So I woke up yesterday to find that Magic Duels has been released on the app store for iOS. I downloaded it to my iPad and started playing through the story campaigns. Once I finished those I was checking out the online VS mode. I won a few vs battles yesterday (like 3) and then went to bed. When I checked out the app today I noticed that the 20 coin symbol next to the ranked vs button on the VS menu screen was no longer there. Does that mean there is a limit to the amount of coins one can win in the VS mode every 24 hours?
I'm usually not one to jump to conclusions and my 2nd theory is that the game's servers are down. I noticed that when I played through the story campaign yesterday that my router went down for a short while and when the game lost it's connection to the internet the coin reward symbols vanished next to the story campaigns I hadn't yet completed. Even though Im not getting the message that I lost my internet connection, what leads me to thinking their servers are down is because I've yet to be succsessfully connected to an opponent today in a vs match.
The only doubt that I can throw on this second theory is that I can still earn the lower coin rewards from the single player matches.
Anyway I just thought I'd start a thread in here it ask about it.
Edit-
Solo battles have stopped giving me coin rewards as well. To me it seems cap has been put on the coin rewards. Only time will tell if this true, or if it is their servers.
the same happen to me too, after playing for several hours the solo battle stopped showing those coin sign... wonder if there is a limit on the coins you can get via solo battle per day?
I believe the servers are down. I get a message saying progress will not be saved and a reconnect button at the main menu which after pressing is still present
I contacted customer support about this issue and said that battles caps at 200 coins per day. It has still been greater than 1 day and I have been unable to earn coins. I will follow up and post here when I get a response.
"There is a daily cap to the number of coins that an individual can earn through Battle Mode wins, and that cap is 200 coins. Players earn coins for each Solo Battle or Ranked Versus Battle (multi-player) win in Battle Mode. If you do reach the daily cap you can still continue to play Solo or Ranked Versus Battles, but you will not earn any coins this way until the next day.
Additionally, players earn a 20 coin bonus with their first Ranked Versus Battle win each day. This bonus does not count toward the daily cap of 200 coins. Coins earned in Story Mode or from Skill Quests do not count toward the daily cap either."
They are escalating my report to a technical team. I also asked about if this is a permanent cap. So hopefully this is a glitch in the system or a temporary measure until a wider release.
Hearthstone has a daily cap to mitigate botting, albeit that is in the range of 30 wins/day rather than 10. Still, some kind of cap is even more important here considering that the games aren't even happening on their servers.
Tell me about it, I've been capped on my coins since I hit the limit on release day on the 8th and my daily limit has never reset.
I've forced closed the app and power cycled my iPad. Everything I can think of short of deleteing it and redownloading, which I refuse to do until I can be certain the cards that I did unlock aren't going to be lost if I delete the App. I don't want to accidentally send myself back to square one if their servers don't remember what I unlocked.
The same thing has happened to me as well. I am hoping I'll have an answer from tech support before too long. I was escalated about 17 hours ago. So hopefully this is resolved soon. Missing out on 2 days of coins at this point make it much more difficult to play competitive battles without buying any. And significantly lowers the incentive to play.
I wonder if the coin reset message needs to come from the server, because it seems like they've been having a lot of issues server side. I haven't been matched with a opponent since the day Magic Duels appeared on the app store, and now today it keeps giving me a can't connect to server error and I'm certain my internet connection isn't at fault this time (since I'm posting this on my iPad on the very same internet connection).
Same thing is happening to me. The coins disappeared and haven't come back. Also today July 13th, 2015, the servers seem to be down. I can only connect briefly online then it kicks me off and gives me the message again of continue offline or reconnect. Servers must have crashed or something.
Nope, I can't find any better info, which is why I created this thread. Unfortunately server problems are usually the norm when any online multiplayer game is released, especially if the game's system has been overhauled as much as Duels of the Planeswalkers has in its transition to Magic Duels: Origins. I am certain the game developers and Wizards of the Coast know about the problems and are working to find a solution or release a update with bug fixes.
However I'm not holding out hope for a fix to be released any time in the next week or two since the Xbox and steam versions of the game will be launching the 15th and the developers probably cannot spare much of their time trying to fix bugs on the iOS version that aren't game breaking. It is a free to play game after all, so as long as it doesn't interfere with players spending money to purchase coins within the app, then I don't see it being high priority for them until the other versions of the game have been released.
I'm glad it's returning for you and although I can finally play online multiplayer again, I'm still stuck with only earning coins by completing those daily quests.
I am having the same problem, and also cannot contact their customer service or tech support. I'm sure I've registered but when I ask it to reset my password it tells me the email address I am putting in is not valid. When I try and register using that same email, it tells me that email address is already being used. Does anyone know of another way to contact them?
The coins have finally come back for me as well on the solo and vs battle modes. I'm not sure if this is due to the glitch being fixed on the server side (as I haven't downloaded an update of any kind). Or it could be that I closed the app and left it closed for a full 24 hours.
The coins limit has stopped resetting again. I wonder if every version of the game runs on the same servers? I know that it was just recently released for Steam and Xbox One, so a sudden influx of players onto the same servers as the iOS version would explain why things have gotten spotty again.
Are they trying to do cross-platform play like Hearthstone?

This was the exact quote I received.
Do you get the first ranked win bonus coins if the person quits out before the end of the match? Do you need to keep playing against the AI if your opponent quits to get any coins?

Not sure about the first question. I honestly have never noticed getting a bonus payout on my first win of the day. You do, however, need to win if your opponent is replaced by an AI. Lose and not only do you not get the coins but you also drop in rank.
This system is really bad. I believe it's to prevent somebody from gifting coins by simply conceding right at the beginning of a duel, but the daily cap prevents that exploit (which is more of just random generosity) and such behavior can be detected via looking at history and refusing to pay out for serial conceders.
So their server for the iOS version today has been up and down all day. About an hour ago all 14,500 of the coins I've built up over the past few months vanished.
I'm waiting until morning to contact customer support. I don't think I could be the only person this happened to today, but I thought I'd check in to this thread to make sure that it isn't just me.
