Have to admit, it's saddening to see that Lukka hasn't learned a damn thing from the disaster that was his invasion of Dranith. Isn't he making the exact same mistake of being manipulated through his own pain again? Even Kasmina (who I'm still ambivalent towards, she seems to have honorable goals, but her methods are questionable) correctly deduced this.
Oh well, perhaps he changes his mind after this invasion fails. I don't want to see him never learn from his mistakes.
This is especially frustrating because I think Lilliana's arc in this set might lead to a very interesting conclusion (I can't see her reviving Gideon in the end, but instead growing as a character by giving up this goal and learning from the mistake she made with her brother).
Not sure where they are going with Rowan overall, is the threat that she might be too similar to her birthmother in character and will do horrible things to achieve her goals? Wouldn't really be a fan of that, but we'll see where this leads ultimately.
When Liliana broke up the fight between Will and Rowan, I was half expecting her to question them on the whole "I wish you stayed dead" thing as part of her quest to bring back Gideon. Also, the story mentioned Lukka taking on the characteristics of the creatures he bonded with. Was that something we saw him do on Ikoria? I don't remember it, but I could just be foggy on the details.
And did I miss something, or did we not get a side story last week?
yea sadly it's looking like the theory is holding true rowan is probably getting a dark Pheonix plot
hard to tell is kasmina a good guy? because based on her sadness on lukka being selfish it won't work for an ally for common good also she claims extus is only using him for himself

I think Kasmina has good goals and cares for the greater good, but her methodology to achieve it (via spying, manipulation and brainwashing if the previous info about her was correct) is morally questionable. Blue-Green characters often want to better the world without really taking morals into the question of how to achieve that goal, I guess this is true for her as well.
Did, did they just forget that these are colleges and not Harry Potter houses?
Yeah ... and the general atmosphere I'm getting here is less university and more magical high school too. And reading about Mage Tower is just as boring as reading about Quidditch.
Man, these stories move so fast. The next one is the finale? There's barely time for anything except the most rudimentary beats. I like some stuff that's in here, like the friendship between Quint and Will. But everything is so on rails, it feels hollow.

now next week is episode 4 there should be 5 episodes
Nice story was nice, imo really shows what side stories should be.

Updated the Op with all know info and hopefully will just add whatever the commander deck legends bring.
Based on Cram Session's flavortext, I think that Gyome is our promised chef.
I am also missing the lead character on Witherbloom Command. The rest of Commands has the face students there, but not Witherbloom - instead of Dina, it is something like a small treefolk - the closest thing to this is found on Body of Research¨- yet this "Needledeep" (treefolk-hinting name) is apparently a Quandrix member. Dina is not even depicted on the command - there is a troll and an elf in the foreground, and bunch of humans in the background.
So it seems that our treefolk legend is this.

First page all updated for now (will add story links later). Overall I think the world build is good for what we needed for the set, the school is built and I can see how the schools could dictate/outline how the rest of the plane and likely could set an enemy set here without needing the school flavor or spell theme.
I also been wanting to do a magical school pathfinder campaign and this gave me a lot to work with (along with looking forward to seeing Paizo doing a magic school book).

Am I the only one feeling that Rowan's "I wish you'd stayed dead," a little harsh? I mean it's her brother we're talking about. She yelled it in front of everyone and showed no regret afterwards, it's a little too sharp after merely a few verbal squabbles. Rowan had always been hotheaded, but I don't believe she was ever cruel.
If this is WotC's method of pushing Rowan to be a "Dark Phoenix", then it's very poorly done. Her and Lukka are disappointing, and I'm tired of PWs being the catalysts and answers to all crisis on every plane. God, how I missed Kamigawa storyline.
I'd rather read as story about the face students of Strixhaven. At least they're not bent on interplanar drama.
EDIT: I love Valentin, his part shows that characters of every color alignment could show compassion in their own way.
To be fair Will flat out compared her to their mother, a known rapist and child murderer, simply because she didn't like to read.
They're both incredibly awful to each other and I hate the writers for doing this.
Will's comment was less about studying and more about Rowan's nonchalant attitude towards her responsibility and power, and Rowan indeed has been very imprudent given that she agreed to become a 'student', even hurried Will to travel, yet done very little academic work upon arrival, aside from enjoying the excitement of dueling and socialization, and her statement at the end of the chapter very much went accordance with her brother's view. Rowan literally lashed out at a Prismari student's pet simply because it reminded her of the Witherbloom pest... whereas the witch potion making reminded her of their mother.
Learning comes only with true humility, and Rowan refuses to acknowledge her lacking. She's too afraid to admit her fear, and too powerful to be criticized; a dangerous combo
I can see how Rowan wants to run away from the memory of two villains who harmed their father, yet both ironically made her more like what she wanted to escape from. This is where she drew her conclusion on "using any means possible to do what's right," but we all know how frequently that leads to a bad ending.
They're both incredibly awful to each other and I hate the writers for doing this.
Ditto, although I do think it works. Both are only 18 and they barley been alone as adults and have conflicting personalities. Heck many times people don't even delovpe their adult personalities until they are in college.
That said to echo soramaro (and something i have been saying) the rushed story didn't help since we had two stories with the twins to show the conflict building between them. I think a few more stories would have made things feels more natural build up.

I feel this is a problem of all the "new" stories since Zendikar Rising. They are now cramming the story into six episodes, plus some spinoffs. This is just too few. Stories of all three sets - ZRN, Kaldheim and now Strixhaven feel logically rushed then.
Another thing is the pacing. Sometimes a story encompasses just one or two days, but here, if I read it well, we basically skipped several weeks where "nothing happened" and went straight to beginning to the Oriq onslaught.
Similarly - the first Kaldheim story leading to Kaya fighting Vorinclex was excruciatingly detailed, yet the final battle for Bretagard felt like a report from a plane flying above the battlefield.
I precisely remember when I felt cheated by the writer for the first time - when reading Silmarillion. After all these detailed battles in Dagor Bragollach, Nirnaeth Arnodiedad or the fall of Gondolin, including who was injured by what and in what part of body, the fall of Morgoth was described on two pages like - well, the Valar and the Vanyar came from Valinor in force, torn down the gates of Angband, defeated Melkor and imprisoned him, Beleriand fell to the sea, The End.

Anyhow, what's the deal with Professor Gladefell's child? What exactly went right, or better yet, wrong, with that? For the dragon not to instruct Lilliana regarding the spell? At that rate I'd recruit Jace to mind-read the dragon and learn the spell by force. Come on Onyx, you're Black and far more ambitious than this.
I'm tired of PWs being the catalysts and answers to all crisis on every plane. God, how I missed Kamigawa storyline.
Agreed on all counts.
You mean the story that put into motion due to rifts caused by planeswalkers and the whole thing ended up not meaning anything to the wider magic lore beside being backstory/set up for Bolas?

Just goes to show you what a good author, flavor and a break from the same tired pattern can do. And to think, the setting for those books was among the worst rated in MTG, with poor sales!
Does anyone know why Lilliana was unable to obtain the spell, or what what occurred with Prof. Gladefell's child?

Honestly, whether a story ends up meaning anything to the wider lore isn't all that important as long as it's is well-crafted and enjoyable.

Thats not the topic being talked on, doesn't matter how "well-craft" Kamigawa is, point is the story was set into motion by the action of old walkers and ended up being a semi-prequel to tie into the Tetsuo Umezawa and Bolas conflict. All of magics main story lines are tied up with planeswalk.

I don't normally post here, but Wizards made multiple slips in gender pronoun assignment in that article:
Nassari is referred to as "his" in Uvilda's blurb but as a gender-neuter "they" in their own blurb. (I instinctively thought of Nassari as male from the card before I read tweets from Wizards saying they were gender-neutral.)
Even worse, Tivash is referred to as both "he" and "she" in his/her own blurb. Does Tivash flip their gender as they see fit?
We didn't learn about the races of Arcavios yet, have we? There seems to be a lot going by the cards. And it's kinda weird to drop vampires in an environment like Strixhaven without explaining how they go about feeding. (Sure, Valentin's blurb talked about eating animals of the swamp, but I kinda doubt the silverquill do the same?)

PW involvement is peripheral at best. If anything, that touch links Kamigawa to the greater lore, similar to the Great Aurora, without tainting it with the same tired, linear devices.
