In THE ART OF MAGIC: THE GATHERING – INNISTRAD, terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings and nameless horrors lurk in the shadows. These pages, lavishly illustrated with the award-winning art of Magic: The Gathering, are your entry into a world beset by terrible evils on all sides and betrayed by the hope it held most dear. Tread lightly as you follow the heroic Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch as they investigate these dark mysteries
There could be many meanings but the main points i'm guessing
1. Something wrong is happening to the angels, potential antagonists
2. "nameless horrors" above or beyond the typical Innistradi variant are gathering.
3. It mentions plural Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch, which suggests not just Jace but another of the the Saviors (maybe) of Zendikar will appear.
4. The "Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch" part makes it sound as if they've joined into a formalized order. Interesting.....

'Betrayed by the Hope Held Most Dear' could just as easily mean that the people have discovered the falseness of the Avacynian religion, like we knew was a potential outcome from The Lunarch's Journal.

Perhaps but then why does it say "terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings"? Granted it doesn't necessarily say angels and the semantics could be argued to mean Terrors are falling above onto the winged creatures but usually the phrase is taken to mean that the terrors are falling from the sky through use of blood-splattered wings.

I expect that the humans have risen up against the angels, or at the very least rejected them, because the humans now realize Avacyn is the false creation of a vampire, and the angels have gone all sci-fi robot and decided the best way to protect humanity (which is the ostensible job of the angels) is to slaughter the heretics.
It's the AI is a Crapshoot trope, except with angels instead of supercomputers.

The way it was worded, it's as if Avacyn is the main angel that's gonna be a baddie. (And the recent Jace in Innistrad art reveal looks to be an indicator)
Maybe she's gonna slaughter the other angels? (Oh, poor flight leaders... it was but fun to know thee...) Or maybe the corruption on the angels will start from her.

Falseness? Last time we visited Innistrad the magical power of the avacynian church was pretty much real.
You know, I like some "Our religion is a lie!" story as much as the next guy, but on Innistrad it actually holds physical, literal power. It's a bit odd. It'd be like someone saying "You said this machine gun was a pistol, but it's not! Rah, you lied to me! I'm now going to throw it away and not use it against those wild rabid bears that are charging towards me."

True, but the religion only holds sway because people believe. If it gets out that the religion as told to them is false, their faith will falter and that very real power will as well. The faith of the people on Innistrad has already faltered because of Dark Ascension. Add to the the Skirsdag cultists highly placed in the Avacynian religion, and you've got a real recipe for disaster.
Could be Avacyn gets corrupted because of people believing that she is some sort of evil creature so she becomes one. It could also go down a rout where the vampires start worshipping Avacyn.

I don't know if human uprising against the Church would make much sense in the setting. I mean, even if word of the Lunarch's journal got out, it would have little to no evidence and would be met with immediate accusations of blasphemy, and then executions. And even if was sustained somehow, jumping against the only thing even keeping you alive isn't very logical. Especially for the predominantly White/Green humans of Innistrad. I mean, if they have the population of Innistrad rise against the Angels, how would such a conflict be happily resolved? Humans and Angels would both grow weaker, and then Demons and Vampires would have a complete advantage.
Plus it would be too similar to Theros apparent upcoming story line, I think.
Avacyn being corrupted makes quite a bit more sense to me. Since there are a bunch of possible culprits (demons, vampires, Bolas, Emrakul, Tibalt, the Raven Man, a bug in Avacyn's programming, whatever the natural corrupting force of the plane is, etc.) and the solution would be pretty standard: find corrupting influence, remove it, blame any possible destruction caused by crazy Avacyn on a "demon pretending to be Avacyn".
I'd take male angels being considered a "corruption", as long as I'm going to see studly males in armour and angel wings. Heck, I'd take it even if they're reprsented with black wings ala Deathpact Angel and Angel of Despair. *beady eyes*
Maybe Avacyn got corrupted by Griselband and other demonic forces while she was imprisoned in the Helvault
I simmered on it but if ever, this could be the most simplest way of explaining how Avacyn is going to be corrupted. I mean she was imprisoned there for quite a while, mixed with all the black mana she and her angels booted in there.
Maybe it just took time for the black mana to tick with her.

When have people ever been logical? And especially when it comes to religion? Also, remember they just went through Dark Ascension where their faith was tested, and the Skirsdag Cult is still in the upper ranks of the Church.
Plus it would be too similar to Theros apparent upcoming story line, I think.
I think the corruption story would be closer. The gods in Theros are shaped by what people believe about them, so if people believe them to be villains, they'll start to against villainous.

Well sure, a lot of things can go wrong, and Avacyn turning against the people is a possibility.
Avacyn has been shown to be ruthless and matter of fact. She is only the mission.
Well, i have said it before. The plot turning i would love to see is the previously evil guys being actually the ''heroes for the wrong reasons'' in this one. You gona love that hero Tilbalt!
Avacyn and her followers antagonists, and the dark forces allying with Jace for the good of the plane, now that's a story to await for.
