i think that the essence cycle is going to be my favorite from this set... at least right now

Way more of a johnny kind of card than the blue one. The odds of getting 7 lands outside of an ultra-dedicated (read:bad) deck are so miniscule as to make this guy completely useless in constructed and limited. On the other hand, the payoff is so cool that I see this being one of those $.50 cards that every other casual deck semi-breaks, like Zur's Weirding or Proteus Staff.
I do like how the body isn't totally weak, though.
Note also that it's a Monk. I think they all will be, which means the Akki Monk is just going to be funny. I came up with Ishi-Niwa as something of a joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if his name isn't something like that.

Yeah, moonfolk, sweep, then you can cast those fat spells in blue and green.
Wow, this one is definately harder to flip than the blue one. Less useful too: This ability is benign as compared to the blue one since the blue one actively harms your opponent every single turn.
BTW, I think we just found the way to play that 8BBGG creature...of course I think the deck would need to be dedicated....and would need a lot of help from the rest of a set we don't know much about.....
Very cool concept....really cool. I can't blame them for not being original.
This is actually a really good way of costing this ability so that it doesn't already cost you as much mana as you'd be gaining lol. Think about it, this ability would cost over 6 mana regularly, at which point, you could cast what you needed anyway. But, if you're sweeping lands up and down you're going to be hard pressed for the mana every other turn, and this is a cheap, yet difficult way to bypass that.

hmm. i cant remember the last time in a game i had 7 land cards in my hand.. lol.. the ability is good, seeing as how u will need it if you dont play lands (which you have to do to flip it..) interesting card i suppose...
it seems like this whole set is based around your hand, how many cards you have, returning cards to your hand, etc.. combine this card with those sweep cards, it would be pretty handy, and the ability will really help you when u have to make up for only having 1 or 2 lands (after sweeping the rest i assume)
I don't think this card is that awful. Between Sweep and the 7 million moonfolk in this block(esp Meloku), it's not that hard to get 7 lands in hand..and even if you have to return alot of land to accomplish it, you're probably still not gonna be down on mana. I mean, with this in play, all of your land are Cloudposts, that tap for colored mana, that don't come into play tapped. Nevermind if you play Azusa too, which I could see a focused UGx deck doing in Block.
In monogreen this will give you something on the lines of 20+ mana when you flip it. In red/green, more like 15. In either case, what are you going to do with all the mana? You've got a hand full of land! Sure, a shapeshifter can flip then change into it, but that's pretty obscure and hard to do... Rites of Spring is another extended way of getting a hand of land.

Well, Orochi Hatchery comes to mind. With 5 lands (of one type, mono-green is the example I'm working on) that's a Hatchery for 10 counters (20 mana, 5 left over to activate immediately [or, rather, on your opponent's EOT])...or, even sexier, with 7 land that a Hatchery for 22 counters (44 mana, 5 left to activate).
Man...22 1/1 snakes would be pretty sweet. However, needing a fist full o' lands is not sweet.
(Also: Enshrined Memories comes to mind. Sadly, the flip requirement is still really bad.)

My only question is what you plan to do with 25 mana if you flip the thing. You're gonna be playing a ton of green to flip this thing. What can green do, Hurricane for 24? The only thing I can think of is the fragile Orochi Hatchery, which lasts about .25 turns in my groups. It seems like there are easier ways to go infinite in casual. But are they as fun?

EDIT: Use with that Elder Pine Jackui thing (I know I mangled that... =p) and fireball, of course.
EDIT2: Yeah, it's 'Elder Pine of Jukai'.

You'd have to dedicate an entire deck around getting 7 lands in your hand...
Returning lands to your hand is redundant, Kite is too costly, nothing will work...
