so I'm the kind of guy that gets hyped after every new lore article is released on the mtg website. in the new one that came out today named puppets we learned one of Liliana demons is on amonkhet. we also learned that nicol bolas is there from a lore side of things. I believe the gate-watch will go to amonkhet simply to go screw up bolas. though this hasn't been confirmed and I doubt the theory myself. i feel like the gate-watch isn't ready to take in bolas. at least not without ugin or some other one man army. It could be possible that storywise amonkhet is going to take a step back from the gate watch and just introduce the plane. maybe the gatewatch will have ugin and sorin help them out and siege amonkhet and that's what hour of devastation is. anyone else got any ideas?

an eye for an eye will make the world blind. but if the enemy is blind they wont see us coming!
Narrative-wise we've had a lot of victories or at least partial-victories. It would make the most creative sense to let Amonkhet be a block where our Gatewatch experiences serious setbacks and a defeat. I also think it would make narrative sense to have Lilli be the one to encourage the Gatewatch to go to Amonkhet as she has a demon to kill, but on the other hand- she should know better...
I was also weirded out by the fact that Lilli made it sound as though Razakath was stronger than her previously slain demons as the narrative previously hinted that the other two were sufficiently stronger and even the game nods to that direction as well.
I'm beginning to think that creative is WAAY too liberal in the power level of their characters:
"No really, this Demon/Trial/Villian is the strongest and WAAY more powerful than those other guys!"
When we face those other guys "Actually, this is the strongest bigbad of the lot, those other demons were wimps compared!"
I dislike this. It is insulting to the intelligence of their readers. Retcons to make the present more epic or understandable despite what came before or what will come after makes nothing stable in a narrative and will just make readers care less, not more.

Wizards. listen. The Vorthos community will await the consequences of the Eldrazi Titans' deaths/sealing. We will keep the watch.

The problem orzhov is the way magic makes their stories. It's often a sloppy mess of trying to combine the card elements and the story elements. they have improved in recent years massively. The way magic approaches their story telling has made some changes. which means they are exploring story-lines they would've never seen them going down a few years back. the reason they have to make retcons is because when they made the first demon they didn't have much of a clue of where to go next with kotophed card wise. they probably didn't know he would ever get a card. likewise is probably true for razakath. they didn't know they were going to make him so they just made their life easy and said griselbrand was the strongest to punctuate his strength and justify avacyns imprisonment somehow. my rambling aside I had the same idea that Liliana would just go anyways because "yolo.. unless you're a thousand year old necromancer with a gang of planeswalkers behind you" Liliana 2017. you just have to give wizards a chance and sit through their cringy mistakes and hope that they improve from them as a loyal vorthos.

Gatewatch goes to Amonkhet to "find Bolas," encouraged by Liliana.
Bolas isn't there, but evidence of him ruling the plane his.
Liliana convinces (tricks) the Gatewatch into helping her kill Razaketh.
Bolas returns for Hour of Devastation and kicks the neowalkers' asses.
Gatewatch go to Dominaria to recruit more walkers, coinciding with Magic's 25th anniversary.
This begins a multi-block story arc of the Gatewatch going to different planes, going out of their way to recruit new members, and fighting agents of Bolas trying to advance his schemes. (For examples, vs. Vraska on Atlazan, or whatever they change the name to.) There may be a few unrelated, self-contained blocks, but generally the plots will focus on recruitment and defeating agents of Bolas.
A few years later, Gatewatch returns to Amonkhet with reinforcements and defeat Bolas.

PLEASE tbh having Razaketh killed would be good "mini-victory" to lead into Bolas whooping their butts

What if GW killing Razaketh bring some sort apocaliptic event that triggers Hour of Devastation? That will be a loss for them because they caused it and put into motion one of Bolas' ancient evil plots.
So far we have seen that Jace is totally useless against undead, Nissa is useless in general and she can't reach her precious leylines on Amonkhet on top of that and Gideon's favorite combat move is to throw himself literally inside the biggest threat (first the gearhulk, now the wurm). I think the chances of some of them kicking the bucket are pretty high...

As much "Good StoryLine" and "Drama" as that would be, I really don't think they will kill off any member of the GW here. They might possibly Critically injure one and play the "Will they make it or Won't they" storyline, but that's as far as they might go in this part of the story.
Now I am not saying that they will never kill off a character, that is bound to happen anyway with the way I'm thinking WOTC is steering the OverAll StoryLine, but I don't believe it will be this "soon"...
