Hey all,
a bit silly question but what color is this DS matte sleeve as per manufacturer color-coding? Brown or copper?
That's a dragonshield? It's either copper or matt red, but given the lighting on the image it's hard to say without taking a look at the manufacturing site. If you have an LGS nearby they might be able to help you figure it out.

I'm not a MTG player. But recently have taken interest on TCG in general, with the Cardfight Vanguard brand. I asked here because of a relatable problem that I cannot find the answer anywhere else due to most users of the brand are choosing illustrated sleeves.
Does anyone have problems with the new KMC hyper matte sleeves? I bought some and they seem to push the card upwards over time. Since the hyper matte sleeves are shorter than the mat series sleeves (91mm vs 92mm, respectively), it almost looks like the tops of the cards could be easily scuffed by careless opponents that handle your cards at the tops. Can anyone testify as to if this has happened before?
I was thinking about using the mat series instead, because they're slightly longer. They would, in theory, be harder to scuff at the top, and fall out of side-loading binders less. But I have heard that they get sticky a little more easily than the hyper mattes, so I'm trying to figure out what I want right now.
I'm going to be sleeving my entire collection in whichever sleeves I think are best, including things that never leave the house, my cube, my trades, and my decks. Before I do that, I want to find out which sleeves are the absolute best for my needs. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Is 91mm x 66 mm a new line of product or a separate one, replacing 92mm x 66mm? I do find 92mm variants still on sites akin to Amazon, but it means that I have to ship overseas with rather expensive shipping costs and I don't have a valid payment method at disposal.
Although irritating, it's not fatal for one who purchase a card or two only for collection purposes. It's just that I cannot find the desired 92mm variant within the local area, and needed confirmation.

Yes and no - the KMC Hyper Mattes, the ones with the 91mm x 66mm dimensions, are newer than the KMC Super series sleeves (the 92m x 66mm ones), but they're not a replacement so much as a separate product line. Back when they were first released, and until quite recently when KMC apparently changed the formula, the Hyper Mattes were also pretty unambiguously better than the Super series so that may have something to do with your difficulties finding them available locally (Hyper Mattes are designed for double-sleeving with KMC Perfect Size innner sleeves, hence the slight height difference).
For your purposes going with Dragon Shield Mattes may be the way to go, as those are more widely available - the dimensions listed say those are also 91mm x 66mm, but from experience with them I can tell you that cards don't sit as close to the top of the opening as they would in a Hyper Matte.
Has anyone bought multiple packs of Ultra Pro Eclipse?
I need confirmation that they are consistently cut and I won't end with a rollercoaster of heights and widths for my EDH toolbox.

GMR21=OYS, I know you.
Salt is part of the game. Deal with it.
The last pack of sleeves I got was the DS Crimson Classic. They are not quite opaque enough, but luckily the smoked perfect fits fix that. The only downside is that I could find them in just red. Then again, I do like glossy sleeves.
My local store has ultra pro eclipses, but only offering 80-count seems like a pretty big oversight to me. Definitely didn't want to have a bunch left over so I went with DS instead.

I actually just finished re-sleeving 4 of my EDH decks in Eclipse sleeves (each with a different color, so 8 packs altogether), I haven't observed any perceptible difference with the cut from package to package.
What I have noticed though, and the reason I ultimately continued past the initial two packs I picked up on a whim, is that the Eclipse sleeves, while certainly thicker and substantially tougher than regular Ultra Pro matte sleeves, are also perceptibly thinner than KMC Hyper-Mattes (just like the Hypers are noticeably thinner than Dragon Shield Mattes), which for my purposes is great because I had those 4 decks double-sleeved in KMC Perfect Hard inner sleeves with Hyper Mattes, and they "just" fit inside the Ultra Pro Satin Towers I have those decks stored in; now that they are in Eclipse sleeves the fit is much better (in that I certainly couldn't add aditional cards past the 100 but the deck itself slides in and out easily again).
Also, now my decks are color coordinated with their respective boxes, while all still being inside black sleeves for the actual card viewing experience (the inner lining is what sold me on them when I saw the Professor's review, I've long held the opinion that black is the only correct option when choosing sleeve color, but it did mean my decks were hard to tell apart).
loving the eclipses now. they're definitely thinner when stacked, they hold less air after double sleeving, way easier to double sleeve than dshields, i'll be resleeeving all my decks in eclipse now. really lovin the oranges
What's the consensus on sleeves from Ultimate Guard?
I haven't used Ultimate Guard's regular sleeves personally, but everything I've heard puts them at around the same quality as regular old Ultra Pro matte sleeves (but maybe just a touch better), and the experience I do have with their sleeves (for oversized cards) backs that up. I would go with Dragon Shields or Eclipse sleeves as a replacement for Hyper Mattes, Ultimate Guard makes nice accessories but their sleeves are nothing special.
The only time I've had a bad time double sleeving was when using KMCs and DS green mattes. Did not notice any issues with the smoky ones.

I've heard that the DS inner sleeves are a little bit thiner than the kmc perfect size (which I always use), as I double-sleeve my decks with DS mattes and kmc perfect fits my 60 card decks always are bulkier and taller than a normal one. The DS perfect fits could be my solution to that, but I've also heard that they're a pain to double sleeve with as they will slide out the card while pushing it on the outer sleeve. Could you confirm that? How easy is it to sleeve with them compared to the kmc perfect?
(Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I'm not an english native speaker)
I've had this problem using DS perfect fits with DS mattes. I just put the cards in upside down so they couldn't slide out of the perfect fits. Then a couple days later, once the mattes have had a chance to 'stretch', I flipped the cards around and they went in fine. If you still have trouble you can always use a second, unsleeved card to help ease the perfect fit card into the outer sleeve.
while all still being inside black sleeves for the actual card viewing experience (the inner lining is what sold me on them when I saw the Professor's review
And that's the sole reason I haven't sprung for them yet. I pair my decks up with a color that they look good in. Merfolk is in yellow, Burn is in this nice light green, so on so forth. The only oddball is that Psychatog is in...Pikachu sleeves. I like the contrast of the sleeve color against the card frame.
That said, if they're good enough sleeves, I might just have to suck it up.
The first run of Hypermats were phenomenal but I have been having trouble with them since the coloured versions of the hypermats came out. The spliting is much more common than on the black or clear hypermats. Apparently they are strong in one direction and much weaken in the other direction. In any case the second and third time I bought Hypermats they really didn't stand up to shuffling and started splinting regularly. While I still have my first set of hypermats (I just retired them because they are dirty)
Once Dragonsheild started producing mat sleeves I switched to them and they remain strong in the face of my shuffling, although I do bend the corners a little.
I don't play double sleeved though, that might make a difference.
I agree that all the budget sleeves are terrible. UltraPro have improved but I'd still only use them for drafting.
They're not really thinner. I have the DS inner sleeves and any possible difference between them and KMC is a fraction of a millimeter, and doesn't add up to anything on the whole. Plus, they're simply worse than KMC Perfect Fits. Not nearly as fine manufacturing and a coarse bottom edge that is very visible when you sleeve the card upside down for double sleeving.
For as long as KMC perfect fits are as good as they used to be I never recommend buying anything else.
While I broadly agree with you regarding which brand of inner sleeves most people should use, there is an appreciable difference in the thickness of a deck when using the DS inner sleeves versus the KMC inner sleeves. It is minimal and probably won't make a difference most of the time, but I can tell you from experience that with certain tightly fitting deck boxes like the Ultimate Guard Boulder, the selection of inner sleeves makes the difference between a commander deck in DragonShield Mattes just barely fitting or slipping in and out easily. I still recommend going with KMC inner sleeves in general though.
Hello! I'm new here (first post) so please be nice
I've recently got two card sleeves from a singles dealer, and I absolutely fell in love with them! (the sleeves not the dealer)
After what felt like a whole day of googling, I found out they were Ultra Pro Deck Protector "Satin Silver" and "Satin Black"
Unfortunately there don't appear to be any sellers who ship to Germany (Actually I only found one seller at all in Canada and they only have the silver ones)
Does anyone know where one could find old discontinued sleeves, or maybe there is an alternative?
Thanks!
The thing about old UP's is they're simply the best. I know a guy who's had a deck sleeved in them since 2001. I don't think you'll find anyone who'll sleeve up one deck in old UP's and one in Dragon Shields/Eclipse/KMC Ultras/Legion Matte Illustrated sleeves that says new is better. The problem is, the price and supply reflects that. I knew a guy who worked at Wal-Mart, he found a case of the Blacks in the back and asked the store if he could take them. They said sure.
Long story short, he kept a couple packs and made a total of $1500 selling the rest on Ebay.
On another note, I've recently switched from Eclipses back to Dragon Shields. The problem is, the backs get marked really easily and it always feels like the corners are bent within minutes. I went to the trouble of sleeving up my EDH decks in them, so that's about 500 sleeves + tokens, leaving me 20 left. Well, I have now gone through 7(!) more packs of the Matte Green sleeves and they're all marked. I live with cats, so occasionally pieces of stuff finds its way into my deck box. A piece of cat food, a crumb, even a hair or a piece of cat litter can singlehandedly mark 20 sleeves, just in one journey to my LGS. Never had the problem with any color of DS, so that's where I'm staying.
I love Dragon Shields but recently switched to Eclipse, the bright pink ones. I loved the colour and so switched out my EDH deck. After a few nights of play I ended up switching them back into Pink Dragon Shields instead. As I don't double sleeve unless a card is worth a lot, I found the cards slipping around inside the Eclipse sleeves. I also didn't like the way they were so matte in front that it dulled the artwork. And most importantly, they are shorter, so the cards were right up by the edge of the sleeve and sometimes even poking out while shuffling. Not a problem if you double sleeve but certainly a quick way to ruin the tops of cards that aren't. I wish that DS would produce more bright colours, like hot pink, bright sunny yellow, Christmas red, etc. in their matte line. But they are so much tougher than Eclipse that I will be sticking with DS. I will say the Eclipse are a dream to shuffle, but when new, they are slipping all over the place!
My unsolicited advice? Don't get 'em. I had them about 25 years ago and tossed them all. The problem with them is they tend to shatter ruining the cards inside or any card nearby that touches their pointy parts. They're especially fragile around the hinges and lock since they stick out so much. As long as they sit on a display shelf or in a display case looking pretty, they're alright. I wouldn't store my cards in them otherwise.
I almost forgot to mention that if you fill the above boxes past the lip, you have to be careful closing them or they'll pinch a card. Awful box.
Better boxes would be the acrylic that pull apart into two halves. Such as this one. http://www.ultrapro.com/product_info.php?products_id=767
However, it's not perfect because if the hard plastic cracks or shatters well.... It is less likely to happen.
Anyone knows how many double sleeved (Dragon Shields+KMC/UP Inner sleeves) cards fit in an Ultra Pro Satin Tower?
Also how many spindown life counters fit in the dice compartment?

I just checked this out for you. My decks are double-sleeved with Ultra-Pro Eclipses and Ultra-Pro Pro-Fit inner sleeves. I was able to fit 110 cards in the Satin Tower comfortably and 118 total. I stopped there as I felt any more would risk damaging the cards.
As to the dice tray, I was able to fit 9 spindowns in the tray. They fit comfortably (I didn't have to force them in or anything and they still move a little) but it left little room for anything else.

I know I just responded to you but I wanted to create a new post to ask a question: how well do the Dragon Shields work with double sleeving with UP Inner Sleeves? Which Dragon Shields are you using? Is it the new Matte sleeves? The old ones? The "Standard" or "Classic" sleeves? Are they truly Opaque? Do they seem fairly durable?
The reason I am asking is because I don't know that I like the Ultra-Pro Eclipse sleeves. They are extremely durable and I like that the inner part of the back of the sleeve is black so as to be totally opaque. They also felt really nice out of the packaging when I started shuffling my decks. However, this shuffle feel has gone away and they feel dirty or grimy and they feel like they kind of stick when shuffling. And, while not a huge deal, the matte front of the sleeves do dull my foils a bit.
With that in mind, I have thought about re-sleeving them in Dragon Shields since it seems that the quality of KMC Hyper Mats have gone down.
As an addendum to my previous answer: Through a bit of research, I have come to find out that Dragon Shields are slightly thicker than most other sleeves (or so some reviews tell me). Now, I don't think this changes my answer a lot (you should still easily get 100+ double sleeved cards in a Satin Tower) I guess it is something to be aware of.
I personally store all my decks in Ultimate Guard 80+ (for Modern) and 100+ (for EDH) Boulders so I am concerned about whether or not they will fit still with the Dragon Shields. I also have 2 decks in a 200+ Twin Flip N Tray and I have heard issues with that where the cards bend or bow due to how tight they are. I am not sure. So, if anyone has any insight on this, I would appreciate it.
I will still probably end up buying a couple boxes of sleeves from my LGS next Monday or Wednesday to try out. If they work out, I found a decent deal on eBay for 1000 of them. Then, I can give Cainsson a more complete answer if someone else doesn't before me.
I am currently using old formula Red Matte for my EDH decks and replacing them later this month with the newer Jet Matte after watching a friend use them.
My experience with the reds (and Jet) is they're completely opaque, don't pick much if any dirt if played on a clean mat with clean hands, and are virtually indestructible. After two years of using the same sleeves I have only one damaged sleeve that got dented by a rolling metal die, the card inside didn't get any damage. The only reason I'm changing sleeves is because I'm buying a whole case of Jet Mattes for all my decks since my Legacy and Modern decks are in older sleeves (KMC Hypers and old normal Dragon Shields) that do need replacing.
DS Mattes are noticeably thicker than other sleeves, I can fit 100 KMC Hyper Mat + KMC Pro Fit sleeved cards in a Dragon Shield clear acrylic box, but only 90 Dragon Shield Matte + KMC Pro Fit sleeved cards. As for how well they match with Ultra Pro inner sleeves, I don't know.
