I would have preferred either the original art or the 7th/8th art, since the original art's way too hard to get black bordered, and the 7th/8th art has never been printed black-bordered. We just had the Ravnica Bird black-bordered too, which doesn't help. Such a shame...

Hey hey hey now. There are still some people out there, even in our community, that think BoP were out because of that statement they said awhile ago. So this 'spoiler' of today can really make some people happy/angry. Granted, every serious player knew this, even ones without comps, but oh well.
Take a look at all the cards Ed Beard Jr. did in base set and compare to the cards getting new art or other art. Notice anything? They have removed all trace of him from Core set.
That's still 52 cards left to reveal! I'd say there's still a solid chance there will be at least one surprise rare posted soon.
I can tell youre new here before checking your post count. Wizards would sooner preview a basic land then lambast the rumor sources of this site for spoiling cards out of context before they preview something we dont already know from a preview THEY GAVE US in another of their official spoilers.

Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled
Thanks to chaostheory90 for finding this quiz for me
I think they should have done new art for BoP this time around. If they wanted to excite or wow the fans, they would update cards such as birds. I'm actually not a fan of any previous BoP art and I HATE the Ravnica birds. Why would they print the most confusing BoP art for new players in Xth? New player says, "Why the F*$% is there a tropical bird in a city? That makes no sense. But whoa, this guys like eating himself while his skeleton eats his toes, sweet!!!"
Lol, true, ravnica's art doesn't make any sense since the bird is flying arround ravnica-like builds. Birds of PARADISE, it should be flying with a beauty sunshine or something, ffs.

You do know theres a thriving Parrot population in Central Park in New York City right?
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
Doesn't that old artist's contract thing prevent them from reprinting old art? (Though CSP theme decks have reprints I suppose... or was the dispute from before then...)
not everyone lives in New York ya know. There's actually an exotic bird population (can't remember the species) on Telegraph Hill (I think it's telegraph hill) in San Francisco.

Nope, they dont, I dont either, live in Southern California and never been further east then Arizona.
I know about the San Fransico birds too, everyone is trying to keep people from feeding them, I find that funny.
Anyways, my point was that Exotic birds can and do live in large cities all the time.

I already knew about birds, but I was curious about which art would be used, and I must say I'm a bit disappointed. I was really hoping they'd use the original art, or even the art from 7th edition. I really hate the Ravnica art for Birds.

The Original art would have been hot.
I know it looks kinda bad, but I just love it, and Black Bordered??? So good.
I agree, I dont mind the Xth symble, but I do like Ravnicas a litte better, plus I have a foil Rav Birds to go with my other rav birds, my 7th birds and my revised/unlimited (not sure exactly) birds.

It's not just the physical setting.
Birds of Paradise were supposed to be rare creatures in Ravnica due to the overpopulation of once-forested areas (or something like that).
Now the 10th Edition Birds will be rarer than the Ravnica one (I know Ravnica had 306 or so cards in the set, 20 of which are Basic Lands??, so if rarity distribution were equal that gives Ravnica 95 or so Rares, compared to, what, 121 Rares in 10th Edition?). Isn't that odd? The "reforestation" that gave the Birds a new home will still make them near extinct. I guess they just need a year or so to breed to get their numbers back up.

This actually is big news to me. As now I know that the bop pic in 10th sucks something hard!!! Now I'm just gonna go buy ravnica ones. Nice one WotC this really is a BAD BAD call IMHO. This set best have something awesome in it now as Id rather buy a Rav booster then a 10th booster if im hunting for BoP.

How many Ravnica packs could get you a Legacy Weapon or a Pithing Needle or a Troll Ascetic?
But if you are looking for birds of Paradise, it would be better to buy them online, they are like 8 bucks each or less if you look around enough.

It could just be me, but I don't think that wizards should cater just to the hardcore fanatics who scour the internet for any scrap of information (no mater how questionable) about what will be in the next set. I'm personally getting sick and tired of people mouthing off about how such and such card isn't new to us because we have known/number crunched that card's existance. Why should wizards give a damn about what we have on our spoiler and why should wizards base it's previews on it like what some of you apparently expect them to do?
I far as I'm concerned, it's perfectly reasonable for casual/newer players to use the offical site as their main source of information. Those sort of players arn't being lazy or willfully ignorant. They just arn't as deeply into the game as the average poster is here and that's just fine. Those are the players whom Wizards is targeting with these previews, not us. If more people could just accept this, I think there would be alot less grief when dealing with.
The trouble with this is that in the Inquest article that Wizards had "Offically" spoiled their own cards, BoP was one of them. That's what the big problem is. With several of these that they've previewed on their sight, they're repeating those Inquest spoilers.
The issue of that is that they care more about the Inquest readers then the ones to their own site. It would be very logical of them to post a link saying "here's what he previewed to Inquest" and send them to that website. This is horrible marketing both for Inquest and Wizards.
I don't like this pic (prefer the alpha art), and it's been in black boarder before. It doesn't make it as sought out if it's something that been in two sets before with art and black bordered.
Way to be Wizards. I'm not asking for cards that we know of from our internet friends, but please be wiser about what cards you've leaked before to "offical" sites. Are we going to get Beacon of Destruction on Monday now?
You do know theres a thriving Parrot population in Central Park in New York City right?
Stranger yet, as hard as it may be to believe, there are actually cities in the tropics. Even in Australia and New Guinea (where birds of paradise are found, though admittedly not always in cities). In any case, the BoP in this (and all previous art for the card) isn't actually a real bird and doesn't resemble a real BoP in the slightest, so it can live wherever it wants.
I always liked the Rav art and only have one Rav BoP, so I'm not unhappy with this. I did quite like the 7th art though (and it's the one I don't have), so it would have been nice to that in black border. They really need to stop pinching our flavour text, too - first Cancel's vanished (certainly not for space reasons), and now this (which actually explained what the bird was doing in the city). At least here they have the excuse that they wanted reminder text - then again, if you're a new player and the first creature with flying you ever pick up is a BoP, you're in the lucky minority.
Doesn't that old artist's contract thing prevent them from reprinting old art? (Though CSP theme decks have reprints I suppose... or was the dispute from before then...)
They aren't prevented from reprinting old art. The old contracts let the artists keep the rights to the art and granted the artist royalties based on either the actual profit or profit-making potential of the set the art is reprinted in. This is why they paid extra to reprint Ice Age art in the Coldsnap precons. This is why they love reprinting old art on promo cards. This is why Fifth Edition introduced new art for everything before Mirage except iconic cards like *** and BoP, and Seventh Edition finished off all remaining royalty-encumbered art. This is why they couldn't reprint the Alpha Birds art.
The 7th/8th Birds art, though, was fair game and would've looked far better in Tenth than the Pelican in a City art. Someone should write to Ask Wizards to find out why they chose the inferior art.

IIRC an article somewhere stated that Tenth foils would not have reminder text, and in some cases would have restored or new flavor text. Expect the Tenth foil BoP to look just like the Ravnica one, except for the expansion symbol.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
I'm happy they're using the Rav artwork. The bird itself is of extremely graceful design and its plummage lush and evocative. I love it when I see a rare and beautiful bird in the city. This summer there have been alot more Cardinals than usually and even a rare Blue Jay here and there. Anyway, I'm very happy my playset is safe for another 2 years.
Nothing new.

Battle of Wits: Remove from core set
Birds of Paradise: Different art
Dusk Imp: New art
Loxodon Mystic: New art
Stampeding Serow: Used Stampeding Wildebeast instead
Stinkweed Imp and the few Time shifted cards are the last we'll see from him it seems.
Why are they previewing cards that are pretty much base set staples, granted some of these have been absent from time to time. What next, Island?
