I consider him a good friend of mine. Patrick is awesome and gracious and I've never seen him engage in any douchebaggery. Just my point of view.
I wouldn't put a**holes on my show, FWIW. They're not worth it. Magic, to me, is about friends and community, and those type of players don't help either.
Well I would definately say Evan is a pretty trustworthy source on Patrick's "real" personality. I will say however, some of the folks we've seen interviewed and featured on a lesser scale on The Magic Show are some of the folks I've mentioned that were just plain rude and off base to non-pro players at the Grand Prix I attended.
On the TV show, Patrick is likely the most interesting of the personalities we could be offered for a show like this. However, why not a reality series that takes 7 strangers, puts them in a room, teaches them MTG, and throws them on the Pro Tour! Soccer moms and homeless guys arguing about how bad Wrath Of God is (because if kills your guys too! ) FTW!

Having met Patrick in real life, through drafting at RIW, he is an excellent person to play magic with, and he is always welcoming to other players. I have never seen him do anything to warrant the crap that he is getting in this thread. I think a reality show of the worlds prep would be hilarious, and am now waiting to see it.
I do want to clarify (because I don't like witch hunts), that Patrick was NOT one of those players who rubbed me the wrong way. I am simply being general in the fact that a great camera personality does not equate great person in real life. I've plenty of "celebrities" in my line of business and have been shocked at how different some people can turn out to be. I've met some who you'd think would be the biggest jackasses ever, and have them turn out to be very thoughtful, respectful, and people who you'd want to hang out with on a regular day of the week. Then others who you can't wait to meet turn out to be complete social retards with huge egos. The camera lies sometimes!

I have never ever heard anybody say an unkind word about Evan. He is about the most beloved Magic personality in this country. That being said, if he is freinds with the Innovator I would bet he is a decent person.

The last thing the world needs is another reality show. Something about the actual storyline would have been nice. Really, anything but this would have been nice. I would have even settled for Jon Finkle Gets Groceries, which in every episode Jon goes to the local market and buys a new item, over this.
"Tonight, on Patrick Chapin's Magic: the Gathering, Patrick has slimmed the deck down to 61 cards, but who will be cut next? Mountain, Shock, or will it be Chimney Imps? Tune in tonight at 7!"

I'll be surprised if it lasts a season.
I think it would be more like this. Pat and Heezy go to the Bar and pick up on chicks. Steve Sadin pops along and says something awkward like "its like someone cast Giant Growth on all there breasts".
If you read his articles there are always some great antics going on behind the scenes. Like when they were in hollywood and nassif runs down the street and hops in David williams car and Dave didnt know Nassif was with the crew.

I think it's going to be almost like a reality TV show, actually.

I very sincerely doubt it's just going to be video coverage of them playing Magic.
Also, I fail to see how playing Magic or watching television makes your life not "worthwhile".
