Those are some really nice mats. I do hope they keep the numbers limited though. Anyone can go buy a mat, not eveyone can win one at a prerealese. The art is really awesome!

Sick find dude. I find the 'Dark' qualifier in the names odd but sadly the Orb disproved my sudden hope for a Snow Land alternative.
Still those lands look amazing. The Mountain is terrific and the Plains looks so dark.... I really think Shadowmoore may be as much the darkest flavoured set in Magic history as Lorwyn was the most upbeat. When I heard the 'evil version' gimmick I figured it'd be the normal fare of "corrupted" land and creatures, but the art dept. was really gone all out in making this set look downright terrifying.
Damn...I want both of those playmats...the faerie art is astonishing, and I have a thing for anything that even remotely says "I'm a specter". If the Flamekin can be bough, it'll be already sold in my books.
Unlike the MOR ones, actually both look really awesome (though still no White one, c'mon WoTC!!!) And I hope that at the Va. prerel the set up is still do two flights, get one mat free! (any answer StarCity lurkers?...)
Yes, the details are up on the events page. They're actually running 2 days in Richmond and 2 days in Roanoke this time around.
For every sealed flight after the first (at the same site, regardless of the day), you'll get a playmat of your choice, the prerelease foil and a $5 discount. After Morningtide, they were selling the leftovers online, so for the people wondering, I'm sure you can get some that way if you need to. I think they go for $20.
I'm surprised by this faerie art. Shadowmoor is not tribal, yet there is a considerably large number of faeries in the same place. This could just be a very large 'Clique", but I think that this will be a spell with a name like "Beacon of Oona" or something similar.
Both are gorgeous. I really hope my prerelease is gonna have these.
Any idea why they are only here and there though? It seems only half the prereleases got mats. Hell, I'll go on the Bay of E's and buy some if I need to. Best playmats since Incinerate.
are not official ones, no. they are another distributor incentive like the rubix cube, made by GTS this time if I recall correctly. They sent solicitation for them this week, but the images weren't working. Those are nice. They are made according to the prerelease and "official" event mat sizes as I recall from the email.
GTS also makes a mat for every set usually, such as the incinerate ones for tenth edition. They made them for LOR and MOR as well.

Yes, I worded that badly. The art I believe is official, but the mats themselves are not made by WOTC for any tournament.
Edit: Here's a tiny bit more information on these mats from the distributor's email. It appears at least 2different distributors have these, unless they're both owned by the same company perhaps, not sure.
*5 DIFFERENT PLAY-MATS!! That’s right!! We will
have 5 different play-mats to offer our retailers. 1
mat for each of the 5 Mana colors; Black, White, Red,
Green, && Blue.
*NEW THEME!! We are dubbing this product the
MANA-MAT! The art for our Mana-Mats are all LAND
IMAGES ( thus the phrase MANA ). None of this art has
been seen by retailers or players until NOW!!
*NEW SIZE!! Our Mana-Mats are 19” x 24”. This
matches the size issued by WotC for their Pre-Release
and Tournament events. Take a look at the World of
Warcraft play-mats…..our’s will be the same size.
*LIFE-COUNTER!! We have incorporated a
“life-counter” on the right side of our Mana-Mats.
This is a 2-token life-counter, and counts from 0 – 30.
I want the Flamekin one. Both are hot, but I so love that art for the Flamekin.
Anyone else think "Blazing Specter"?
Also, thanks for the link, I'm determined that Shadowmoor will be the set that I buy a playmat with art from! Just too many great pieces. The only gripe- UltraPro melding multiple images into one binder/playmat looks corny. I'd rather have one single awesome picture, instead of a lame collage effect. But both of these playmats are amazing (I might grab the Faerie one since I'm building the deck irl though :D).
I've been thinking that since I first saw the art. Glad I'm not the only one.
I'm definately getting the "Blazing Specter" playmat. I actually play Faeries, but I'm not a fan of their artwork most of the time. The specter, however, is just freakin' sweet and is so far my favorite art in the set.
I don't think the faerie mat is displaying mentor art. The orb says that there is an instance of 'swarm', and I'm prone to thinking that this is the art for that swarm-card. The faerie that appears to be leading the others, is in fact, part of a large group. If you look in the background to the lower left of her wing; the placement of a background faerie suggests that there is one who is in the same distance ahead of the throng as her. I think she's just the focal point of the picture.
As for the 'shaves down there comment', I'm thinking that they don't. Why? Because there is a very ambiguous patch of shadow on the focal-faerie. That shadow could be whatever you like, and I'm a pervert. You do the math.
Either way, the artwork is beautiful, and that flamekin riding on the bat-elemental is just doused in awesome sauce. Mmm. Can't wait for the prerelease! Can'tcan'tcan't.
Wow, the faeries have some... uh... low-cut pants. I don't know if I want to see that one in hi-res judging by the pink I'm seeing.
The flamekin one, however is the first playmat that I actually like. No odd colors, just simple black with a bit of red. There's too much going on in the faerie one, and the lorwyn mats had too many polarized colors.
I want something I can see my cards on easily. If I didn't, I'd just get a mat that had a bunch of land cards pasted on it so my opponent couldn't tell how much land I had out, or something.

Awesome find, we didn't have any of the land art yet. The moutain and Island ones look sick!
