Alright - I uninstalled and deleted all of the files, then re-downloaded everything using Internet Explorer and re-installed everything in the same directories as before. It worked. I guess downloading the files with Google Chrome is doing something wonky to them.
HI - The OCTGNwLobby link on Skylabs doesnt seem to be working. Im trying to set a friend up with the Lobby version. Can anyone point to where i might be able to do so or (as I have OCTGNwLobby) where can i find the file to send him so he can upgrade to the Lobby version?
I apologize for the extremely late reply here... the lobby's undergoing huge reconstruction right now. The main developer of OCTGN couldn't continue the project anymore, so the lobby developers have taken over the project and are going to integrate the lobby component into the official build.
The old lobby isn't really supported anymore, and the newer game definitions I've released don't work efficiently on it.
did you use google chrome to download the files, by any chance? This is a known issue that we've been having a lot of recently, and so far the only common factor between these reports is google chrome.
The problem is that it replaces characters with the %5D equivalent, and the like. Just rename the files and remove those characters and they'll load right up.

OctgnwLobby is a little outdated but a lot of people use it due to IP connection issues. If you can get the normal OCTGN to connect then I recommend it over lobby since the game def doesn't work properly with the outdated lobby.
The built in chatroom connects with the username you choose in OCTGN. By default the nickname is "nickname", so chances are someone else will be in the chatroom with the same name. Change the name in OCTGN to something more unique and it should work
a new development team has taken over OCTGN development, and have recently released their new version. They've got some severe server issues they're trying to work out so it's not completely stable yet. The new development site is http://www.octgn.info, and all Magic-related files can still be found at http://octgn.gamersjudgement.com.
I've started the dark ascension pre-release file, so hopefully when the servers are more stable people can try out the new cards :).
@brine - I got the new octgn 3.0.0.2 and sometimes when i go to log on the skylabs logo just keeps spinning and it never goes online I can close the program and try a couple of hours later and connect. just thought I let you know. I know there are still some bugs...
*ps. auto-create token on wurmcoil engine crashes the game for me...
Like I said, they're having severe server stability issues. I have a fix for the game definition already, however I am unable to test it since the servers are down often. They had to remove IP and LAN connection support when they redesigned the core of the program, and needs to be rebuilt as well.
a. Yes, probably you are using some promo cards that aren't present in the torrent (and won't be present until a good way to deal with promos will be found)7
b. That is a problem I already reported to the devs and probably is a bug related to user lists not refreshing when someone leaves the program. Devs are looking into it.
c. Lobby chat had problems with versions of octgn older than 3.0.2. Right now i'm logged in and chatting normally, although the issue related to user lists i mentioned early is present and makes chat looking crowded when (unfortunately) it's not

On the Internet you can be anything you want.
It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid...
since downloading the newest version 3.0.0.3 i cant get past the log on screen ive been trying for like 3 days i also cant close the window it gets to the sending login token to server and does nothing else
one of the unintended "features" of the new OCTGN3 is that you can open up the deck editor from the OCTGN lobby window while you're still in a game.
OCTGN is unable to load decks that are missing specific cards. That's because the card's GUID (the unique identifier for that card image) that has been recorded in the deck file is missing from your card database. However, the deck editor is designed to recognize card names and locate replacement cards in the event a card is missing. So if it can't locate the GUID, it will take the card's name and look for other cards with the same name, and replace the GUID to one that works. Unfortunately, this only works if you have another card with the same name already installed.
So if you get the "card not found" error, load the deck up in the deck editor and save it to re-assign the GUIDs. I would check the deck over quickly to make sure all the cards have been reassigned correctly, and in case you don't like the artwork that OCTGN picked.
Had [strike]Innistrad and[/strike] Dark Ascension been made for OCTGN2? (I'm not switching to the godawful v3 until they allow play without a central server.)
Found Innistrad still on the other site. Doesn't look like DKA'll likely be done
OCTGN's being completely redesigned with the new development team. The old IP connection system was part of the code that was removed as part of the "start over" process, that doesn't mean its gone for good though.
The development team decided to release the first build of the "new" OCTGN with the server instead of redesigning the IP connection system. OCTGNwLobby, which was the team's original project, was incredibly popular among the OCTGN community, especially those who were frustrated with getting their firewalls/hamachi/routers properly configured to play OCTGN. They already had most of the server code available from OCTGNwLobby, so it was simply more accessible at the time.
The IP connection may not be available, but it is not DEAD. The development team wants to use the server code to reconstruct a new version of the IP connection system. Once the server is stable and crash-resistant (it's getting very close), they can start working on the IP system.
EDIT: I've created a new discussion thread for OCTGN3 here, players using OCTGN3 should discuss there. This thread will be reserved for discussion of the original OCTGN2 program.
Thanks again!
Cheers
