Why do people not like Gleancrawler? The card is arguably better than Spiritmonger. It's a 6/6 trampler, has a pretty flexible mana cost, and infinitely recurs Ravenous Baloth, creatures sacced to Cabal Therapy, creatures lost in combat, and Sakura-Tribe Elders. Not to mention creatures lost to Pernicious Deed or other normally two-sided removal.
Cough* Sure you want that to stay on there? Its decent in extended Rock where it can be abused easier, but I wouldn't go near as far to say its as good as Spiritmonger.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
Gleancrawler looks beautiful. It arts is like poping outta the card.
I still don't like twisted justice.

RnD during Time Spiral:
Rosewater: "Color Pie, WTF is that, If I want Black to be able to wrath, counter and have green creatures then I will damnit!"
Random RnD guy: "RED AKORMA! FTW!"
Gleemax: "Rosewater has broken out of my mind control!"
RnD after 2008:
MaRo: Hmm how do we fix the problems of pricing with cards like Tarmogoyf and Thoughtsieze
Random RnD Guy: OO lets make a new RED RARITY SYMBOL!
MARO: OMGWTFBBQ! Thats a great idea, we'll call it Mythic Rarity!
Gleemax: NOT AGAIN! CELEB

At least in a normal Rock deck, Gleancrawler seems loads better. It only comes down one turn later and gets you so much card advantage, not to mention it's a 6/6 trampler while Spiritmonger is just a 6/6 with a random ability to get bigger. I see no reason why Gleancrawler isn't better than Spiritmonger, especially considering all of the Golgari cards recently printed.

I'll let your testing let you know about that, since I have been testing Gleancrawler on and off. I'm no extended buff, but from what I have tested with crawler, he just isn't as good as Spiritmonger.
Its not like hes horribly bad, its just that Spiritmonger is generally the effiecient creature, especially seeing as, unless the cards I was saccing were 3 or less CMC, the pressure my opponent would put on me made it to hard to drop what was recurred every turn, or every other turn for that matter.

Spiritmonger has regeneration while Gleancrawler has trample. If they came together and had a kid it would be an amazing creature. Now picture that and stop this stupid arguement over which is better. It doesn't matter.
I love Gleancrawler, and the fact that he'll be kinda easy to get isn't bad either. The part I like best about the card is that he's holding about 10+ people in his arm, and (arguably) getting ready to rip someone's head off, or checking to see how broken they are.;)
Yummy.
P.S. Gleancrawler is a good card as well, definitely more playable than the other crap prerelease cards we get a lot of the time. I mean, this could have been Autochthon Wurm, Grozoth or worse.....
I collect: Vedalken Heretic, Lorescale Coatl, Reaper King, Worldslayer, Woodwraith Corrupter, Lorthos, the Tidemaker. Soon to collect Conquering Manticore.
I demanded a Manticore, and Wizards delivered. I now demand a Chimaera. The REAL one, not, Chimeric items. I also demand a new Gorgon. And more Manticores please.

A 6/6 trampler for 6 with an decent ability is bad? You guys nuts? (Yes, 6, not 3gbg, 3ggg, 3bbb, you're only running this in G/B folks) I bet the regular art is better though.
And guys, nothing beats Spiritmonger . You know that thing is a house and a half. That doesn't mean Gleancrawler sucks. Besides, some of us don't have Spiritmongers
If it had dredge, or came back itself somehow, THEN it may be on the same level as Monger/Kokusho
Works good with Baloth though. Also what is up with comparing creatures to Kokusho. I mean we know he's good and "so and so" is not as good you try running Kokusho in a mono green deck.:rolleyes2:
Edit: But you weren't talking about Kodoma. You said Kokusho. You're silly AoD123...whatever.
Thank goodness the prerelease card isn't grozoth (as it was rumoured to be).
As for the interaction with Baloth: he's not half bad with the loxodon heirarch either (though that requires a white splash, but with endless STEs that's not hard. Until the kami of false hope comes out...)
Sure, fat creatures have to be extremely good to see constructed play. Well, this guy's efficient, flexible and has a decent ability. What's not to like?
also Remember the 2gb Enchantment that puts a creature from your yard into play when you play that critter so this could be cool with multiple sac effects.. Just think about using Bile urchin... sac it during your turn, replay block with it sac it repeat.. just One 1cc creature will be doing 2 dmg.. plus if you have a Spiritcraft trigger with it like Thief of hope, in a stall of some sort you still can win.. Granted in most situations just swinging for the fences might be better and if you have 2 you can attack with one and if somehow you opponent kills it you get it back.. All by its self its not to bad, but once you put it together with all the other cards available it starts to look pretty good

Why all the hate? I'm stoked with the gleancrawler I was bracing my self for the uber fat worm or gozroth. Compare this to the craptastic white maro thing from saviours and most of the other recent preview cards (kaldra got boring, ink eyes was good though)
<<rattles sarcasm detector again>> I'm sure I put fresh batteries in last week
And the Art!!! so cool, look at him collecting all the little bodies aint he cute.
He's not a legend so after 4 flights over the PR weekend I should have a nice set.
Lol, I didn't notice the hoarding the bodies until people poijnted it otu and I squinted harder at the art. Classic. One of the few black cards that -actually- inspires a "not something id want to run into turning into an alleyway" feeling when I look at the art...
How the heck is this not a good card? Much better with B than G; makes Monoblack control strats able to both have a finisher and be more suicidal with the killing; just get your creatures right back. Obviously very good with sac effects, which is, of course, a Golgari specialty. Turns everything on your side of the table into basically Grave Shell Scarab, and on a 6/6 trampler? Its rare that you get a beatstick, card advantage, and a possible combo engine on the same card. It's promising for future PR cards that they went with a more 'complete package' card. This is the best PR card in a very, very long time, that's for sure.

People are kidding when they say Gleancrawler isn't very good, right?
It's one of my top 3 creature cards in Ravnica, without a doubt. I'm shocked they printed such a powerful card as the prerelease promo. Maybe some people are confused about guild mana. Perhaps they don't know that is a cheaper cost than :symb:? It's also cheaper than :symg:. It's close to :1mana:. So for you're getting a 6/6 trampler (already prededant setting power level). The ability is insanely powerful and will win you games if the fat body doesn't. This is constructed gold. Best prerelease promo since Lightning Dragon... ie: second best ever. Actually, it's possibly better than the Dragon. Personally, I'll be playing Gleancrawler much more often than I've ever played with Lightning Dragon, but that's just because black and green are two of my favourite colours.
To all the players who said Gleancrawler sucks, (particularly that guy, thevamp69 who can't even spell, let alone think)
imo you should quit playing magic now and save yourself a lot of money and disappointments.
Gleancrawler is an awesome card, definitely a bomb in limited, and I think it will be very strong in constructed.... I already know the kind of standard deck I'll build around it and it's gonna be nasty... anyways if you can't see by yourself why it's a really good card I won't waste my time explaining it to you.... you'll understand when better players will use it to kick your behind.
(but I'll give you a hint.... kagemaro? sac, wipe out opponent's critters and get back Kage and maybe other creatures you lost at the end of turn... and that's just an example of all the nasty things you can do with that guy, I bet it will see more constructed play than most other Ravnica cards)
btw in limited it might work well with twisted justice, sac your own creature, draw a few cards and get the creature back at the end of turn....

Gotta say its weird having the release card not have the set logo in the background, sort of means to me that they should have 10 prerelease cards for the set, one from each guild (but that'd be anoying for collecting playsets)
You people who don't like this card are insane.

IMO, Gleancrawler is one of the best creature of the set.
6/6 trampling creature for 6 mana is already very good on it's one.
Add to that a very potent and versatile hability and you have an hell of a monster.
The number of tech possible with this guy is exponential.
For example you can recur the black maro.
Tremendous potential here, deck will be design around this card.
By the way, if you play this monster in a B/G deck, you cast him with "colorless" mana...
Tha'ts a very potent engine my friend !
P.S.: I just realize that, the Gleancrawler isn't a legend
Must be Kamigawa aftershock
