my idea is a war themed block with 5 factions choosing a new ruler for kamigawa
but with planeswalkers like bolos and the phyrexians trying to gain stake in kamigawa
Well, I know that generally multicolor would be a good idea, just as a popular theme that could help Kamigawa. I would likely make it enemy color factions, which is pretty unique. Or try for that, but not sure if that would work. I'm honestly not sure though. Kamigawa seems pretty fine to me conceptually, but it's supposedly not popular, makes it hard to tell what to do. I would include more humanoid Kami at least.
why stop at 5 factions? Go all out: 10 two-color factions, each with a warlord legendary as their leader. And have spirits. Some arcane too. Sisters of Flesh and Spirit would be a flavour win, and some mention of what happened betweeen the end of the Kami War and the now of the plane.
Let's just throw everything in a blender and see what comes out.

Personally, I would love for a return to Kamigawa (which isn't likely to happen) to be themed around Japanese pop culture. The original Kamigawa block took place thousands of years ago, and the only bit we've seen of it recently was a swamp with ratfolk.
why not some allusion to the Meiji restoration with some foreign power causing an industrial revolution and results in their land adopting their traits. maybe it's Phyrexia?
Please no Phyrexia. Or Emrakul. I'm also not sure that the Meiji Restoration is a really good way to take Kamigawa. It doesn't seem like it would wind up... super different from how the first block went to an extent. Could just be my impression on that though.
If someone were to invade I would guess Bolas if just because he has some desire to ruin a bloodline, could see him wrecking the place.
I was earlier in favour of revisiting Kamigawa one last time to see it destroyed by eldrazi or corrupted by phyrexians, but now that we have supplemental products like Commander, Planechase and more, I don't mind if Kamigawa remains a "background plane", too uninteresting to be visited in a block, but still "there" to provide a bunch of cards with each new "casual" product. (Sorry about all the "quotation" marks".)
Alternatively, if they ever want to have a block centered about Bolas' machinations, I think Kamigawa would make for a neat base of operations for him, considering his ties to the plane. This would also allow them to show the plane without any plane-wide disasters happening while still having a plot. (I think they really need to start having plots that are set on a plane, rather than planes that are plots.)
Yeah, if we can't have a return without the plane being massively warped I'm fine if we see hints of it in other products instead. There is definitely a market for more Kamigawa, and I'm glad they're acknowledging it.
A return to Kamigawa has a built in reason to be dramatically different from the original; at the end of the last Kamigawa story the Sisters of Flesh and Spirit set out to change how magic worked on the plane.
That could mean just about ANYTHING.
Plus, it's been so long, I think it would be interesting if Kamigawa had progressed to being one of the more technologically advanced planes, like Ravnica. (think Legend of Korra vs A:TLA, but not *quite* so far).
Frankly, I don't want a return to Kamigawa. It's been made clear that everything that made the original block unique and charming is deemed as "obscure", "alien" and "weird", so chances are any return would be a plane made up entirely of samurais and ninjas with the occasional anime references.
Unless you have another White aligned main villain and Black protagonist, sign me out.

Not to mention the fact that wizards would just use the opportunity to turn it into another Eldrazi/Phyrexian hellscape.

Agreed with both of you. I would like to see what exactly a Japanese mythology set means if Kamigawa is too "obscure". Samurai and Ninja aren't even really mythology, and most of the things in Kamigawa are really... obvious Japanese things. I do think that more humanoid kami would have been fine, but that's about it. If the return would just mean everything that makes Kamigawa interesting is lost, either through drastic shifts or some alien invasion then it just isn't worth it.
I wish I could get a better idea of what exactly was too out there, all I hear is more samurai/ninja and less spirits, which isn't exactly compelling or very helpful.
I'd be for it, Oyobi needs more Spirit friends.
It would have to be faithful to the original and build on its lore though. No Jace or whatnot, a new Tamiyo and some planeswalkers native to Kamigawa.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
I would like a return but focusing on the mortal races (foxes, snakes, moonfolk, rats etc), maybe even make it a tribal block.
I would also like to see story focusing more on the legendary creatures as opposed to Planeswalkers (you know, like in the good old days).
I would be fine without Spirits, but I guess a few here and there would still be interesting, especially if they are also Zuberas.
Samurai and Ninja would be a must. New Hondens would also be cool to see.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
1) get rid of the Samurai subtype (it just doesn't work with any other block, and really, they're just Knights by another name).
2) do some kind of Sengoku Jidai story, since I'd love to see a MtG take on it (a Goblin warlord trying to become the new emperor would be hilarius).
3) make the spirit creatures and cards less busy; they were just an assault on the eyes in the original Kamigawa.
Still, I could definitively see a return to Kamigawa. I liked the plane, it just had some issues that need ironing out.

A return to Kamigawa would (and should) contain considerably less spirits, which also makes sense, considering the Great Kami War is over.
Also the world should be more diverse. Back then worldbuilding was basically just figuring out a single biome for each colour and slap them together on the same plane. Mirrodin and Kamigawa suffered from that problem most prominently, Ravnica to a certain extent but less so simply by how the world was structured. Time Spiral also did this to a degree, with Lorwyn being actually rather diverse. Then Alara came along with its very focused shards, which again felt way too formulaic, though this could hardly have been avoided, due to how the world was set up. It was Zendikar where the mold was broken and we got more diverse and less "paint-by-colour" worlds.
So yeah, they should have a "bigger" world for Kamigawa 2.0, which would be explainable, since the Sisters of Flesh and Spirit likely would have changed something. Personally, an interesting take would be if they brought the mortal and the spirit world closer together, as they represent the union of both. Basically, parts of both worlds bleed over into the other, infusing them with elements of the other half. It should of course not be too outlandish, but just enough so you go "Okay, those trees look a little bit supernatural." Something along the lines of Fields of Summer. At first glance it looks somewhat mundane but on a closer look you see things that are slightly off, but not in a jarring way. This would also give Kamigawa a unique look beyond "everything is japanese".
I don't know, this is how I'd handle things, but I'd handle a lot of things differently from Wizards, so...

Also, this.
And I feel like I was one of the few who liked the spirits, kind of a shame. It's part of what makes Kamigawa so interesting to me.
