I, and others, have said why. Most aggro decks won't care about lands once they get three, they want to topdeck more burn/creatures.
I get that, it's just with decks like that, only being able to cast 1ish threat a turn makes it a lot harder to overwhelm counterspells and the control decks. I love the card, and I think it will see play, but it is a two-edged sword.

But if you're beating down with a 4/4, 5/5, 6/6 and so on each turn, the control player will either destroy it or lose.
what? it's that good already?
It doesn't make it good. It just doesn't fit red's pie attributes.
I think there's a mistake with the Crusher. It seems unthinkable for a red 3 for 3/3 with a decent ability on top.
The reason it is that cheap is because it is a double edged sword: Yes, it thins your deck out of probably useless land but the creature itself is easy to respond to. It doesn't have trample, it has no protection, it doesn't have haste, etc. Here is the worse case situation:
You play the Crusher, then your opponent casts pacify (or equivalent). Gratz, you'll never get another land ever again.
Every color has an easy method of dealing with this card in a way that hurts you far more then losing a creature would normally be: Pacify, Lignify, Tap Effects (blue has a ton), Lots of tiny throw-away creatures, regeneration (blockers that never go away and effectively neutralize it).
This card encourages (and in ways requires) heavily aggressive play. It is like running along an edge of a cliff: One rock at the wrong time will tip you up and send you off the cliff.
I think the best (or at least a better bet) would be Crucible of Worlds. As has been mentioned...that negates the "drawbacks" of both the neo-Bolt and the Crusher (as you won't be "stuck" at 3 land).
That..and since he just keeps dumping land...there's GOT to be a way to make a combo deck out of him. Just need some sort of protection and a way to give him haste. He also has some fun synergy with Detrivore.

i wouldn't worry too much cuase the giant is the walking threat laready. if they can kill the giant then they allow you to draw lands to cast your other stuff again anyway

Lignify would remove the card's text and when was the last time a repeatable tapper was used competitively?

the combo:
4 crushers in play and one land dumped net you 4 power haha
If they pacify your giant, you will never draw another land.
I would play a 1RR enchantment that let me skip drawing lands+baited a kill spell in sideboard against control. The fact that against decks without pacifisms (which is pretty much everyone) he's also a 3/3 smasher is icing.
He has synergy with Lash Out, Greater Gargadon, and Adder-Staff Boggart, all of which are cards I'm already running in RDW. He has synergy with the new bolt from this thread, which will also probably make it in. This guy is an absolute house, and I will be picking my set up early before they hit 8 bucks each.
It doesn't make it good. It just doesn't fit red's pie attributes.
you don't get it. i was responding to the post. the reaction it generated was like that of 1st pact of negation (that required you to pay cancel mana) when it was 1st rumored. too good to be true.
I think we're underrating Release The Ants. As has been mentioned, it's very much a Fireball for a little cheaper (and allowing your opponent to scry). Once you've already clashed or scryed or Kinship'd (remember, it's an instant, so you can use it during your upkeep after the reveal) so you know you've got something big on top, you can turn R into dealing one as much as you like, not to mention the excellent synergy with Entangling Trap and Rebellion of the Flamekin.
Wow that giant is going to be awesome in constructed. Just don't play anything above 3 mana, and you've turned him into a better trained armadon that makes you draw only gas. I'll definitely be getting 4.

actually, like i said, you can even play sunrise soverieng with enough stinkdrinker daredevils and the red banneret should also help whatever he cheapens
Ateneo10: Is it really important to reply to every second post on this thread? Please bro, just have your say and move on... this is how threads get off-topic.
And like I said, I'm not in the mood for that tonight.

i publicly apologize for being overly eager about that one card
[quote=Hydrokinesis;/comments/5261242]Greetings all! Here's hoping you've all fully recovered from New years and the rumor madness which has been the last few days or so...
Are you about ready to get thrown back in?
... ...
Thought so, shall we?
Shard Volley R Instant As an additional cost to play Shard Volley, sacrifice a land. Shard Volley deals 3 damage to target creature or player. “Let the mountain’s teeth pierce our oppressors” Common
Um, wow. Fireblast meets Lightning Bolt. Few spells that read "R, Deal 3 damage to target creature or player" have difficulty seeing play, and this one has a very minor drawback. It looks like either a card that didn't fit in Time Spiral or a Core Set plant, though. Definitely going to be an inclusion in a lot of decks out there, and makes Dragonstorm that little bit better by ousting the weaker and, in that deck less effective, Shock.
Release the Ants 1R Instant Release the Ants deals 1 damage to target creature or player. Clash with an opponent. If you win, return Release the Ants to its owner’s hand. Uncommon.
Uncommon? Phew - from the spoiler it looked like a rare. As recursive pinging insects go, I'd rather have Brood of Cockroaches. Clash isn't a reliable enough buyback condition to make these cards attractive, Wonder what the common version will do, though, since this looks like one of those red vertical cycles.
Countryside Crusher 1RR Creature – Giant Warrior At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library. If it’s a land card, put it into your graveyard and repeat this process. Whenever a land card is put into your graveyard from anywhere, put a +1/+1 counter on Countryside Crusher. 3/3 Rare.
Is this cost correct? This is exceptionally efficient for a red creature, and the self-milling isn't much of a drawback (plus you just know this is going to be abused to death in Shadowmoor - black *red* dredge decks??!) Solid fit for Goblin builds as well, and the guaranteed +1/+! (at least) a turn is pretty decisive. I was right - Taurean Mauler is never going to be played. Not sure it will make Giants compete, but a very strong card.
Note the synergy between Shard Volley and Countryside Crusher... nice.
I have to admit, I hadn't, but both are sufficiently good individually that they'll be spending a fair bit of time together.
Implausible, but possible. And hilarious. I'mma fling a 43/43 at you, and then gain 43 life, mmkay?

nice stuff. shard volley will be a staple in red decks for years to come. its really really close to Fireblast in terms of its role as a finisher. its such a natural fit into decks like Sadin's Rg Greater Goyf deck.
note that Countryside Crusher makes it very very hard to draw new lands, so there's a considerable amount of risk with the card. very aggressive decks probably won't really care about not getting drawing lands (in fact it might be seen as a benefit) but the card is definitely a gambit.
Crucible of Worlds has been mentioned - Dakmor Salvage is another option. Lands in the graveyard can be accessible. It's a drawback, but probably not a fatal one.
Constructed:
Shard Volley might see play in Block, not anywhere else though.
Crusher is good at top curve of RDW or Boros, deny all lands and draw burn, plus Devastating Dreams anyone?
Limited:
Shard Volley, removal is always a king, though not as good as Lash Out, Ending.
Release the Ants, I believe this one is better than Needle Drop. I'm ok with First Volley, why not this one.
Crusher and Shard Volley might give enough fuel for a mono-red or mono-red w/ goyf aggro/burn deck to take place. Incinerate, Rift Bolt, Shard, Shock/Tarfire and Browbeat.

I hear reading is TECH. If the card is a land, you REPEAT the process. (Thereby clearing ALL the lands off the top of the deck.)
