There seems to be an ongoing reference to the number three in plenty of cards from the set, like the art of a couple of pirate cards picturing a group of three pirates, the art in spires of orazca showing three spires, jace creating two other copies of itself, and now most recently the flavor text of the temple of aclazotz mentioning "the Threefold Sun". Has anyone else notice this? And what will it mean for rivals of ixalan? It reminds me to all the clues to emrakul back during shadows over innistrad
The Threefold Sun we already know about, it was discussed in the worldbuilding panel and referenced in the Sun Empire's symbol (three concentric circles, see Vanquisher's Banner). Both the Vampire's rose symbol and the Sun Empire symbol seem to reference the sigil from Ixalan's Binding, which has three points, as does Thaumatic Compass... which leads to the three spires in Spires of Orazca. I don't think it has anything to do with the Eldrazi, just the triumvirate nature of Ixalan's sun god.
The number 3 could also be a clue as to Ugin's involvement. The latest story, with it's reference to a "Winged being" taking the Sun and hiding it away just makes me buy into that more, but the fact that a number that directly ties to Ugin's most famous quote is a nice added touch. "Remember, they came as three..."
So, my vote is not Eldrazi, but just an extra, "Didja get it!?" reference to Ugin. I think the Sun was a early run at trapping the Eldrazi. Hell, maybe Ixalan is a world that the Eldrazi 'renovated', Ugin tried to trap them, but when it didn't work, he left to look for other solutions...
