OMFG!!! Magic rings??? Thats truly ridiculous. No offense... it's a card game, not the freakin superbowl!!! I recently won city champions in football. I have a ring and it serves as a reminder of the hard work and physical pain it took us to get there. Magic is cool when you win money, but rings are waaaaay too much like wannabe sports prizes.
I disagree. You're talking about people that have won hundreds of thousands of dollars playing Magic, there's nothing wrong w/ them having a HoF ring. That's like saying that the WSoP shouldn't have bracelets.

But a ring is just gaudy. It would be cooler if, like the invitational winners, they had their own card.
(I predict that the next headline on misetings will involve the words "bling bling" and "Finkel".)
I'm not sure about them. I mean, I think the concept of a HoF ring is cool, but I don't like these for 2 reasons:
1. They're really ugly. (They could be so much cooler and feature the wearers favorite card art or something similar.)
2. They're really big. IMO, these rings shouldn't resemble Superbowl rings. THey should be smaller as you're going to be playing Magic while you wear them.

“Should I be worried? He does seem dangerously cool, like a young Lando Calrissian, with a dream.”
They are cool, but I must agree then they are really big and probally not what you want to have on as your trying to play magic. Honestly, it reminds me of something that some hardcore rapper would wear.
I can just imagine the scene as Jon Finkel arrives at the pro tour in a black limo with secret service cars all around and as he gets out of the car with a ring on each hands finger he starts rapping to his legion of screaming fans "I'm Jon Finkel yo 'dats my name I'm a Magic playa and I got da bling. You be going down because of my mastacore or maybe because of my famous lore. I'm unbeaten yo I'm the champ, don't mess wit' me or I'll mow you down flat."

INdeed, Magic "Bling" seems very unusual. Cardfloppers all over the world might start wearing hats with the sticker still left on!!!
Let the superbowl/football players have their own ring. I swear, WOTC is trying to make magic into a sport. First pro player cards, now super bowl style rings. Newsflash... MAGIC ISNT A SPORT. Most magic players don't even like people who play sports.
As a football playing and magic playing person, i find it insulting when one tries to cross into the other.

I disgress.. Magic is a sport.. reasons:
1. You play to have fun (you do that in sports)
2. You have to practice to become better (you do that in sports)
3. You have to have the best equipment (cards) to be at the top of your game (you do that in sports)
4. The Pro Tour was once on ESPN2 (the TOTAL SPORTS network)
5. People play for a lot of money (they do that in sports)
6. some people are better than others (that happens in sports)
Just because it doesn't involve physical (well i'd disagree there there is some physical exerction when you play magic) "traditional" sports.. doesn't make it not a sport. (and yes.. magic has balls.. making it a sport)
ALSO: NFL had a card game.. its a sport.
and also judging people (most magic player don't like people who play sports) just because they play a card game.. doesn't mean most (or even any) care if people play sports and magic or not magic at all.
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

@uzishra; Magic isnt a sport and doesnt deserve sport-type rings.
And Im not judging, I'm speaking from expierience:

Well, maybe it works as a medieval wax seal maker for letters, maybe that would look nice, otherwise, I'd hide it I think. I don't really associate magic with rings or something. It's a mind game (or sport, but let's leave that in the middle) primarily, like Chess, and I don't see Kasparov wearing any flashy rings. Like others suggested, a card of their own design would be most fitting, and I think the players themselves would probably like that as well. (slightly off topic: I've always found it sad that only the magic invitational winners are able to create cards, when more then those few people have earned it. If you just happen to do bad at Invitational (happens, like you might be bad at a few pro tours and still star at most), then you might never get to design a card, even if you had tons of influence in the game) Edit: somehow the new boards don't read my enters. I don't have time to check how or why (4 am). Sorry for the bad readabiity of this post.
Conceptually, rings are fine. However, given the game (and other considerations) they should look more wizard-y and less wannabe pimp-y. A simple color wheel of gems would've been more than sufficent; the giant sapphire and all the diamonds are totally unnecessary (and yeah, I'm assuming they're fake, but I'm still calling them what they look like, so deal).
Magic should be considered a sport, it's competitive, requires practice and has a set of rules behind it. Just because we don't do ten laps around the venue doesn't mean it's not a sport. Archery, shooting, hunting, hell even chess are considered sports, and none of those necessarily include strenuous physical activity.
I'm not saying it should be included in the next olympics or anything, but it is a competitive sport by definition.
Back to the rings... good idea, except I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one even if I did earn one. Perhaps to a high end M:TG event, but damn they are ugly.
Yikes. I think they're a little big, and the cruddy WUBRG pattern in the "gems" is nasty, but overall I think rings are alright, and cooler than trophies. I don't think I'd want that honking chunk of metal on my hand, though, sorry. I think the "pro tour" lettering looks alright.

Mmm...
No problem. I'm an ex-hockey player, so I'm very critical when people call things a sport, when it isn't.

Totally! That would be so cool! Too bad they don't, because they are pretty bad looking-otherwise, IMO.
