So, here is today's story, and it seems to be packed with interesting information and foreshadowing. Here are some highlights and thoughts:
- Nissa goes blue (we already knew that), and can manipulate freaking Gods. So here's the possibility of healing those we have, maybe restoring the other three and possibly one day creating new ones herself.
- Speaking of Gods, there is something left of the other three, so we could see their warped versions in HoD. Razaketh is probably not one of them though, it wouldn't fit into the timeline. As far as I konw, Liliana made her pact before Bolas changed Amonkhet. Edit: scratch that, it could actually be him. Lili was first an oldwalker, then aged normally, then got the pact. It can fit.
- Bolas wants to consume the world. We kinda knew that too.
- The blue ore seems to play a role in his plans.
- Giants clad in blue (the ore?) in the streets. Is that what becomes of the "worthy"?
- Emrakul seems to reach far across the multiverse. Wondering what her plans are...
So, did I miss anything important? Share your thoughts...
Well the tin hat (wishfull thinking) side of me thinks that she absorbed some vestige of Avacyn (I know really probably not). The only reason I say this is because her eyes are refered to orbs which made me think of Avacyn's as most other angels seem to have irisis and pupils. But this part of me just is really proably pulling at straws cuz I miss her lol.Eventhough this is most likely Emmy I still imagined it as Avacyn while i was reading lol.
It could be very likely Emmy but when she was in Jaces mind she took on a more hooded appearence like the statues of Emmeria and they didn't really make any references to her eyes. But on the other hand the chess refrences make it more likely. The part that makes me wonder is the part where she says she found that there was no love in her eyes but her pressence was still comforting. I just am unsure how the same being that turned everybody into crazy speghetti monsters could be comforting. It could be that Emmy is more benevolent as even the story with Jace made her not seem so evil but I don't know if she could be comforting. Emmy may not want Bolas to destroy planes as I don't believe that is the titains true function. Emmy was present when Nissa's spark ignited so they could have a connection.
I am hoping that the other three gods are found/restored but it sounds like Bolas killed them completly as the three stars in the illusion were snuffed out completly.
I have a theory, I think throughout the rest of the story, Nissa will be investigating the history of the plane, while Jace analyzes the present.
Once she discovers more about the past and the 3 old gods, in hour of devastation Nissa while reform or remake one or more of the old gods from leylines in order free Amonkhet from Bolas' grasp.
Now I know it might seem outside of her power range to form new gods. But from what we've seen from the story so far, is it really?
What I'd actually rather see is Nissa restore the current 5 gods to their original state, and after hour of devastation she decides to stay on Amonkhet to remake the gods and restore the plane to it's former glory.(because something of that scale should take a lot of time.)
Maybe Gideon would stay too.
Causing a divide in the gatewatch, and yet the gatewatch would still be color balanced. Ajani is GW after all.
It implies that the three gods that no longer exist here are the three titans ("I would devour all but I begin here"--as opposed to began or will begin) and that Nicol Bolas knew about them before, or perhaps as a result of, conquering the plane and supplanting the natural order.

There's no way Ulamog, Kozilek, and Emrakul are the 3 gods who disappeared.
Besides a theory is there is more than the 3 Eldrazi leaders. And not to mention there would be wastes areas in amonkhet if it has their home plane.
Although I do speculate bolas knows more about e eldrazis than the Gatewatch and ugin combine.
And he's probably going to give Nissa a heart attack by revealing he's the one who tricked her into releasing Ulamog and Kozilek.

"But Nissa could still see movement where those three stars had been. Stars no more, just three dark rents in the fabric of the sky. Three dark holes, possessed of an energy and fury all their own, pulsing to a rhythm malevolent." -- as you mentioned, the Gods still exist, just corrupted. Likely Grim Strider, Horror of the Broken Lands as two of them (flavor text, size in art, corruption is typically black in color wheel.
Also, there seemed two likely references to Ashiok in the story, and at least two references in the art of cards for the set.
Personally I'm expecting Lazotep golems, but just because of the emphasis on Lazotep not being represented in cards and the story references.

its an entire plane of colourless-producing deserts?
I'd be more than okay with it not being the origin plane of the eldrazi. I'd be more than okay with them not being gods expelled and adrift in the blind eternities.
But that's the impression I got from the number 8 (5 colours + 3 absent whatsits??? are there any other established things that come in threes? There was a whole flavour text easter egg that referenced this as well), and the explicit references to Emrakul, chess and voices in the mind.

Can't be. It was stated that Bolas has only had a hold on the plane for a few decades, wheres the three eldrazi titans have existed for thousands of years.

There's a good reason why in another thread, I expressed my worry that the three missing gods have names beginning of E, K and U Looks like I'm not the only one to think something so far off

Could it be that the three gods are left in the form of apparent mortals?
Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
