I don't know why they'd want two White walkers for one block, but I guess nothing else would really work from a Lore standpoint. Koth is MIA, Venser is dead, Karn is messing around on Mirrodin, but Ajani is relatively free now that the events of Alara block are over.

Maybe they are going to color shift a walker.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
Karn left Mirrodin almost immediately to see if any other planes he's visited have similar problems and fix them before they get out of control. He considers Mirrodin beyond saving.
So we'll get another R/W Ajani? That could be fun.
The speculation has been leaning towards a G/W Ajani since he seems to be embracing his community-focused personality traits.
Also, very likely to be enchantment based. It suits his avatar magic, makes him very mechanically distinct from Elspeth, and really meshes well with what Theros has going on.

I'm not ENTIRELY convinced about that. We do have Leonin in Theros, but I think they're a filler race that we will see very little of.
And thus far, I have to say that Theros being an enchantment based block has been a mixed blessing - very few enchantments right now, even the ones in Theros, are seeing competitive play. Bestow is completely ignored in the Standard environment and likely will continue to be, because even though we know that the creatures Bestow leaves behind leave a lot to be desired, Wizards is scared that they'll be game-breaking.
I think if they really want to give it a push, they could reprint Idyllic Tutor, which would give people some incentive to build around applying enchants to their creatures, although I think that we still won't see many being used.

Yeah, this isn't really the appropriate forum for Standard discussion. Not exactly germain to the topic at hand.
Back to the new preview art, I'm digging the way Xenny's horns branch and twist as he ascends to complete mad godhood. Very ominous. This begs the question, though, of whether he maintains his 'walker status as a god. My assumption would be that his godhood is tied to his presence in Nyx, and that leaving would drop him back to mortal-ness.

It also has no impact on what wizards considers their theme to be. Regardless of competitive, it is what it is. (And competitive really doesn't matter.)

From what very oblique things have been said, it seems that he's going to get dropped back down to creature status, which has all sorts of nebulous things to say as to his status as a walker.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if ascension to godhood killed his spark?

It would be a nice twist, but I get the distinct impression that being able to planeswalk was never very important to Xenagos. If anything, being able to planeswalk led to the current downward (or upward, maybe) spiral he's currently in.
I realize that even now he's an incredibly limited character with hardly any backstory, but that's the definite impression I get from him - he's not like Karn, going around being an interplanar janitor. He came, he saw, he went back home, and all he got was this stupid t-shirt.
I'd love this to be the case. Perhaps Nyx is actually a sub-plane of Theros which allows those within it to interact with Theros in such a way that their powers are greatly expanded and they appear as gods to those on Theros.
Heliod, Nylea, Purphoros et al; they're all just powerful mortals who journeyed into Nyx at some point in the past, from there giving them godlike abilities to influence the plane. If Xenagos can just get into Nyx, he can tap into that same power, and appear to people on Theros as a god, with god-like abilities.
That would explain why the gods can't influence other planes, and why other planes don't have gods; Theros is the only plane with a Nyx-like sub-plane that allows people to "ascend". It would also explain why the current gods are so worried about a new god arriving into the pantheon. If mortals are able to start journeying into Nyx then when they arrive they'll see the gods for what they really are - powerful mortals. Very powerful, in fact, but still only mortals.
I wasn't playing in the original Ravnica block, but didn't that have some sort of sub-plane that influenced Ravnica but couldn't be reached by normal means too? Where loads of ghosts lived or something? Perhaps Nyx was created by the same magical universe-wide forces that created that "ghost bubble".
This would be interesting.
So, do you guys think that wizards will kill off xenagos? Or maybe just elspeth and Ajani will put him in the time-out corner?
I feel like they would not want to introduce and kill off a walker all in one block. It is entirely possible that he will be defeated, only to "run away and fight another day".

I really hope they don't, because I don't feel like Xenagos has a lot of mileage, and to be quite frank, if nobody ever dies, then it destroys any illusion of tension that they want to cultivate.
Aside from that, he's going to stick out virtually anywhere they put him.

And we need more of that.
Planeswalkers are supposed to look foreign to natives, I'm sick of every character seamlessly blending in as a strangely dressed and accented foreignet.

From a narrative point of view though, that is a serious issue.
They can't tell a story if the character can't seamlessly walk in the world. If they stand out, they will be hunted and the narrative will have to be told outside society, and generally SOCIETY is why we're interested in the world.
The only exception I can think of is Tamiyo, but her only interaction was with an insane hermit astronomer so...
Or maybe he'll just lose his spark and be trapped on theros.

just saw some preview art for Journey into Nyx.
Check it out here.
I'm curious.
Isn't that Ajani up there with Elspeth fighting against a godlike Xenagos?
Does that mean we'll be seeing him make an appearance in the block? and if so, what role do you think he'll have?

Ashiok is a lone wolf, I think. Ashiok doesn't really care about other people, aside from what they can do for Ashiok.
Karn left Mirrodin almost immediately to see if any other planes he's visited have similar problems and fix them before they get out of control.
He considers Mirrodin beyond saving.
He shows up in Volume 5 of the Theros comics and torments Dack for a time.
That doesn't come out for a couple of months, though.

I'd love this to happen. It'll define the spark even more.

Yeah, a giant sparkling horned thing taller than a mountain is definitely going to be noticeable, to say nothing of reality-warping.
