"The shredding pain caused by the death of your companion (girlfriend?) caused your spark to ignite, and you traveled to Bant. You became a knight of theirs and took the name of Gideon Jura, seeking redemption".
Some translator might provide more accurate output, my Italian dates from quite a few years back.
Gideon's travels would be a mirror of Elspeth's if it wasn't for the whole Mirrodin/Phyrexia thing in the middle there. Have they ever met in-story? I feel like they'd have a lot to talk about.
Also, woo, Alara. Gotta be some fun cards they can bring back from there.

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
I don't mind having characters that fall into similar archetypes, but these two now have two of the same planes as formative parts of their histories as well. Though I guess with Elspeth stuck in the underworld, they at least won't be stepping on each other's toes in the near future.
If I had to have picked one of the two I would have much rather kept Elspeth. She's a far, far more interesting and flawed character. Thus far Gideon seems to be an exercise in making someone as noble and just as possible, complete with tragic backstory (dead girlfriend, even) driving him towards redemption. *yawn*

I suspect it was probably his mentor rather than a paramour.
Though it's now really suspect how much they're even going to pay attention to Laura's backstory for him, that backstory did include a mentor.
I do remember that. I'll hold judgment on that point until we get the English text. Still, he's shaping up to be pretty "generic male protagonist" material. Fortunately there are four other stories being told in the set/game even if this one does turn out to be lame.

To be fair, Gideon was always pretty generic Paladin anyway. Part of me likes a similar story once in a while.

Yeah, I guess what's throwing me off is just how similar his story is to Elspeth's, except with much less interesting characterization. If his formative experiences had tread different ground then I don't think I'd be so harsh on it.

Well, hopefully it's a bit more unique than the tidbit of information that we have suggests.
Due to the (relative) openness of the various planes to visit they can make use of small bolsters to older sets they cannot legitimately revisit as full blocks (even in the new 2-set paradigm). Meaning that Kamigawa, Lorwyn, and Mirrodin are more likely than they would be otherwise. As two of the plane are hard to revisit (received poorly), and the third is impossible (dead world is dead).
Alara, Tarkir, and Ravnica (depending on how much multicolor they want in the last core set) allow for cards that flavorfully fit into the setting without functionally being printable in the set's design space. Similar to Shattergang Bros being from Ravnica, but not being printable in a Ravnica based set (being 3 colored and all).
But these thoughts are technical reasons, not storyline reasons. So its really a matter of what gets priority.
Probably some other popular planes. Innistrad has the advantage of being related to Liliana and popular.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I don't know why but of all the characters whose origin I'm most curious to discover (despite my indifference to the character himself) it's Jace. Wizards likes Jace and seem to have something grand in the works for him therefore I fully expect his homeplane to be someplace of great import like Equilor or something. Nissa's first plane visited is another interesting puzzle. Either it will be a plane that caused her to appreciate the primal glory she treasures in her plane such as the metallic late-mirroden, or the cityscaped world of Ravnica, or it could be a plane that may have caused her original xenophobia such as Lorwen and the Elve's former dominance there.

I think it would be cool if Liliana's first planeswalk plane would have one of her demons, maybe even the last one as some sort of foreshadowing/teaser to her story arc.

This would tie in nicely for when we return to Lilians storyline.

I think that Innistrad lost its shot at being part of the story when Garruk killed that other planeswalker who was a demon hunter (I think?). Also, what if we see Jace on Iquatana? I know that that plane hasn't been given much attention (appearing only in Planechase and Future Sight flavor text) but I know that design likes to use Future Sight material when they can, and Iquatana is an aether based plane, which seems to be what a lot of Jace's magic is based in as well. It's definitely possible that at some point Nissa ended up on Pyrulea, it's a plane that we know has huge plants on it, as well as interesting fauna. Overall though this speculation seems painfully futile (not at shot at the speculators in any way) because for every good guess we come up with, there's a chance that creative has made a different plane that's a better fit.

Nice catch. No idea what I was thinking there. Speaking of that though, maybe we will see a feudal world. Who knows?
Spirit Bonds is supposed to be from Shandalar, I think, but it could easily be used in the trailer even without portraying one of the actual planes featured in Origins.
Lil' Gideon's spear and clothing make him pretty obviously Theran. But it's weird that he doesn't have the darker skin tone they used for his Funko figure.
Hey, something I just noticed: Gideon's adult head Icon shown in the Pic representing him as a kid features the same art as his alara representation. With that in mind, does the full art of Lilliana's transformed self feature any identifiable landscape particular to any plane? It may give us a hint as to what her first planejump sent her to.

Have you met Tamiyo and Narset? Tibalt and Ashiok?

1. Theros
2. Bant
3. Zendikar
4. Chandra's home world (new)
I'm eager to see which worlds are revealed next.
Question, though: if any of the other walkers are linked to other shards of broken Alara, do they still count as separate worlds?
