Soramaro......didn't an article at mtg.com give a little mention of a card in Saviors with a name that flowed with ability and flavortext? I know there's no flavor text on this guy, but still.....quite the tie-in with name and ability.
All the cards we see now look great. Makes me so anxious for Saviors to come!
Quote from Crossfire »
wow, soramrao looks great, although somewhat unstable.., yet an average(cards in hand) 4\4 flyer is something good indeed:-)
so if you have kami of the crecent moon on the field... both players draw 2 cards each turn??-nice
I feel like saying that Saviors is probably going to bump that average card hand up to 5,6, or even 7. Makes me think that this set will be fairly blue considering the 'cards in hand' being important. This leads me to believe we'll see dual lands of sorts a la Torment tainted lands.
2. Maro's preview card on Monday will be most likely one of the -maro's. He hinted it will be one of the coolest cards in the set, and what could seem cooler to him than a whole cycle named after himself?
Maro said it will be a "doozy" of a preview. Between that and the probable first day revealing of a new mechanic, I think he will reveal an Epic card.

Channel Near the final days of the war, the veil between worlds became increasingly volatile. Kami with the channel ability could focus their life essence into a one-shot blast of energy instead of solidifying into a creature. If you’re holding Ghost-Lit Redeemer in your hand, you have a choice: You can pay W to play it as a nice, normal creature…or you can pay 1W and discard it from your hand to gain 4 life. You can channel a creature whenever you could play an instant, and since this is an ability instead of a spell, regular countering spells can’t stop it.
Shinen A new power is called 'Shinen' or spirit fire which can be on creatures OR spells. associeted with the idea that the barrier between both world is gettings thinner. What happens when it breaks is called shinen..

So maybe Channel is Shinen??
No, Shinen shows up 12 time in the Orb. These are seperate abilities. Channel will most likely only be on spirits, while Shinen will be on arcane as well as creatures. Educated guess.

So far I have no problems what-so-ever with them. We had speculated about the Crescent Moon So I figure this is real. Also there is our other refernce to Soramaro. I guess it just takes someone esle to get the ball rolling
Edit: Added mana symbols
Edit 2: Added Pictures, they seem real but the Cresent Moon looks strange
Mochi's pretty neat, useful with all the Wisdom crap floatring around.
DoK is actually pretty good, often enough he'll be a 3/5 for 3, and that's not too shabby. Strictly limited or casual theme-deck worth, though. Also: definately a cycle.
Soramaro's pretty awesome, I like him. Damn sure he's part of a cycle as well, probably along with that potentially green art we had for a while with the monk guy in the same stance as Soramaro.
Moonbow Illusionist is pretty terrible. a 2/1 flyier for 3, so that's okay, but his ability is one of the worst of all the Soratami. Meh, oh well.
PotW is a boring functional reprint. Bland, but it's in theme with the rest of the set so that's nice. Synergy is fun, kids.
DoS is a reasonable card. Reminds me a bit of Soothsaying without the shuffle ability tacked on. Stack your next few draws every couple turns? Not too shabby on a reasonably large creature (at that cost for blue, anyway).
As for the new mechanics....
Channel. Totally didn't see that coming. I never would've believed we'd have so many new keywords in the third set of a block. I assumed Channel was part of a name of a cycle of cards or something. The ability itself is okay I guess, it gets double-utility out of creatures by making them double as uncounterable spells. Neat, but far too much of a cycling redux. But whatever.
Sweep. Not a fan. Bland and uninspired. Why exactly did they need to keyword this? Seems a bit unnecessary, but I don't much like the ability itself, so whatever. Luckily, I'm betting this is the smallest of our new mechanics, save for Epic.
Epic. I think we have our new Beacons. Huge effects that repeat and are designed around to take full advantage of them. Need to see an actual Epic card before I judge, but it could easily be bad if they overdo it. Make them uber-powerful but cost way too much.
Wisdom. I think I'm warming to the theme as a whole. When we first learned it, I found it a little to uninspired. Like they just took any old game mechanic and built a set around it. But after reflecting on its synergy with most of the major mechanics of the block (Splice, Ninjutsu and Soulshift) and how it seems the set is made to fully exploit hand size, I could end up really liking it.
actually, we had more information than that (we know how many lands and multi there are). we were guessing that there are 10 artifacts leaving 30 cards in each color. artifact=15, artifacts=1, even 6 cards dealing with artifacts is a bit high so i think hunter went with the terribly convinent 15 artifact hits in the orb.
Exactly
Quote from jarsyl »
Regardless, 5, 10 , 15 artifacts are possible giving 31, 30, 29 cards per color. I still don't think 5 artifacts is likely so I'd stick with 30 per color.
"First of all, one of the strong elements in the expansion will be shinen, or fire of the spirits, an ectoplasmic energy generated by the erosion of the barrier separating the material world from that of the spirits. Shinen is a mechanic which will appear on many creatures and spells in Saviors.
It seems to fit with the Channel-ability
On the other hand: Ghost-Lit Redeemer is mentioned as having the Channel-abilty but obviously has no shinen in its name.
And Ghost-lit is also twelve times in the orb, how about that?
"Soramaro" is an awkward name to pronounce in my opinion. It just doesn't roll off the tongue smoothly—do other people agree?
I don't think it's all that bad. so-RAH-mah-ro. See? Not that hard. Or perhaps so-RAH-muh-ro. Either way, not that hard, really.

Forgive me father, I did an original sin, I poked a badger with a spoon.
Yes, I like my coffee, hot and strong... Like I like my women: Hot and strong, with a spoon in them.
Spiritual herder: except the one creature we know about is 'ghost-lit redeemer'. And ghost-lit *also* appears that number of times in the orb. I think it is fairly solid that there are 6 cards with channel, and they are all 'ghost-lit something'.
This is going to be the first set...where almost all the information comes from people with cards in hand...basically 'the dudes who somehow got ahold of the cards early'.
...Not usual sources, so it is a crapshoot who will get the info, and where they will decide to share it all.
The precon foldout was a WONDERFUL way to start the spoiling though.
I am finally getting excited for this set.

is the MTGNews crew getting the leaks ahead of the Salvation crew? i know there are circumstances... but it's interesting to note...
Read my post, please.
There is a fine line between sources and 'someone who got product early'.
Unless the person repeatedly gets product early...
Once it became clear that noone was getting any info, the only info we will get (clearly) is either from WoTC, or from people who got the product early. These people will be completely random sources, and they could pop up anywhere really.
And yeah, I'm sure WoTC is a little ticked. They were SO CLOSE this time to being able to let the cats out of the bag themselves. Unfortunately for them, when it comes this close to the prerelease, people will start popping up with product in hand, and...unless their identities are found out, this cycle won't end.
The foldout from the precon is priceless because it spoils all the juicy mechanics of the set, something WoTC had kept a nice lid on for us otherwise.
All told, this looks like the normal 'third set rediculously big timmy crap that looks fun' stuff.

I appreciate the effort everyone took to bring the various scans here, and I'm getting excited about the new set.
"Soramaro" is an awkward name to pronounce in my opinion. It just doesn't roll off the tongue smoothly—do other people agree? The combination of Japanese and not-Japanese into one word doesn't work in this case, although it is creative. I hope the other "-maro" cards read better. ("Kiyomaro" certainly does, and good observation, Hydrokinesis.) =)
Now that Sweep has all but turned out to be just like it was predicted, can we reopen its thread? (I don't know why it was closed in the first place.)
Incidentally, and through great coincedence, there is no non-Japanese in that name; '-maro' is a very common male name ending in Japanese. I imagine that they're just taking this fact as a good excuse to use MaRo
I suppose that the instances of Shinen might be excused by it being a name of many cards with other mechanics, a 'nickname' type thing like the Glasskites?

I just had a thought that might give us the names of the other 'maros. Using this site, I checked the meaning of the 'maros we already know. 'sora' means sky, and 'kiyo' means service or praise. Pretty fitting for blue and white. If the other 'maros follow suit, maybe we can get their names by translating words that fit the colors, adding -maro to them, and check them with the Orb.
I've done a few myself, and rock, fire, rage, and death can be ruled out already.

Mochi: "He's a lot like me, that masterless little kami... unimpressed by grandeur and never at a loss for a trick." -Toshiro Umezawa (cool flavor text)

The areas between the cities give them room for green and red creatures without having to print something like "Central Park Druid" or "Backyard Squirrel" or something.
Considering how i can easily see Soramoro being added as a finisher for muc, (It draws cards and rewards you for holding cards in your hand....hmmmm, not to mention it flies and muc has plenty of lands to return at end of game....), I can't help but wonder what the other cards are.
BTW, we now have the descendent cards, but what about the "ascendent ones?" I would think Soramoro would be called something like Soramoro ascendent (since he ascended to spirit status) but i guess that the ascendents will be non legendary creatures who ascended to spirit status also?

Well based off the 8 portuguese cards in the other thread it looks like Shinen are creatures with the Channel ability, or just cards, but Shinen is in the name rather than rules text.
