I don't normally post here, but Wizards made multiple slips in gender pronoun assignment in that article:
Nassari is referred to as "his" in Uvilda's blurb but as a gender-neuter "they" in their own blurb. (I instinctively thought of Nassari as male from the card before I read tweets from Wizards saying they were gender-neutral.)
Even worse, Tivash is referred to as both "he" and "she" in his/her own blurb. Does Tivash flip their gender as they see fit?
A few people pointed out that it seems that Tivash got his bio mixed with Yedora, Grave Gardener.
We didn't learn about the races of Arcavios yet, have we? There seems to be a lot going by the cards.
Sadly no which was something i was hoping to see and their might be more as a few (goblins, leonin) only got a single card. So far I think vedalken are the only major magic tribe not here.
And it's kinda weird to drop vampires in an environment like Strixhaven without explaining how they go about feeding. (Sure, Valentin's blurb talked about eating animals of the swamp, but I kinda doubt the silverquill do the same?)
Idk I think silverquil vampires likely feed on animals as well, likely just more refined. "Animal blood only" vampires are a thing in more "modern" fantasy which Strixhaven seems to lean into.

Will and Rowan make up easily and we still don't know why the Oriq throw their lives away when their boss just keeps killing them.
It's to show how eeeeevul Extus is.
Honestly, that part where he sacrificed his oriq agent from that student literally made me roll my eyes. Sigh.
The plot of Strixhaven in general is pretty... weak. I don't understand why they felt the need to have another "invasion plot". It distract from Strixhaven too much and there was more than enough plot to be had in Strixhaven (Liliana's growth as a person, Kasmina, the Kenrith twins, all of which is now taking a backseat.) It's a shame because I was actually warming up to the setting itself.
Anyway, I'm curious if Kasmina abandoned Strixhaven or is trying to call for backup offworld.

-Nice to see how far Liliana has come showing her protecting the students and seemly caring for their well being.
- Me at Liliana seeing Lukka "Get her Onyx"
-Kinda sad that the elder dragons here all seem to have fire breath, the tarkir ones having different element breaths was fun.
-I do like the idea of Liliana being taken care of by a bounce spell, dose seem like a decent idea and something I hope to see with Niko more.
I've really been admiring Lilliana as a character, especially since the Gatewatch demon hunt/chain veil arc, WOTS and now the Gideon/redemption arc she is on. I really miss the Gatewatch era, but I do find myself invested in any lore she appears in for some reason.
The parallels of Josu and Gideon are amazing, and the idea she manipulated the Gatewatch into relieving her of the contract, only for her history to repeat itself, it's profound. Love her whole concept.
By FAR the best part of the Strixhaven stories, this story is so good it deserved to be expanded into a trilogy, with the other students stories interwoven with it.
The main story has its good points, but it has too much CW teen drama vibe going on, although Professor Onyx is awesome in it. I simply see nothing in Lukka's character motivating him to do this kind of stuff and that is the other week point of the main story.
The setting itself seems amazing, not just Strixhaven, but Arcavios, it deserves a trilogy with the Plane itself as the star with the five students the main characters, without all the Planeswalker drama. So much potential, an insane amount of potential with this incredible taste of what this Plane could be, that gets one so excited, but then we quickly move on.
This is the problem with WotC deciding its not in the novel writing business anymore. Vast wasted potential. I really loved Quint's story (and the other 2) and especially Quint's story and I wanted more of that.
Imagine these 5 characters and in a full sized novel, or better yet a trilogy.

Proves that a world can have good stories without the meddling of PWs. I don't mind having PWs around so long as they respect the rules of the plane they're on. Despite Garruk's personality, he at least changes his attire base on the plane. He does it to better blend in, to hunt, but it's still more appropriate than Jace showcasing the same style blue robe everywhere he goes, or Liliana baring her breast regardless of custom.
I'd totally read a story of the five students. They represent young people who're still seeking their growth and destiny, instead of adults who behave like children, such as some PWs. If anything, Liliana being a reformed black mage is perfect to guide young people of potential mistakes; she learned it the hard way. Five students would also make a great team given their magic, background, and personalities we see so far.
Out of the five students, Killian is likely going to be the group leader. He's disciplined, introspective, and never stop improving, not to mention he already had experience in leading his peers. A leader must learn to question oneself, but not in a self-hindering fashion like Rootha. A leader needs to take charge, where I believe Quintorius prefers to stay back and provide support. A leader needs to have a stronger sense of right and wrong, and Dina is too playful (and daring) for that role. I don't know about Zimone yet, but I suspect she's more interested in academic study of unraveling the real world, rather than making improvement to it; constructive changes requires someone who had suffered intimately. It'd be nice to watch Kilian proves himself outside of his father's regulation, even if Embrose regards Kilian's success a result of fatherly tutelage.
Overall thought on the arc: I there there was some fun stuff here with Will and Rowan as characters but otherwise this story felt very rushed and not sure what Lukka or Liliana added to the story.
Now Maro said Kasmina had been made for Eldraine and had been cut and I wonder if her storyline with the twins was semi-reworked here which imo explains Liliana and Lukka kinda feeling like add on. Kasmina didn't do too much but I think it fits with her being a cabal leader as it seems she was judging Lukka and the twins on if she should recruit them and is def now interested in Rowan (and somewhat Will). Again I can see how we where support to reach this spot in Eldriane.
Will losing a leg was also unexpected but I rather like the twins didn't come out fully untouched. People also have been wanting more disabled representing in fantasy and the ice prosthetics def seems really cool.
Liliana mini-arc was nice but considering everything in the past I raised an eyebrow at her going by her real name again, unless the school promised protection as part of her teaching contract. Similar to Kasmina didn't seem to add much but could be set up for a future story. As been said the fact the twins and Liliana are friendly now and the story potential for Garruk and Liliana meeting each other with the twins.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
I also really feel like they need to bring the in-house authors back to do the main story lines. Since Wots the stories have not felt as interconnected and we had the weirdness of Liliana going by a second alias and seemly Kaya just up and leaving Teyo and Rat and w/e Lukka goal is. While this can certainly be on wizards, I also think is from the outside authors coming in without knowing everything that happened in the past stories and I don't think they are told anything about the future storylines besides details they need to include to set it up. Compare this to when it was all done in-house and you had them setting up Ixalan during BtZ or being able to go back add to put in the prophecy about Gideons death in Amonkhet since they had finished out those details in Wots around the time that story was being finished up.
The outside authors though I think excel for world building stories. They don't often need a huge amount of research as many of the characters are new and it can give more diverse voices to the planes and are a great way to show off outside authors.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
The lukka ran off after the hunters snapped out of it and attacked the oriq agents
Rowan goes “dark Phoenix” on the blood avatar crackle with power for show
extus is dead by his own blood avatar being mind controlled by the twins
will lost his leg from the blood avatars final attack before its death (funny enough same thing happened with hiccup fighting that 6 eyed dragon in HTTYD except it’s not a accident)
His prosthetic leg is made of ice (he refused the wood one) there’s also some metal (don’t get to close to the phyrexians)
kasmina is not focusing on lukka anymore now it’s Rowan and possibly will (still no hints at what she’s prepping for still most likely theory is the phyrexians) (oh she’s probably worried about Rowan like she was for lukka going pure evil.)
finally liliana...she's no longer evil (I’m talking permentaly)
Now, as she looked at herself in the mirror and adjusted her uniform, she found it hard to believe. Exams. Students. No more demons, no more dark plots, no more death. Her gaze shifted to her desk where her research journals lay open. "It seems this is where we finally part, old friend."
and also she decide to abort mission on resurrecting Gideon (that’s easily the right thing to do.)
and on top of this she even reveals her real name to the students at her next class
Also what's Lisette's deal? Why does she hate Liliana? Does she hate planeswalkers in general? Does she know about the war of the spark (somehow???)? Her pet project of reviving Gideon experimenting with forbidden magic? I was hoping we'd get something more precise before the story concluded because this seems like a major conflict for Liliana's stay in strixhaven? Seeing as Lisette is a dean?
Also baseless speculation of the day: Could Arcavios be Garruk's homeplane? Garruk was shown magic in his childhood to grow plants on a farm so apparently wherever Garruk lived even farmers used magic. Plus there was this communication device which also seems like a "everyday magic object". And Arcavios is known to be a plane where even peasants know magic.
It'd also be a nice setup for Garruk meeting Liliana.
I agree with most of what 5colors said. It seems that we are seeing standalone block stories not connected to any grand arch. And this is the second block seemingly ignoring everything that happened in Forsaken. Like the mini-group of Kaya, Rat, Teyo and (Lili)Ana never existed.
As for it being rushed, well this is becoming a tradition since Zendikar Rising. It eas kind of expected.

Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
Rushed. Too rushed. But given how quickly WotC wants to sell cards they cannot have a story linger too long, even if the world deserves a much longer and better story than this. A threat like Oriq should at least be as potent as the Equalists in Legend of Korra, not a pathetic group with a buffoon as head. If there's going to be a next block, I'd love to see the students lead an expedition to the Southern continent.
The twins don't interest me during this arc, I preferred the time when they interact with Garruk since he makes an interesting mentor for the royal siblings. Funny how he got along with Will better than Rowan, given Will is blue and Rowan is red, and now there's Liliana whom he MIGHT make peace with for the sake of the twins, that'd be a foster family dynamic I want to see, with a white ghost (Gideon) being the odd uncle.
The best part about this arc, aside from the wondrous plane itself, is Liliana coming to term with the death of Gideon. Rushed, but still a major character development for Lili as she now learned that she must live on for those who passed, remember them, rather than bringing them back to mortal lives. Maturity is when you choose not to abuse power.
Disfiguring Will is my biggest disappointment. Ice mages always getting screwed in mtg.
Gideon never returning
I love how Gideon's sacrifice as a parallel to Josu inspires Lilliana to do something constructive with her life, after she owns the loss and honors his memory by mentoring students. She is free of the past and influencing futures.
I thought Zimone story would have been better had it only focused on her finding her grandma. Was nice they had a black writer for Zimone and I'm guessing the present-tense writing is a result of that.

Zimone is, unfortunately, not likable. I understand they want to create a studious genius type, a proud independent female character, but she appeared overcompensated by the writer. She not only solved a puzzle of generations at the beginning of her second year (at 14!), she also easily overpowered the Oriq with that newfound spell i.e. it's as if she had time to practice it already. Zimone also presented a trigger-happy demeanor that feels more like arrogance than confidence. The dean might've been intrusive on Zimone's study and family business, but she did so out of care and legit concern, it's disheartening to see Zimone snapped at her just to demonstrate her "independence".
Intelligence comes from talent and training, wisdom from experience, it's dangerous to be smart but unwise. Both Zimone and her story feels too much like Captain Marvel, Rootha's self-doubt by comparison was that much more relatable.
And... Zimone looks so happy on cards, I did not expect to sense burden, anger, loneliness, misery en mass in her story.
Now, I suspect the writer was told to rush this part of the story given how plot crumbled towards mid-end, which contributes to its lack of logic (such as how the Dean and friends found Zimone and why Zimone lett the Oriq go). The whole story feels as if trying to isolate Zimone in both power, experience, and social relationship. She may be fine with it, since she said in the story that studying is pretty much her life, but one can't help but felt forced.
I do like the idea of Silverquil magic being expressed with sign language.

Final story unless we get a Kilian one.
I love the prose and structure, but the plot just gets weird towards the end. Also the mono-green dean has water powers.
I was quite looking forward to Zimone's story, the Oriq plot was teased by the cards. The execution was very poor and the end absurd.
Extus kidnaps her somewhere where she is easily found by the dean and friends? They let Extus go? What the heck? It simply does not make sense.
