I... just can't see elfs sacing themselfs to summon an 'evil' god thinggy... I LOVE this block so far, and Akarat, I agree the green one seems slow... even with fast mana... although... hum... perhaps I'll try this out in my Wood Elf deck... :/

Random RnD guy: "RED AKORMA! FTW!"

RnD after 2008:
MaRo: Hmm how do we fix the problems of pricing with cards like Tarmogoyf and Thoughtsieze
Random RnD Guy: OO lets make a new RED RARITY SYMBOL!
MARO: OMGWTFBBQ! Thats a great idea, we'll call it Mythic Rarity!
Gleemax: NOT AGAIN! CELEB
...Holy crap. That card is AWESOME!!! I can see it now...
"Attack with all my creatures except Patron of the Orochi. One of them gets through, Nature's Will triggers. While that ability's on the stack, tap all my untapped lands. My lands then untap. Tap all my lands again. Tap Patron of the Orochi, all my forests untap. Then I'll filter it all into a fireball. You take... a lot."
(Does the mana pool empty before the end of combat step? <<)
Even without the Nature's Will part, that's still a sick idea.
Yeah, the mana pool empties at end of combat.
Anyway.
OMFG
That Orochi Patron will see MASSIVE play in the sure-to-be-scary CHK-Block Snakes deck. Ew.
The Black one's ok too. It's a nice countermeasure against Affinity. If you could ever get it out on time. Yeah.
i like the green patron.. i mean.. the first one.. the fake one.. wasn't green.. as R_E said.. the green one.. the one from the "timmy" color.. was the weakest one? now we're talking!!
and the black one is nice too

Do you realize that only forests are untapped and not the Urza-lands of Cloudposts?
umm... i think you need to understand that you dont need to play any urzatron anymore if you are playing this card... you will be playing just forest... you have reach... sakura... sachi... why in the world would you still want urzatron? you can come out as fast as 5th turn as well... you can always float the mana 1st and then untap you know from the forest... and its a legend... which mean it can be a tutor target for time of need.

I liked the fake rat spirit better, but the real orochi spirit is far better than the fake one. My guess is neither will show up in anything but block though if even that.
Wow, cool. I hoped that the other ones arent true. The new green ist a really cool card that can and will see tornament play. Snake and Nail, uhm...but why not? You play Tribe elder, and why not Orochi Sustainer and Sachi (You have as Shaman witness, tribe elder, Sachi and Sustainer, maybe Viridian shaman). The Time will reveal.
I dont know wether the black patron will see tornament play or not.
It dont really fits in a Deck we have atm, but I think (and hope) that there will be some new, cool Decks that kills Affinity

The patrons are a nice casual cycle. Me likey.
Now, let's wait for the set's tournament cycle (the shoals) to be completely revealed... can't wait for the white one!
yeah.. it seems that kamigawa as always two kind of cycles..
in cok:
the timmy one: the dragons and shrines (shrines due their slow nature)
the spike one: dunno.. the zuberas maybe??
and in bok the timmy one's the patrons and the spike one's the shoals..

probobly something pertaining to life gain... but would be cool if it had the Dragon Marters ability... if it did... then it would be damn useful... although WW dosen't have meny decent high cost creatures to play on the Shoal as well... they are weenie decks, fast ones that are decent (and not so much more these days) but perhaps we'll see some beef in good old White in this set so WW can have a alightly better mana curve and something to about when they play their Shoal... (of corse they could hard cast it with all that extra mana that's probobly lieng around... but that would be boring...) :/

I mean the ability of the rat offering dude...I just don't know. First it's a big creature that doesn't have evasion. So it doesn't work as a finisher. What else would you play an expensive dude like this for?
The same goes for the other guy. So snakes, huh? I mean - maybe some Extended Deck with Mystic Snake? But, doh!, it's only Forests!
Also, what would I need the untap green creatures for? Only to get MORE mana?! (I already NEED a lot of mana to pull this off, so getting more seems kinda pointless) On the other hand it's a 7/7 w/o evasion and it cost you a creature (a snake to add to that - and we got how many broken snakes?).
...and how is Tooth and Nail going to profit from that? I mean the only good thing going for it is that it's playable as an instant - but it's a creature! What Tap-Ability of a current green creature is soo broken? What am I not getting here? I am sorry, but this is truly the «flavor over power» block and though I respect and enjoy the flavor it's starting to get on my nerves that I actually spent money for constructed in this block...someone please help! Let me find my Type 2 Deck that is new and inventive - and can actually stand a chance against the usual suspects
wow i love them both! i already have a home and for the nezumi patron. that is a very good card. and the orochi patron....well i'll have to modify a deck a little to work him in, but i will try him in a red/green deck. i dont particularly like snakes, so i dont want a snake deck....
and i disagree with what a bunch of people are saying. these patrons are all definately limited bombs. it wouldnt be hard at all to pick up a few rats, or foxes, or snakes to go with the patron. also, i feel they are good enough for contructed. using the "too slow for affinity" claim is stupid because 90% of the cards out there are too slow. if they didnt have the offering abilities, they would be nothig more than limited, but i thnk the offering brings them up to par for constructed.
and perhaps you can use shiza, deaths storehouse, to give fear the rat patron for a finisher
Your right, i could play this without snakes... i though about it, but i'm not sure if it will go into the deck (with summoning sickness, it's rather slow.)
When i cast Heartbeat, i should have 7 mana. (3 lands + 1 BoP) Then i have to play Platinum Angel, and the turn after that Reverse the Sand and attack with Angel (and win from affinity)... Card drawing/scrying is more important then the mana. But i'll still look into this... Patron of the Orochi is an interesting card.
By "and win from affinity" do you mean when playing against affinity?
Not sure how you win by attacking for 4 w/ the angel, unless you let affinity beat you down to 4 or less life before you cast Reverse the Sands (it moves life totals not individual points, just mentioning because it is a very common mistake) and they don't have Shrapnel blast or Electrostatic Bolt or Ornithopter or ...
back on topic:
Rat one is ok, there are man y nice rats to sac for the offering to make it cost 4 or 5 for a 6/6 w/ a useful ability.
The green one may have some combo waiting for it somewhere... and green doesn't have much problem getting it out even w/out the offering (really easy for offering a 2 or 3 cc snake).
I agree they would be basically limited or casual w/out offering but with it I think they stand a chance at constructed. As always it depends on what other cards to support them come in BoK.
well... the green 'god' of doom works damn well in Wood Elf... nothing like casting two Becons in the same turn... hehe... so meny little 1/1s ... yet so meny decks that run Ecoing cards...

Orochi decks work pretty well in constructed (Not the current T2, but are good in block/Standard after Mirrodin walks away), and the patron will fit in just nicely.
The snake deck I'm playing is shaman-based and tries to get a big hatchery out quick... Yay for doubling what X is with the patron
I want a compromise.. I want the black fake one and the green real one ^^
But the black one is still playable tough.. if not as good.. And the green one.. well, thats just some badass leet tech thats soooooo a 3 of in my snake deck ^^

Wow, when reading the begining of the thread i got kinda depressed after reading the crappy green patron, the fake black one was good though, so sucks it not real.
Im glad this is what they really are though, these are both possibly playable, and overall better than the fakes. Not sure exactly how they'll fit into any decks, but this cycle is definitely going to make you change the way you play and think about the future of the particular game you are in.

I like the rat one - it is better than that prison demon - Since Rats are one of black forces anyway in block. A pity the Patrons don't share a type with their worshippers.
The orochi one - good thing the snakes are mostly a bunch of overcosted guys. I don't mind him though...

I find much irony in the fact that the black Patron was better than the Green one in the faked cards but the Green is much better than the black in the real cards.

Who needs the patron?
Turn 1: Forest + Leafcaller
Turn 2: Forest + Sustainer
Turn 3: Forest + Sachi
Turn 4: TaN
Turn 1: Forest + Leafcaller
Turn 2: Forest + Elder (forest)
Turn 3: Forest + Sachi
Turn 4: Forest + TaN
Turn 1: Forest + Birds
Turn 2: Forest + Sustainer or Eternal Witness
Turn 3: Forest + Sachi
Turn 4: Forest + TaN
The patron's neat... but if you have sachi, it's excessive for T&N. Now, if you put in fireball, for instance...
Turn 1: Forest + Leafcaller
Turn 2: Forest + Sustainer
Turn 3: Forest + Sachi
Turn 4: Forest + Patron (hardcast)
Turn 5: Forest + Fireball for 21
Okay, that requires an absurdly good draw, but who knows. Maybe there's another green shaman in the set that would fit in one of those slots...
