2: Probably Hill Giant, but I'm thinking Brute Force, due to it's similarities to the Planar Chaos art
7: I think Longbow Archers, but it doesn't really seem to be art for a white card
9: Bog Imp(see twisted trees in background)
10: Prodigal Pyromancer, thought that was pretty obvious
12: Rain of Blades. Those swords are going up, where the hell are they going to go??
15: I was going to say Castle, but people seem to be saying watchtower, so that seems likely
17: Unsummon, Repel, Temporal Eddy, it's a blue bounce spell
18: Northern Paladin, we've had southern confirmed, they make a set
Every single one of those dont fall in to the D-H letter groupings.
Im impressed.
This is for D-H cards, so none of those work, good guesses though.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
I don't think I've posted this yet, but I think the Crocodile art might be Deathmark. I know there isn't a "mark" in the picture (that I can see, anyway), but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the art (as it appears to be a Croc in the act of dying).
(For the record, I'm guessing that's the three man-lands, the knows cards, plus 7) Femeref Archers, 11) Fugitive Wizard, 12) Holy Day OR Glorious Anthem, 13) Hex, 14) Holy Strength (or other white Aura), 17) Dark Banishing, 18 ) Honor Guard, 20) Some Flowstone spell)
i'm calling #17 Dark Banishing , 'cause c'mon it's banishing into thin air, the background is plain black, and something is sucking up the life energy of the guy, or it could be Drain life...also fits in that
I searched too, and Devour in Shadow seems fitting, especially since most Mirrodin arts would get new art.
I read this and said "Oooooooooooooooooo." Like that.
Good one. I like, I like.
Also, thanks Darkon. I couldn't see the hands before. Unfortunately, can't think of a card that would be "flames in pockets."
Sparkmage Apprentice uses... sparks. This guy seems to enjoy the "SURPRISE!!! FLAMING DEATH!!!" aspect of everyday life. Uhh...
Hmm. Didn't notice the skeletal nature of the croc, either.
But.. it's just bony in the middle, it's not a Dross Crocodile. Dross Croc is a Zombie Crocodile. Take a look at the white trails in the scenery. I can't tell whether that's smoke, or some trail going off into the distance. The croc is either huge, or those mountains are very far away.
Hey, but what about Elite Archers? Why shouldn't they be Elite and not Femeref?
I really wish that art of the game pieces isn't Hex, because it looks like a really sweet Black or Blue manipulation card.

Hey, but what about Elite Archers? Why shouldn't they be Elite and not Femeref?
The thing that really seals the deal (for me) for the cards being Femeref archers...is that the art looks straight out of Mirage.
The Femeref flavor is captured in the art, and the idea of 'Elite Archers' brings about arts similar to the ones we have had in the past.
Also, Femeref isn't as terrible/waste of a rare slot.
I just read over the Inquest article online, and it says that Jarvis went over EVERY art, and decided what would and wouldn't be kosher. Obviously some cards were too old, and needed new art, but some, like Root Maze were kept. (God forbid they scrap a Guay art )
The art of this core is going to be great, and I am not seeing any indication otherwise.

2. Giant Strength
This doesn’t look like a creature card as much as it looks like an action card.
3. Ghitu Encampment
Dead-on.
4. Howling Mine
Confirmed.
5. The Hive
What else could this be?
6. Faerie Conclave
Dead-on.
7. Femeref Archers
Others have explained, why rehash?
8. Gaea’s Herald
Confirmed
9. Ebon Drake
There is little doubt that this critter isn't an imp. Imps are generally goblinoid in body. This is clearly a drake and based on the critter and its surroundings, this one made the most sense.
10. Fiery Gambit
I really have no idea what this card is. What I can tell you is that the guy is running and multiple flaming arrows(?) are shooting from his cloak/coat and in Fiery Gambit the figure is manipulating multiple fire rings. Neither picture makes sense so that's my crap shoot. However, in response to others sighting Deflection, the flaming arrows are not being deflected, they are originating from within his cloak/coat. Furthermore, redirection was moved from to resulting in Deflection being reinvented as Shunt.
Responding to all the Fireslinger-sayers, why would WotC include both the Prodical Pyromancer and Fireslinger in the same Core set? Also, please note the guy in the picture is running and lifting a cloak/coat, he's not slinging anything.
11. Fugitive Wizard
Sneaky little wizard…
12. Holy Day
This was the only card I could find that really fit the picture and began with a letter between D and through H.
13. Hex
Someone in this thread exclaimed the card could not be Hex since the board shapes were pentagonal. The game board depicts the five colors of mana and the color wheel or more accurately the color pentagram. The hand and the six pieces being destroyed… looks like Hex to me.
14. Divine Transformation
Note the feathers forming on the figure.
15. Forbidding Watchtower
Dead-on. The art in this picture resembles Watchtower more than Exile.
16. Fire Breathing
Confirmed.
17. Dark Banishing
Looks like someone being sucked into the Abyss, but since the Abyss isn’t an option here Dark Banishing looks appropriate.
18. Field Marshal
There are so many possibilities, only they all fall outside the parameters of D through H. There is an awful lot of in the art, but it seems to be a card. It lacks action found in enchantments, instants and sorceries, so I feel it is a critter. Looking at the picture, it has a very Mirage feel to it, but the only one I found that seemed to fit was Femeref Knight, though it's extremely unlikely since it has flanking. I also wonder if the Lion emblems has any meaning. Field Marshal seems as good a possibility as any. Had this been D through I, my guess might have been Intrepid Hero.
19. Dross Crocodile
I thought this would be Emperor Crocodile at first, but note the zombie-like aspect on the left side of the crocodile. Dross Crocodile is the only crocodile zombie.
20. Earth Elemental
Doesn’t really fit with the Flowstone Giant to me. Looks more like a much needed update to the Earth Elemental picture.
9. Ebon Drake There is little doubt that this critter isn't an imp. Imps are generally goblinoid in body. This is clearly a drake and based on the critter and its surroundings, this one made the most sense.
How is this creature not an imp? It certainly isn't drake-like at all. Drakes are smaller dragons. This is a winged humanoid with a pointed nose and in all likelihood black in color--hence, an imp. I really think this is Foul Imp but it could be any imp in this alphabetical section.
9. Ebon Drake There is little doubt that this critter isn't an imp. Imps are generally goblinoid in body. This is clearly a drake and based on the critter and its surroundings, this one made the most sense.
Isn't #9 goblinoid?
And Drakes in Magic have only one pair of limbs...
13. Hex Someone in this thread exclaimed the card could not be Hex since the board shapes were pentagonal. The game board depicts the five colors of mana and the color wheel or more accurately the color pentagram. The hand and the six pieces being destroyed… looks like Hex to me.
I counted 7 pieces being destroyed- also, the "lightning" seemed blue. Could it be upheval, wash out, evacuation or rebuild? I'm hoping for evacuation.
P.S. if you look at the bottom of the statues being destroyed- you see some old glyphs- i forget which ones.
This is just my opinion- feel free to discuss.
Could also be Longbow Archers. It is from Visions and MaRo made a big deal in today's article about white creatures having reach.
You see, the thing is, Longbow Archers isn't a card. Try actually clicking on that link.
Then take a look at the art again.
Also... D TO H. 'L' is not an element of [D, H].
The most succinct argument for why a flying thing isn't a drake: If it has forelimbs, it's not a drake. Drakes don't have forelimbs, just hindlimbs and wings. Just take a look at every Drake ever printed.
That creature does look Goblinoid. Like some horrible Goblin Imp. But there are no Goblin Imps, are there?

This is an illusion, actually, because if you examine the black shard next to the white piesce, you can see a shadowy rementant of another toy, like to all of you non-artists, a ghosty. I am not yet to identify the object, but if you have any suggecstions on what it might be, please post!
P.S. it might actually be hex- b/c the only piece still standing is the black one. This also refers to the fact that it is in fact, a black card. You see, the wizard whom is casting this spell did not destroy the black queen

Well, if your saying that little bit that came off another peice is actually the remnents of a piece then you would have to say this art has 9 pieces being destroyed.
You have one above the red piece, one between the black and Blue piece and the one to the right of the White piece.
Also, note that the piece to the far left is just starting to smoke, as if this spell is just taking shape, and the pieces directly under the hands are being effected first. so I dont believe the spell has even finished its effect yet.
I dont know if its Hex, though I wouldnt mind it if it was, but Im pretty sure that this art only shows 6 pieces total and they are all in the process of being destroyed.

Why on earth would you actually want Hex to be in there if it's avoidable? Heck, as far as the art goes it seem to be pointing towards some sort of selective destruction (based on color?). Hands destroying stuff doesn't really(/hopefully) point to hex =/

The most succinct argument for why a flying thing isn't a drake: If it has forelimbs, it's not a drake. Drakes don't have forelimbs, just hindlimbs and wings. Just take a look at every Drake ever printed.
I will concede that most drakes lack independent fore-limbs, but check out the following art and you will find that drakes don't always have just hind legs.
Heck, it appears that Iridescent Drake has no limbs other than wings. It would seem that even though drakes usually lack fore limbs, its not a concrete rule.
I looked over the imp type and none have such an elongated neck. The closest imp to having a neck like the picture is Pit Imp, toon art not withstanding.
Attention blind people: The piece on the far left of number 13 is not being destroyed. That piece, like the intact piece in front, is black. This leads me to believe that it's something with "nonblack" in it. Hand of Death fits the art, however I can't think of any problem with Dark Banishing being played at instant speed that would necessitate the Hand. The other problem with Hand is that the art appears to be for a sweeper, not a one-for-one spell. Given all this, I'm going to guess that it's Dregs of Sorrow. Not only does it sweep nonblack creatures, but the Seventh Edition art for Dregs also has a guy shooting vapor out of his hand.
20. Earth Elemental
Doesn’t really fit with the Flowstone Giant to me. Looks more like a much needed update to the Earth Elemental picture.
Very nice summary. My only comment is re #20. We think (though I forget the rationale) that the cycle of vanilla creatures from Future sight is in. The red one, Fomori Nomad, is a 4/4 for 4R, and I just can't see a 4/5 for 3RR in the same set.
I don't think this card can be Hex. Hex had a clear symbolism in its original picture. Six figures, and the famed hand of death to wipe them out. This artwork shows 6 figures in different states of destruction. There is some question if the number does, indeed, stop at 6.
From Left to Right:
1) The Dark Blue (?, I can't tell colors real well) figure looks complete, barely covered in wisps of "magic".
2) The Green creature also looks complete, slightly hovering above the board.
3) The small, red figure has two objects floating above it. IMO, they share the same strand of light as the fig, so they must be from it.
4) The Black Queen. Same as the small, red figure. Notice both haven't been disturbed at this point.
5) Behind the Blue Base. Now things get tricky. It looks to me there might have been a figure here at one point, and it has dematerialized into a puff of smoke, as the light seems to rest behind the mostly destroyed figure.
6) The Blue base. A piece mostly destroyed.
7) The White piece. Again, in the midst of destruction.
8) Far right. It does look like there was something there, but it has been destroyed.
So, if we have more than 6, the spell can't be Hex. I started looking for more clues.
What if this art shows not just destruction, but also creation? If you split the board in half from bottom-right to top left, it looks as though the upper-right side is being removed from the game (via destruction or some other magic) while the other side is being placed. If so, these pieces are being carefully placed, as all are standing and are dead-center to their area.
The darkness in the background tells me this is a black card. The game in question resembles chess, a game of the mind. In Magic, this is represented by your hand of cards. Only one black card would totally manipulate one's hand by manipulating the pieces (cards) that one holds.
This number 10 is intriguing me now... the rest seem fairly obvious, save a couple, but 10 has good arguments for fireslinger, grim lavamancer, grapeshot, flameshot, guerrilla tactics, or deflection. This could be tricky...
It can't be Grapeshot, as Storm is simply not a Core Set mechanic.
I highly doubt it's Fireslinger, since the Pyromancer is gonna be in the set. Flameshot seems the best idea to me.
Second of all, why would they reprint field marshal after printing it in coldsnap? I know they could, but it wouldn't make much sense. It's not much of a core set card to make wizards reach that much. Stuff like prodigal pyromancer makes sense; they are obviously reaching for a change in some of the core set staples, plus it seems like a core set card. So does honor guard. Field marshal doesn't.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Every single one of those dont fall in to the D-H letter groupings.
Im impressed.

My guess: #13 is Head Games
I highly doubt it's Fireslinger, since the Pyromancer is gonna be in the set.
Flameshot seems the best idea to me.
Flowstone Blade, I'm almost positive. Just look at the shape.
They're gonna reprint it to help complete the tribal lord cycle with Goblin King, Elvish Champion, Lord of the Undead, and Lord of Atlantis.
