Well, remember that we've never really seen what the Eldrazi do when they're not physically bound to a plane.
It could be that they become much more Lovecraftian when they aren't trapped on a plane, and instead interact with it from the blind eternities.
We do, actually. On Strawmania, the unnamed plane where Nahiri and Sorin witnessed the last people on their plane being destroyed as their plane came apart. There Ulamog and its lineage was portrayed in the same way as it is right now.

You know what, I think you're right. I would say that we haven't seen Kozilek's MO yet. He was just chillin' in Zendikar's core, and we don't know why.
You know, considering that MaRo has said before one of the things people keep asking for is a real White-Aligned villain, I'd guess that it's not that Avacyn's been corrupted, but rather that she's gone full on Spanish Inquisition. Look at what she did with the Cursemute, for instance. I could see that setting the path she takes aftewards: an increasingly strong and stronger hand against everything 'impure and unnatural' to the point that she starts an Inquisition against her own people to find the corrupt ones.

You know, considering that MaRo has said before one of the things people keep asking for is a real White-Aligned villain...
Wait, WHAT?
Radiant. Akroma. Konda. Elesh Norn. Heliod. Magic is spoiled for White-aligned villains! It's the least-subversive subversion since the twist ending to The Village.
That said, Avacyn gone bad seems plausible. So long as she's doing her job, Innistrad isn't the horror setting it was designed to be, and they already used "she disappeared," so that just leaves "died" and "turned evil" on the classic list of ways to take the Big Good out of the picture.
If she is Nahiri (and I hope she isn't), this could be justified by her snapping after Sorin told her about the Eldrazi on Zendikar. Otherwise, there's always Kozilek (said in the voice from old Mastercard ads).
In THE ART OF MAGIC: THE GATHERING – INNISTRAD, terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings and nameless horrors lurk in the shadows. These pages, lavishly illustrated with the award-winning art of Magic: The Gathering, are your entry into a world beset by terrible evils on all sides and betrayed by the hope it held most dear. Tread lightly as you follow the heroic Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch as they investigate these dark mysteries

These quotes seem to have a distinctively Lovecraft-ian flair to me. In addition to the the name of the set being a rather flagrant copyright infringement, I have a feeling that we will finally see the long promised Lovecraft-ian side of the Eldrazi, and Emrakul will be the source of the "madness plaguing the inhabitants" and "nameless horrors". This would hopefully (or should) involve a more mysterious and subtle horror theme than what we have seen from Ulamog on Zendikar.

Confirmed - The Nameless Race is returning for Shadows Over Innistrad! Prepare to FEAR the power of Magic's worst-costed color hoser – could it be that Nahiri went into hiding because she was too embarrassed to fight an opponent so lame? And what does this mean for New Phyrexia, which is doing something probably maybe?
...kidding aside, I'm not too keen on speculating from back-cover blurbs, since any plot point which gets spoiled on the dust jacket of the art book half a year in advance is probably not a really great thing to focus on anyway, you know?
As a Vorthos, what really interests me is this book getting announced at all. At a time when Wizards cannot justify even a single novel per year, after the Guide to Alara fiasco and the presumably-poor sales of that first Magic art book way back in Rath, them seeing it as a safe enough bet to announce a second one of these before the first even comes out is encouraging... but, frankly, startling. Ever the pessimist, I half expect it to get canceled in a month or two, once Hasbro sees the sales from Art of Zendikar.
I hope it doesn't! I'm getting Zendikart, and I hope to own Artistrad, as well. But I don't really know how to read the assertion that Magic fans won't buy paperback novels, but coffee table books will work fine.
I think this is more doable because it's being published by a third party and requires no real editing or time investment from staff.
Viz and Dark Horse make a fair amount of money selling these limited print-run art books.
Wait, that's all it took?
Why did nobody bother to do this YEARS ago? And also contract out the ever-rumored Magic RPG? Did we really need sixteen years of downtime on art books until someone thought, "oh, wait, there are publishers who specialize in this"?

Bah. GrumpyCrawler is grumpy.
Ha, they did do it years ago, actually. I believe there was one waaaay back when. The original Alara had a published 'Planeswalker Guide' that was basically this, and I believe there were a couple earlier ones.
As far as the RPG - Wizards ain't gonna contract out a Magic RPG. They've got D&D, and they're not going to risk competing with it. At best, they'd release a MTG supplement.

The one from Rath, yeah. I always assumed it wasn't financially viable, hence why they didn't make more.
But apparently... they could have just started contracting them out at almost no cost any time? Hmph.
Rationally, though, I know it's not that simple. When I go to the book store, I see more and more art books for "nerd" properties (the Hobbit movies, virtually every large video game franchise, etc.), so it's probably more a case where the market's changed, such that someone is now actually interested in contracting these.
Still, I can't help but be a little bummed it didn't happen in time for a Tarkir or Theros art book. Ah, what could have been... at least we're almost guaranteed to get a Ravnica one, eventually.

They were implying pretty hard that Tarkir 2: The Wedge Strikes Back is in the return block queue, so odds are if these art books keep it together, we'll see one on the revisit.

I also find it hard to believe that this block will not involve Emrakul. Maro has stated that the storyline has shifted to more linear storytelling. Also the Book as said before is clearly associated with Innismouth.

With respect, Maro also repeatedly states he's not a part of the creative team.
The storytelling being more linear doesn't make it strictly linear - just that it'll feature recurring cast members rather than jumping between different sets of characters. The story has clearly set the hook for Jace to go looking for Sorin on Innistrad, it's possible Emrakul will also be there, but I hope not.
