Didn't see this posted yet, but it got me a bit excited so, here it is!
According to this post from yesterday on his tumblr, we probably haven't seen the last of Koth! Yeah, I know, it's hardly a confirmation and MaRo is NOT on the creative team, but I like Koth, so I'll call this a victory anyway!
Oh, and Mods, feel free to move this to speculation if need be. I wasn't sure if it needed to be there or here, with the source.
Doesn't really surprise me. The last time we heard of him it was from Elspeth, who speculated that he didn't make it, but didn't know for sure. I never really got why people jumped to conclusions about his death so quickly. As a rule of thumb I'd say that wizards would not kill one of their faces of magic off-screen.
1. It really makes no sense from a marketing or story-telling perspective to kill off a Magic character and asset like Koth off-screen.
2. MaRo has demonstrated time and time again that his grasp on Magic's current overall story is vague at best. Anything he says relating to the current story should be taken with an enormous mountain of salt.
It's completely in Elspeth's character to assume the worst, so we have to take that into account, and as people have said, it's doesn't make too much sense from them to kill him so unceremoniously, especially so many years after the fact.
I hope that this means there is still a chance of the Mirrodin resistance coming through with Melira? I am too depressed by the thought that all of Mirrodin is just gone to Phyrexia...

Creative had to get permission to kill Venser.
That's how important Planeswalkers are to Magic's branding.
