My opinion is that the guilds don't care about this at all. It's not because you're a freakish gladiator that you wouldn't care about that special person of yours, or being a selfless community guy made you a trusty and passionate lover in private. You see, up to now I made my carrier in a scientific area, which is very precise and exact in its nature, it doesn't mean I'm the same when it comes down to private feelings and romantic affairs. It's not because you're part of a group that it sculpts your entire personality.

That is definitely a hilarious post! However, I am sorry that I need to ask, but who or what is "Dahmer," and how does it/do they relate to the Golgari guild?
Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer from the 80s (well, from 1978 to 1991) who picked up male prostitutes, slept with them, killed them, and ate them.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
One would think that the Orzhov would value intercourse at least in private. After all, their ideal lifestyle consists of being virtuous and affable in public, while enjoying the high life possible through their immeasurable wealth in private. An Orzhov priest may very well keep up a pure and antisexual facade when attending church service, while still enjoying the company of several "close acquaintances" in his private city fortress.
If Uncle Karlov is anything to go by, they have murals made of their sexual exploits and decadence, and often have slave for the... intimate use.
My new headcanon is that the Orzhov control a prostitution ring staffed with members of the Rakdos guild designed to plunge people into massive debt so they can be exploited by the Orzhov. The two guilds split the profits with the greater sum going to the Orzhov of course.
Please stop making this stupid threads. It's like asking ''How does Burger King view romance and sexuality?''

Please stop making this stupid threads. It's like asking ''How does Burger King view romance and sexuality?''
How can you say that? Are you not ever curious about the aspects of this game's universe that are never explored in the cards?
There's a difference between being curious about the multiverse and asking questions that don't need asking. Before this thread, at no point did I ever think about the sexual preferences and proclivities of the guilds of Ravnica. Not once. What members of the guilds do in the privacy of their own homes is not something I need to know. It has no bearing on my understanding of the guilds, the Guildpact, the sociopolitical machinations of Ravnica, the Paruns, or the current guild leaders. Those are things I care about. The sexual preferences of the average Golgari is not something I want or need to know; it has no bearing on the story, and it has no bearing on the game.
It also misses the point that the guilds are made of individuals. You can make certain generalizations, but just because Izzet Lead Researcher, Electromagical Applications Division Xixxix (who I just made up) likes to be shocked with magical lightning channeled through mizzium nipple piercings in the shape of Niv-Mizzet's wings doesn't mean that his colleague Izzet Lead Researcher, Dragscoop Ionics Division Berlinixit (also just made up) has any piercings or an electrocution fetish. She might be asexual, caring more about her work on new vehicle designs that about forming personal relationships with her colleagues. You don't know; you can't know what people do behind the scenes without it appearing in the story, and since we're dealing with a children's card game, there's never going to be a point where Wizards/Hasbro decides "hey, let's call the next block Debbie Does Ravnica and focus on telling a story about guild sexytimes."
To be fair, it is very interesting on an anthropological standpoint.
Not really. There is no reason why sexuality would be guild based rather than on an individual or species level. Why would an Izzet goblin have the same or even similar sexual tastes as an Izzet human? Do we consider the ranking?
There isn't an answer nor is there a rational way to determine one because the system that the question is based on simply doesn't exist. If you wanted to ask what you thought Elspeth, Ashiok, or any walker's sexual desires or fantasies are then I suppose you could because they are individuals with wants, desires, fears, hopes, ect. But to attempt to define an entire culture or organizations wants, desires, fears, hopes, ect and claim the individuals all agree with it is insulting to the theoretical characters and to the worldbuilding as a whole.

Yes, that does make sense, but I promise you that this is nothing compared to the fandoms of other popular media (especially nearly any Japanese anime or manga series); fans of such media very frequently speculate about the sexual preferences and activities of the characters and produce no shortage of erotic fanficiton or fanart of those stories.
And this game is not a "children's game," as you phrased it; it is intended for teenagers and above, although that certainly does not prevent children from taking an interest in it (which I like; any child who chooses this game over Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh has made a great choice, in my mind).

I don't care about other fandoms. This forum is a place for discussing the Official Storyline™ of Magic: The Gathering. This is NOT the place to indulge in fanfiction, fantasies, fanon, etc. Nothing productive comes from these kinds of idly speculative conversations, because it will not ever have bearing on the Official Storyline™.
As for my calling this a children's card game, 1) that's a common meme on MTGS; that phrasing gets used frequently in describing the game, usually in denigrating contexts like this, and 2) the stated appropriate ages for MTG are 13 and up. If you're between the ages of 13 and 18, you're legally a child.*
*This varies among states; in some states legal Age of Majority is actually 19. Mississippi sets the Age of Majority at 21, which seems really high to me. Regardless, there's at least five years where people who are legally minors are considered the target audience for Magic.

Well said. I'd thank this twice if I could.
The only guild you could get away with making sweeping generalizaions about are the Selesnya, and that's because they were brainwashing their members. (And they've kind of stopped that nonsense of late.)
Guilds are organisations. Organisations have policies. You don't ask how individual people view communism, but you can make general assumptions based on the government and rhetoric.

Forgive me for seeming to be impolite, but that seems to be very harsh and even cruel to me, as if you are stifling the imagination of the users of this forum and not allowing them to freely express their ideas about this game. I shall also add that, with that belief, you definitely would not want to be a member of another forum of which I am a member, since speculation and fan-based ideas run rampant on that website.

I'm not stifling any imaginations; I'm saying that the Storyline subforum is for discussing the official storyline and worldbuilding of Magic. If people want to create Magic fanfiction, they should go down to Personal Writing. That's the place where fanfiction belongs. I don't see how that fits the definition of cruel ("willfully causing pain and suffering to others"). If being told this isn't the appropriate place to discuss non-canon information causes pain and suffering to someone it's not willful on my part. I'm simply stating the role of this subforum.
I'll spot you harsh. The rules are explicit: baseless speculation is NOT allowed here. This isn't the place to explore hypotheticals and what-ifs and wouldn't-it-be-cools. And I take that rule very seriously and enforce it to the best of my ability as a mod.
It's a fine line to walk, and it leads to difficult decisions. We don't want to shut down discussions, espeically if there are good conversations going on, but at the same time we don't want to allow misinformation (which most fanon is) to crowd out the actual information. There are a number of threads that have popped up in here recently (and I'm explicitly NOT singling out any particular poster; they've come from multiple sources) that have left me shaking my head. On the one hand, by the letter of the law, they should be locked down immediately for baseless speculation or inappropriate content, but on the other hand if I locked every questionable thread people would be afraid to post.
This thread, in particular, was a problem for me. My gut instinct was to lock it down immediately after it started, because it easily could have gone to a place we don't want to go here. By the time I saw it, though, people had already been responding, so I kept hoping it would die a natural death after a few replies (or cross the line and force us to lock it.) Amazingly, neither of those things happened (so far anyway). So it stayed open.
I struggled with that. As a mod, you want to do your best to foster a community and allow for discussion and let people have fun. We don't *want* to be the fun police. But at the same time you have a duty to the community to hold the discussion to a standard as outlined in the rules, to provide the structure necessary to help the community thrive.
All of which is a rambling and long-winded way of saying: don't accuse me of being cruel for trying to make this community better. If the purpose and rules of this community doesn't align with what you want out of it, maybe you should move on to a place where you can find what you want.

Kaburi, your post is certainly very well-written and rational, and I can understand your position on that matter, even if it does not make me like the situation any more. Also, given your previous post, I presume that it would not be a good idea to start a thread asking what views each clan of Tarkir has regarding romance and sexuality?
Caranthir, there are not many players of M:tG on the other forum of which I am a member, and that forum is not specifically dedicated to this game; I joined this forum specifically because it was dedicated to this game, so I wish to feel welcome here, but users such as yourself are making it difficult for me to feel that way.
This thread has drifted away from its original topic, so could we please return the discussion to where it began?

I find it somewhat offensive to discussion DemonDragonJ that you call out people for being "cruel" and "imagination stifling" as an automatic response whenever you are challenged. It is incredibly defensive and intellectually dishonest.
As to the actual topic at hand. It serves no purpose, and as it is baseless fanfiction speculation it adds nothing to our learning or theory about the flavor of the game.
As I've mentioned to you in the past, if you are truly curious there is information out there. You can find it if you look. Or if that is not the case you can always PM someone who you believe shares your interests for a private conversation. But as Kaburi has stated, impossible to know scenarios simply don't belong here.
And yes, I apologize for being harsh. But things need to be said.

If you start a thread asking this same question about Tarkir, I will lock it immediately. (Well, the moment I see it, which given how my workday is going might be a couple of hours after it goes up.) I'll probably throw in a Baseless Speculation warning for good measure. You may consider this a verbal warning to be very careful and think before you start another thread asking about unknowable things. Once again, Storyline is NOT the place for idle speculation.
That's not to say all speculation is bad. We can have all the conversations about possible changes to Tarkir in Dragons of Tarkir, or drawing parallels between Kahns and FRF (like the awesomeness about the fetchlands corresponding to the brood leader dragons). We can speculate about just how Sarkhan is going to save Ugin. But there are some questions that don't need to be asked. We don't need to talk about Ravnican fashion design. (Although I WANT Ral's jacket.) We don't need to talk about the cuisine of Theros. (I assume there are olives.) There are some things that have no bearing on the flavor or story of the game.
At this point, this thread has played itself out. In the end, it did end up going somewhere bad, just not the place I expected. (I expected more inappropriate content/NSFW content and less harsh reality and soul-bearing.)
