I realize there is another thread, but it was started during rumors and speculation and getting responses from the new story line is getting buried pages into it. Should be a fresh start for discussion of the actual Story Articles for Kaldheim.
We have the first one
Episode 1 : Travelers https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-story/episode-1-travelers-2021-01-07
Seems Kaya has been hired to hunt Vorinclex. How he got to Kaldheim is not yet explained. However he seems to have made quite a home for himself in a cave that is covered in the metallic oil?

The Phyrexians have become eldritch in nature. He absorbed that omenspeaker to repair his arm? A twelve foot monster can just mesh into oil and disappear? What is happening?!

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."

Exactly things I was thinking about.

I really like Niko refreshing. Similar with Will and Rowan, sometimes it nice to have a characters who just wanna do good.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
A little harder to follow, but I really like how Starnheim is described.
This is how I felt about this week's story as well (although I found the Niko story from last week harder to follow). The writing was very evocative in parts, and let you feel the place kind of intuitively.
In the fight scene, it was a bit difficult to picture what was where at any given time, between portals opening everywhere and Niko on top of the serpent and the Valkyries circling around it... also, the cosmos serpent seems way smaller than I imagined it to be. Its whole body apparently fits into a fraction of single realm.
Why I like the story beats and the way the story is written in general, I really wish the overall story was longer to allow for more naturally-paced developments. While I can buy Niko being empathetic enough to want to help the people of Kaldheim, them heading into a fight with a world-destroying cosmos monster in chapter 2 still feels rushed.
Well, each realm is technically a universe and we have lots of flavour text of Koma digging tunnels, so I can buy it being smaller than the realms themselves though obviously still capable of destroying them.
The Phyrexians have become eldritch in nature. He absorbed that omenspeaker to repair his arm? A twelve foot monster can just mesh into oil and disappear? What is happening?!
Yeahhh... this felt really sloppy and unnecessary to what phyrexians are.
I mean, i understand its kind of a logical leap to go from flesh vats to flesh absorption, but it also pushes them to feel more like zerg, or the xenomorph from alien even, than a merging of flesh and machine. Old phyrexians were never really THAT aggressive in how they broke down organic components, being a lot more like the borg. I get it, its a logical step, i just dont like it.
Also a large component of bone is organic, and at the same time in the past if the organic material died so did the phyrexian. Vorinclex surviving, and in this way, just feels really over powered and alien given everything established already.
New phyrexians are more magical and Green has control over biology.
As i said repeatedly, i get it, i just dont like it. Mastery over biology should be more like how it was, through experimentation and scientific process. Less through lol he absorbed it and then magic happens!
Finally a longer story (or felt that way). Tyvar being too proud for Tibalt to fear gas was funny and in character and I do wonder what Tyvar will end up doing.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"

So it seems Tibalt just randomly showed up on Kaldheim one day looking to get into trouble. Heard stories of the sword, disguised himself, stole the sword, went about creating some Realms wide chaos and then just leaves. What a prankster
Well he also managed to get himself infected with Phyrexian oil as well so I assume he needs to come back and talk with Vorinclex again to finish the deal they made, (that was unnecessary because thats what Tibalt was going to do anyway.) But he probably won't because showing back up in front of the Monstrous Praetor is probably a bad idea and Tibalt would know that. Hmm. Just a weird setup. Guess the oil is walking around the multiverse again.
Maybe if we find out how and when Vorinclex got there and who hired Kaya to track and kill him some things might get cleared up.
It's just the same old trope though in a way, Some random plane just doing its own thing minding its business until some Planeswakers show up and start messing around with everything. I just want a plane to stand on its own instead of just being the backdrop of some passing by Walker slap fest

well I should remind about Fall of the Imposter which might mean vorinclex's deal might have been a bluff of the antidote and he causes the defeat of tibalt and not Kaya
Next the “how” in the lore about the legends in vorinclex it said after he arrived his organic matter was destroyed but not the phyrexian metal and bones (got lucky with the stag getting to curious) and if we go to this https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Planar_Bridge
however, can only transport non-organic or dead matter. Planeswalkers are the one exception.
it has to be the planar bridge based on how vorinclex entered kaldheim which means Tezzeret the guilty party (and reminder that he has connections with Jin-gitaxias and wanted the throne karn almost ended up getting and both Jin and elesh norn know about other planes)
and as for who hired Kaya a reddit user gave a interesting theory on who might have hired her
And that’s kasmina the theory is she’s Basicly a rip-off of urza and the cabal is something similar to what urza wanted the 9-titans for (tricked them to use them as kamikaze's against the phyrexians) like as if she’s prepping to fight new phyrexia
What I find interesting about the Tyvar and Kaya dynamic is they are basically two different eras of planeswalkers in terms of their mindsets and experiences. These eras I speak of are Pre-Mending (golden age) and Post-Mending (modern). And its not just them, its how Kaldheim is designed and how different it is from the rest of the multiverse.
Kaldheim is akin to pre-mending planes. Anyone can travel to a plane, planar portals are far more common. Which is why Tyvar doesn't know he ascended because he feels its just normal. Gods, mortals, planeswalkers, they can all travel to one of these various 'realms' aka planes. Its like the premending era when these sorts of stories were common.
The rest of the multiverse is a stark version of that, as only planeswalkers can travel to other worlds. Other people can only imagine from tales told what worlds beyond must be like and never get to see it in their life times.
And with both eras we see two different ideologies butting heads. Took a snippit from the latest story article to demonstrate what I mean.

I hate to tell you guys this just like zendikar rising only 5 chapters
But the important part
Vorinclex went back home he survived so confirmed Kaya's Onslaught was only the first encounter
any It’s in the epilogue
So sad Esika, God of the Tree and vorinclex fought and she lost she’s dying too and at the same time after the fight vorinclex finally starts talking
and here’s were the dark clouds and thunder part comes in... he produced the tyrite (obviously with a phyrexian touch to it) and drip a drop into it and he got a sample of Tyrite Sanctum and called he got it and is ready to come home.
then a red portal opened up esika knew it wasn't a omenpath and she heard a disturbing voice ever saying
"Welcome back, Vorinclex. We step ever closer to perfection."
whooooa did Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur set aside their differences because perfection is his thing and he hates vorinclex maybe how vorinclex arrived is Jin-Gitaxias cracked it on fixing memnarchs planar bridge which came with the cons of the planar bridge
Elesh Norn is supposedly the one manipulating Vorinclex. Jin may be seething but has to keep his mouth shut or Norn will suture him to a loxodon's ass.
As Eskia is the one who made the exilar, this also means the gods will be likely dying soon as well.

"So witnessed," said the Valkyrie, his commanding tones muffled through the glass. "We see all, Orhaft Stoneback. We will remember whether you kept your vow this day. Does your charge know the risks? I cannot promise their safe return. No living mortal has ever set foot in Starnheim." Is this the climax?

Today's story feels a bit like old Magic lore. And its pretty damn hilarious.

Where we learn that the valkyries cheated Ranar out of Starnheim.
