I hope they continue to support this in all future sets, and adhere to a similar distributuion method... having to win, randomly get drawn, or participate in three qualifying events in one day keeps them somewhat "special", as not everyone will have one, but offers multiple methods to make it easy enough that if someone really WANTS to get one, they can.
Those are both really awesome. I haven't gotten around to buying a mat yet, because Id rather spend 13-15 dollars on cards then a mat. But once these come out I might buy one, because they are both really sweet.

so if i am that player do i get to sleep with his girlfriend ?
That one fearie seems to be kinda leading the others. Another "Mentor"?
I'm thinking yes. And the fact that it's all Faeries is interesting, considering it's all ...uhh... Scary looking red-black Flamekin guys on the other mentor. Perhaps this is the assistance tribal will get in SHM to help the set sync with Lorwyn better. Although it's just as likley they have colour pair or even monocolour abilities, or perhaps they aren't "lord" style creatures at all.
Really so little is known about mechanics right now past the skin layer. I'm thinking by the end of next week we'll have a better idea about this cycle. They generally examine at least one cycle during the previews and we know about the Demigod and his compatriots already.
If nothing else though, the new art though is unquestionably gorgeous to say the very least.

To me they look like they are bugs being drawn to the bright lights of a bug-zapper, or perhaps Oona's call... All fae in the picture seem to be looking up and are scattered all over (the background shows some higher than the foreground, which makes me think there is no visible leader)

yeah, i agree with this interpretation. i think they're answering Oona's call.
maybe a sorcery that let's you search out faeries or put them into play for alternate costs or something...

likely the bat dude is just a bat dude, not a mentor or lord. the Morning tide mats had nothing to do with each other so i doubt these will either
Wow, the art on those is very nice. Too bad I'm not into faeries, that is some of the best faerie art i've ever seen. I'm going to the Toronto prerelease for SHA this time around, and my bf says you can buy the mats there for $20 each.
That's better than the Boston one at any rate, since they've never been available at all when i've been there. The Boston one does usually have the t shirts though, which are awesome whereas the Toronto one doesn't apparently. You can't win for trying

..........
I was only referring to the Faeries, thus 'the new piece of art'. The Bat Rider we already have a name for, and Mentor is not a part of it, and no other Flamekin appear in it. Plus we have the Mentor for this race already from the Ministie puzzle..... there could be more than one per race, but it's unlikely.
Edit -
He was reffering to the puzzle on the minisite, not the bat dude.
Unlike the MOR ones, actually both look really awesome (though still no White one, c'mon WoTC!!!) And I hope that at the Va. prerel the set up is still do two flights, get one mat free! (any answer StarCity lurkers?...)
man the mats ard 2o each in fl and my wife is going to make me buy her the Faerie one. Thats a draft and a coke gone because wotc had to go and use cool art.

I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
why do you assume they have hair anywhere but their heads

Current Fallen Angel (Anson Maddocks art) Count:449!!!
I think it's entirely up to the TO what to do with them. Some people mention being able to buy them, some people say you get them for signing up for flights and other people said they've been able to win them. And then some events don't have them at all, like the Boston one -_-
Yeah, I'm thinking they do.
And man, do they ever go to great lengths to dress up eh? Showing as much skin as possible, makeup, hair done. Kinda like girls at the local bar, except not fat!
* rancored_elf thinks Elves and Faeries should be friends *
They usuall sell left over stock after the pre-release.
Hope this happens, I'd love to pick up a Faerie mat while I'm there. I have a gray snake skin thing but I never use it, so I'll probably just be wasting money, but they look so terrific.
Would have LOVED a Lurebound Scarecrow one even more though....
