I've attached the dossier from the recent magic arcana. I saw the weird concept art on the front, and it seems to be a new race in Lorwyn. Anyone else notice this? Think it is important?
PS: If I'm wrong, please remove this.
Edit: in the arcana the guy does say that he worked on Jelly, which is the third set in Lorwyn, but if there is a new race, it probably spans the whole block.
I would have never seen that unless you pointed it out. I couldn't tell you what it is though. Maybe they are going to bring the DROW into Magic(that would be sooooo freakin' awesome!
I dunno, it kinda looks like something from the Selesnyan Conclave...
EDIT: where does it say he worked on Jelly?
"Expansions or projects you've worked on: I've worked on the Jelly style guide and have done various random fantasy illustration work in the past."
I was trying to think of something to counter your selesnya correlation, but it occurs to me that this guy doesn't remind me of anything, yet seems completely grokkable as being part of Magic to me.
I saw the one art and immediately thought, "that looks like some kind of Ninja Squirrel!".
and then i read this in the arcana:
"Education: NBCCD Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. I took graphic design and illustration. During the same period I also learned most of my ninja/kung fu skills."

No, it's a spartan squirrel.
Must be this (Edit):
Leonidas, King of Squirrels GG
Legendary Creature - Squirrel Lord
First Strike
Sparta 0 (If you discard this card, you may play it for its Sparta cost instead of putting it into your graveyard.)

When you discard it, the opponent will read it and say "but this is madness..."
Those legs and feet are really disturbing. My first thoughts were also of a satyr, yet even that seems off. The ear looks elven, but after seeing the cover to the newest Inquest, I see a resemblance to merfolk as well. Perhaps the new merfolk can transform their tales into legs and this guy is in mid-transformation? Does that seem too far-fetched? http://media-dominaria.cursecdn.com/attachments/42/124/635032482349996513.jpg
I think its a cross between a merfolk and an elf. In fact, I'm willing to make an outlandish argument and say that Lorwyn will be a tribal block, but a SpliceTribal Block.
That's definately a merfolk, judging by the picture we saw in the Inquest preview. Love that they managed to find a way to get them back (by making them amphibious, kinda like the atlanteans in the Marvel Universe).
The only similarity I see between this and the merfolk is long ears, and anythings could have long ears... I don't think that this proves it is a merfolk at all. Since when to merfolk have fur?
Edit: actually, looking at the close-up, they do look pretty similar... maybe it is a merfolk after all...

^Hmm, Anurids have already been done before, but they were a pretty cool design...
As for this art, I agree with the guy who said it might be a satyr. That or a Werebear-esque Elf Beast...
Oh, and yay for concrete Lorwyn info!

Too bad it is so small we can't make much out of it.
To back this up he says he worked on the Jelly styleguide. Jelly being the set after Morningtide.

Well, it wouldn't be on a card, 'cuz it is just concept work.

And It's also one of the earliest examples of a creature with Bushido. I wonder if they'll errata it to Frog Samurai.

There is an imposter among us...
btw wooooo tribal
My thoughts extactly why? The only thing I could think of is Daniel Gelon was the artist for this card so it's not the card itself I am guessing.
Well, I agree who said it's an Elf/Merfolk. That was my first thought.
