I'm not story expert, but Deicide makes it pretty apparent that Xenagos is dead. Doug has mentioned the importance of killing off characters to keep the story tense and thrilling, and Domri Rade/Sarkhan Vol (if he ever gets un-crazy) seem perfectly capable of holding the RG God torch.
Yeah Xenagos seems like a decent walker but he doesn't seem like something i would want to see another iteration of. His story played out through Theros. He did what was needed of him, which was mostly giving Elspeth someone to kill.

Whats the big deal about black lotus you ask? Well you see, there is no big deal about it. It IS the big deal.
Deicide means the killing of a god. Godsend is said to turn gods into mortals. Deicide could very well mean that Xenagos' god-status has been revoked and he's merely a mortal now - basically just a planeswalker mage.
However his story has run its course and there's no need for him in coming stories, so it's quite unlikely that we'll see him again.
As of right now, he's dead. But if the creative team at Wizards decides that he fits well in another story somewhere down the line, they'll probably do a ret-con to make it so that he was just revoked of his godhood or something and just disappeared for awhile.

That is not necessary. The nature of life and death on Theros being what it is, with an actual physical afterlife that one can travel to (and potentially from, under certain conditions), it is quite possible for the very dead Xenagos to return... (or become returned).
Even if Elspeth did not end his life, one can be damn certain that Xenagos got smited immediately after being de-deified.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
She asked Erebos for an ordeal, so she got to ask Erebos for a boon. After she kills Xenagos, she offers her life to bring Daxos back to life. Erebos brings Daxos back to the mortal world as a mindless returned, and claims Elspeth. So, she's supposedly dead, and Daxos is a zombie.

Some people need to read greek myth. >.<
A god claiming a mortal and bringing them into their realm =/= as the mortal dying, so unless the story specifically says that Elspeth is dead, she isn't. She's just stuck in the Underworld.

Except, of course, for the fact that while inspired by Greek myth, Theros is NOT Greek myth.
Going to the underworld on Theros means dead. Not a land where the living can deal with as long as they don't eat the food, but a land actively hostile to life. Even standing in Athreos's temple was enough to weaken and sicken both Elspeth and Daxos. Crossing the three rivers means "bleh! I am undone!"

That may be so, but...
There have been several hints throughout the block, such as the card Rescue from the Underworld, that seems to indicate that it is quite possible to both travel to and from it. It also contains a few creatures that are, in a way, alive, such as the Cerberus creatures. Sure, it wouldn't be pleasant, but the trip is possible. This leaves WotC with an out should they chose to resurrect Elspeth. It is unlikely of course, but still possible.

Also the multiverse needs its team of "bad" walkers...
... because, historically, cooperating with other villains has always worked out for villains (see Tezzeret re: Bolas; Sarkhan re: Bolas; demons re: Liliana).
Xenagos was my favorite of the block. So here is hoping he comes back in a few years time to kick some god ass in "Battle for Nyx" or whatever the theros redux is.

I'm pretty sure it became pointless after the release of the card Deicide but clearly stating things just isn't enough for some people.

He's as dead as Elspeth.
Which doesn't actually seem to mean much when you get down to it.
