I have some cheaper decks that I won't be double-sleeving, as does my partner.
What are some of the best options for single-sleeving? Dragon Shield (for example, Turquoise), say? I hear they let in very little air (and so it would go for anything else) at the top. So that would be a consideration.
For my doubles, I'm using KMC Perfect Size w/ KMC Hyper Mats. Happy with that combo... unless someone can oonvince me there's a better choice to be made!
I've been on the KMC Perfect Fit + Hyper Matte combo for over a year now. That's my personal favorite.
For single sleeves, I like the regular KMC Mattes. They're longer than Hyper Mattes at the top, which is important if you're not going to be double sleeving. I prefer them to Dragon Shields. Dragon Shields I've used in the past have always had an issue with the corners warping slightly inward, causing sleeves to snag while shuffling. I've heard the Turquoise sleeves are much better than the older versions, but I haven't tried them.
I'm still awaiting a review for the new Ultra Pro Pro Slayers. I'm curious as to what those are like.

Thanks. I'll also have a look at the regular mattes. Haven't tried those before.
And I'll keep an eye out for reviews of Slayers as well, now that I know they exist. I'm about as brand-agnostic as you can get, so if they're some new kind of awesome, well...
Avoid the Super Mattes. They're the shiny ones that come in many more colors than the regular Mattes. The Supers are slick and look good, but they wear down quickly. I played a deck with Supers for 1 weekend of tournaments and the backs were peeling off midway through the events.

I've been beginning to DS all my competitive cards, so whatever deck I play, I'll always have a DS'd deck. I've been going with KMC super silver + KMC super fit and once you get the trick it all goes really well. I actually like the silver bordering, I think it complements nicely the look and feel of Magic cards and the whole KMC line is solid. The initial puffiness is annoying to begin with, but indeed it goes down after a while if you stack your cards.
My tech to go fast when you have a sizeable collection to DS and you're alone to do it:
Sleeve upside-down the card with the Super Fit
Turn the card upside down (Super Fit opening at the top), push gently the outer sleeve by holding it on its sides, and push the final centimeter (or 1/2 inch) by inserting your finger in the sleeve and pushing the card downwards.
Thought I'd share, since I've been infuriated quite a few times at the beginning when the bottom DS'd card would get out of the Super Fit in the sleeve by pushing it normally

It's been discussed quite a bit on how to double sleeve. You can also stick a basic land card behind the double sleeved card, slide both into the sleeve, and pull the basic land back out.
My 2 cents: Double sleeving is as much as anyone needs to do. Double sleeving with a KMC perfect fit and a second, high-quality, outer sleeve (with the sleeves facing opposite directions provides a nearly air- and water-tight seal (see Tolarian Community College's Youtube vids on sleeves and his ice bucket challenge vid for proof). If you do it this way, your cards are completely protected, but it's still easy to swap out the outer sleeves (or put the card in a binder), while leaving them constantly in an inner sleeve.
Interesting.... how in the world can you double sleeve anything and make it work? I'm pretty sure you would destroy the cards by bending them in your attemmpts.
I hope you're joking, double sleeving is insanely popular, especially for legacy and modern decks.
@OP: Double sleeving should be more than enough for your purposes. Use KMC perfect fits for your inner sleeve, and the general consensus is Dragon Shield or KMC sleeves for the outers.
Same here, on the KMC Perfect Fit/Hypermatte sleeve combo. Only problem is, pretty much every store I know here has run out of red hypermattes... and aside from me, I've seen like two other people using the same color. Then again, I have around 3 sets in use for my Standard cards (well, the ones that I actually play anyway so I don't have to unsleeve) and one set for Limited play.
On the topic of rare DS colors: TIL that there are Fusion and Copper ones never seen those around here.

They were colors before, but were brought back recently. I had a buddy who had 96 old DS fusion sleeves and had them in his trade wants looking for 3 sleeves to play EDH with, haha.
I really like some of the ultra pro art work on sleeves. However after 2-3 weeks of play the art work starts to rub off and the sleeves peel. Is there any clear sleeves big enough to go around a ultra pro art work sleeve so I can protect my sleeves ?

These are called "sleeve covers" and if you want to stick with Ultra Pro, here's their product description: Ultra Pro Sleeve Covers.
Please note that the expression "double-sleeving" usually refers to adding an extra "perfect fit" sleeve inside the illustrated sleeve, as that is, by far, the more common way of playing with 2 sleeves. Sleeve covers are usually reserved for "triple-sleeving" or custom card sleeves.
I recently picked up some Dragon Shield copper and fusion color sleeves. The copper ones are indeed the new style, which lay flat out of the box. Their product code is AT-10016, 1 higher than turquoise, so I'm thinking product codes with AT-10015 and up are the new style. Although, I have seen gold ones that have a sticker on the shrink wrap saying "New Gold" on it, so I guess they're going back and manufacturing older colors in the new style. Interestingly enough, I bought the fusions thinking they'd be in the new style (their product code is misprinted on the box as "AT-10010 Dragon Shield - Turquoise"), but they're actually the old style that come out of the box curved.
I do like the new style more for their shuffle feel. The edges and corners are sharp and even, so they mash together really well. The only downside is that the weld between the clear and the opaque plastic sheets is thinner and weaker than the older style DS.
Copper (new style) on the left, silver (old) on the right:
The copper ones take about as much effort to split as KMC sleeves do, whereas the silver ones just wouldn't split at all.
So i've noticed an Ultra pro product called Slayer, can't seem to get reviews anywhere. My LGS had some but was sold out in 2 days, none on ebay and 2 on Amazon but not the colors i wanted
I would check anime import sites like http://www.amiami.com/top/page/c/cardsupply.html. Probably you have already looked. Because of the new Sailor Moon series, I would expect some new sleeve designs to be coming out in the near future. That site also sells excellent quality hard-to-find regular sleeves (Yanoman, A-Class, Milestone) and over-sleeves (to protect character sleeves) all at reasonable prices. All the local game stores I go to charge way too much for Japanese sleeves. Of course shipping can be expensive, though.

So, for those asking about the Dragon Shields, the Coppers are in the same style as the Turquoise, but with completely opaque backs. The Fusions, however, are a strange amalgamation of the new and old style: they aren't quite flat, but not quite as curled either. They do have the old Dragon Shield toughness, something the Coppers and Turquoise slightly lack.
This video http://youtu.be/OTfQsREpXrE has a lot of comparison shots and details about them, stretch tests etc., as well as a look at the Ultra Pro SLAYER sleeves and the Legion Elder Dragon Lair.

So here's a question. I've tried Dragon Shields, Ultra Pro's, and KMC Hyper Mattes. My favorite when the sleeves are brand new are Ultra Pro's and after some moderate use I like the KMC's but after a long time the KMC's really degrade in quality. What I'm looking for though is some sleeves that maintain the ability to easily shuffle after 6+ months of use, my KMC's at this point are pretty much worse than the Ultra Pro's. Does anyone have some suggestions?

For those not yet aware, the Dragon Shield Coppers lie flat in the same way the Turquoise do.
As far as I can tell, these still aren't available for purchase. If anyone sees them on the shelves at their LGS, speak up.
