nah, i think the extra cards are 90% garunteed to be a last cycle of the 7 guilds from RAV and GP, in addition to the DIS guilds, so that in DIS there is a cycle of cards containing all the guilds (not all the colors, but all the color combo's..)
i believe that this would make the set much more diverse while bringin back the guilds from RAV and GP we will start to miss in DIS..

I'd say it's about as likely as a cat surviving 10 min in a microwave.
That's the case for the first and often second set in a block, but the last set usually gets a fact sheet right after the first set is legal... just like is the case now. For example, we won't know much about the first set in the next block for a while, probably. Then again, sometimes they make us wait a long time to know what a set is even called... and sometimes we see the symbol and logo months in advance.
It could be a change in the rules rather than an exception to them. Maybe they're selling less of third-sets, and want to compensate by adding more cards to them.
(On the other hand, they could be reprinting the five Snow-Covered Lands, and adding another ten 'bonus' cards to make up for the possibility of getting that kind of 'junk' in a pack...)

Why do Ravnica guilds have 16 gold cards each and Guildpact guilds only have 15? Not that it makes a big difference, but the number should be the same. --Davide Azevedo
It makes a tiny bit of difference, Davide, and personally I wish the numbers were the same. When we crunched and re-crunched the number of gold cards that each guild could support in Ravnica, we did so with Guildpact (and Dissension) in mind—we wanted to keep the guilds the same size throughout the block and tried to adjust accordingly. We arrived at a number of gold rares (including hybrid) that we thought we could live with for each guild (7 in RAV).
When Guildpact was handed over from design, it also had seven gold rares per guild, plus the cycle of five Nephilim. The lead developer felt that there weren't enough single-colored rares in the set (as each guild also had a rare land and a rare artifact), and that the seventh gold rare in each guild was less important to the set than the Nephilim. So each guild is down a rare in this set.
We avoided this problem in Dissension by making the set 15 cards larger. Each guild has seven gold rares in that set.
I kinda like the nephilim, from what I've seen so far. But I agree, maybe they should have been put into Coldsnap or something, instead of messing up the guilds.
That doesn't explain the +15 cards at all. If they had to cut gold rare guild cards for nephilims and this set has +15 cards so that doesn't happen again, it mean that DIS will also have some extra cycle of rares.
that only states that there will be 7 gold rares for radkos azorious and simic in [dis]...it did not mention if each of the guildpact guilds will be getting an extra rare to make up for getting shafted

That's exactly what I think, too. I will devour them if they actually cut a nifty rare from Orzhov in favor of some 1/1 for 4 different colored mana :tongue3:
I think some of you are jumping to conclusions, because there's really not a lot of info there. First off, if the problem was "There's not enough room for a 5-card gold rare cycle AND all the guild cards in a small set" then that's solved by...not printing another 5-card gold rare cycle in Dissension. The only options would be 3-color or 5-color creatures, which would be a strange decision after the Nephilim.
So if you take out the Nephilim, now there's plenty of room for all the guild rares in Dissension. You even have 2 extra slots for mono-colored rares.
There's still no explanation for the other 15 cards at all. They could be anything. Nowhere does it say "3 of those extra 15 cards are part of a cycle."
I couldve swore we had this diagram when Rav was coming out and two people made diagrams like this.
Its nothing new really.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Not to be mean or anything, but that is a pretty generic demonic look to it. There are several different games and books with demons that look just like that. The thing from Lord of the Rings looks an awful lot like that

Logically, the rare that was cut from each guild would have been whichever one they felt was the worst one. (Not lowest power-wise, but worst in general.) Think of whatever guild rare you like the least in each guild. Now imagine a worse one. That's the one they cut.

Well yeah. GWs Bloodthirster (and a lot of their other stuff) is just cribbed straight from JRR.
Rakdos is a Balrog, which is basically a 'generic' demon in today's genre fantasy.
(for further humour, head over to the Tolkien forums and watch them argue over whether or not the Balrog had wings )

You're right. There was an entire thread for it started by the creator Mantra here http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=22097 (Personally I like the look of Leviathan's version on page two. It's much cleaner.)

At least the 180 card set is explained.
I would have liked them to be pushed back even farther actually. If the Nephilim were printed in a non-Ravinica multicolour-crazy environment they would have been a lot more powerful. Powerful Nephilims and guild balance would have made more people happy. I want my 8/8 Protection from white for UBRG >.<

Ya, fantasy comes to us from Tolkien. But the similarities to the bloodthirster are closer than that of the balrog.
Hooved hind legs, Black and Red as the main colours, chains and skulls. If this was in a GW magazine, I wouldn't think twice that this was anything but a Bloodthirster.
As for Winged Balrogs... I've heard that there more than one type of balrog, and that some have wings and some do not. It is debatable as to whether the Moria Balrog indeed had wings.

I really think these 15 cards are going to really signifigant, I mean, to they don't throw off the set numbers for nothing...
